The Man in Blak 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2007 In terms of draft position, Gallery's the biggest bust, but Manning is probably the biggest overall disappointment in the draft by far, considering that the Giants traded Rivers and three draft picks to get him (which San Diego would later use to get Shawne Merriman and Nate Kaeding). Slayer 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2007 Aw shucks, yall. No no no Peyton is the "Aw shucks" southern pretty-boy... Eli is more of a punk frat boy.
naiwf 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2007 When you consider Big Ben, Rivers and Losman are all better QBs than Eli, a few others guys from that draft (Shawn Andrews, Fitzy, Hall, Tommie Harris, Steven Jackson, Will Smith & Vilma) have already made the Pro Bowl, and we gave SD Merriman (and a Pro Bowl kicker) with the additional pick(s) I don't see how taking Gallery would have been that much worse when you factor in that we already have the least disciplined, dumbest OL in the league. 2GOLD 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2007 Eli looked more along the lines of, "Huh? What happened? Did we win?" He seems to have permanent concussion face.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2007 At least Eli has panned out better than Ahmad Carroll.
randomguy 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2007 Why did anyone expect Eli to be good anyway? That is what I don't get. The same goes for Chris Simms. He wasn't even the best QB on his own team before being drafted! I guess your last name counts for an awful lot.
TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2007 It's not fair to Eli with all the Peyton comparisons. Eli isn't his clone, he's his brother. He can't and most likely won't ever be as good as Peyton.

Hawk 34 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2007 No, but they hold him to an unatainable standard because of his name. They hold him to an unattainable standard because he was a #1 draft pick who forced a team to trade away key draft picks for his services. Held another team hostage to get those demands. He has failed to live up to that and that's why he gets the treatment. If he was a low 1st round pick or didn't cause those waves in addition to the success that Ben, Palmer and now Rivers have managed, he would get a longer leash but playing the way he does in that market isn't a good thing. He earned his negative treatment.

Just to add to that if Plax wasn't on the Giants, Eli's numbers would be even worse than they are because he makes at least 10-20 circus catches a year that should have been picked off/dropped. In tonight's game alone Plax saved Eli a pick on the first play, drew a PI on what should have been another INT and made a spectacular grab on another horribly underthrown ball on that 2nd and 30 play. So Eli ended up 2 for 2 for 47 yards (and a 47 yard penalty) on those plays instead of 0 for 3 with 2 INTs. That adds up over the course of a season and even with Burress Eli's still not that much better than a marginal QB.

Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted January 8, 2007 People aren't saying he's bad because he's a Manning. He's bad with or without the name. True. But, there are unfair expectations because of the name. I'm 100% sure Eli wouldn't have been taken #1 if his last name was different. Rivers was better in every way. strummer 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2007 Eli is on his way to becoming your typical average run of the mill QB. He still had 24 TD's this year, which was I believe 4th in the NFL. He does turn the ball over way too much. He's like Jim Everett in the 80s/early 90s. A good game every once in while, and some horrid ones thrown in.
mike546 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2007 A lot of Eli's struggles the 2nd half of the year was the loss of Toomer. Honestly, the recivers couldn't get open for shit.

Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted January 8, 2007 That excuse only goes so far. That 3rd and 2 where if Eli ran, he would have easily got the 1st down. That's a play that shows the problem with him.
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2007 The only thing worse then watching the NFC Playoff games is being a fan of a team that DIDN'T make it to what is quite possibly the round of playoff games EVER....I mean really I am watching these games and thinking, "how in the hell was my team not good enough to play with these teams!?!" Actually, Eli can't handle pressure. He too often misses wide open receivers because there is a small sniff of pressure. He's not a rookie anymore, he should be over that problem by now. It looks like he is just going to be an average QB, maybe even a good stats QB who can't get the job done when the game is on the line type of QB *cough*Drew Bledsoe*
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2007 I learned from ESPN (OH NO!) that the last time and only time all 4 home teams won in the Wild Card round was the 2000 season playoffs when, of course..the RAVENS WON THE SUPER BOWL! Of course, the Ravens played a WC game that year (as did the Eagles)..but the Ravens didnt play one this year..so um..I dont think it matters any.
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2007 Nah, I won't go off on the Petrino to ATL thing. Hell, the guy has been sleazy in his dealings in the past so this is really like the inevitable finally coming true. I think a lot of people here in Louisville like the fact that his teams won a bunch of games, but think he's pretty much a dick. The bigger nightmare is the surefire exodus of Brohm, Bush, etc. in the wake of this.
