oAo ECW on Sci-Fi Thread -- 4/10/2007

Talk about being anti-climatic the whole Orton/HBK double pin debacle, Snitsky blowing his load stalking the dancers, and now CM Punk joining the New Breed. Nothing but poor execution this week.

HEY! Never QUESTION WWE!

Fear the Reaper cause it company is on its deathbed. WWE isn't smart enough to have a bull rope deathmatch with the cowbell in the middle!

I don't know, that execution just gave me the feeling that this alliance with the New Breed won't last long. No attack on an ECW Original, just some clapping, handshakes, and a group raise. Seemed fairly anti-climactic.

I'll probably be wrong but a repeat from the Sting/nWo moment at Uncensored 97 is what I'm seeing in my head.

Guess I'm the only one happy to see CM Punk join the New Breed.

We haven't seen a good stable with up and coming talent like the New Breed before.

I would have preferred CM Punk either stayed on his own, or dragged this decision out a little longer. The originals weren't even really recruiting him until this week really so it all felt so rushed. Also, the turn itself was anti-climatic because it didn't involve him really "turning" rather he merely made a decision.

Instead of just having a faction, they should just go all the way with this really and split the lockeroom up into either Originals or TNB. I guess you can leave Lashley/Snitsky out of it because they will seemingly be feuding over the belt for the time being. There really is no excuse for there to be an "ECW Originals" team, yet Balls Mahoney, Little Guido, and Stevie Richards are just kind of randomly there being ignored. Hell that way they could have made ONS III an "Originals vs. TNB" card headlined by RVD vs. CM Punk in a grudge match or something.

I'm very torn on this. Why not just do a no contest in that main event tonight if they are going to actually do Punk vs. RVD? Let's face it, Monty Brown in WWE/ECW terms has zero heat so jobbing to him only looks bad.

Such a puzzling "heel" turn by Punk. I don't exactly know if it was for real since he actually seemed more concerned about Sabu and RVD. Bizarre booking and yet I found it relatively fascinating and worked some gray area. That said, if he was forced to pick a side he HAD to be New Breed since he can't by definition be an ECW Original (he wasn't in the real ECW).

You know what I'd like to see on ECW just once? I wanna see RVD drop the carefree stoner act and show some real concern for his partners. In that character aspect he's not quite right for being the leader of the group...Dreamer can vocalize better what it means to be an ECW Original and seem more passionate. RVD is more like that daredevil secret weapon that the leader turns to when the chips are down. Just once I'd like to see RVD pull Sabu to the side and thank him for always having his back, regardless of whatever silly tormenting Van Dam did to him. For longtime viewers that would be a really great moment.

Actually, I'd be really down with this if the group just consisted of Punk/Burke/Monty. The others guys are extraneous and make the group too much of a hodge podge with no real unifying theme really (New breed is not good enough, b/c you can't picture a strict school teacher, hanging out with a goth guy, hanging out with a badasss, hanging out with a jock and straight edge guy). Just like you couldn't throw 4 random characters to be the "4 horseman" and have it be successful.

Punk/Burke could do some great SCS-type stuff with Monty as the muscle.

Whoever booked that turn is a fucking moron. Punk could've turned heel anytime in his career, but did it have to be tonight? How many babyfaces are on this show? The Originals who (besides RVD) are all jobbers. And the uncharismatic, overexposed Lashley. Punk is the only other one that people took seriously. It's also pretty retarded to do since this feud is about to be blown over anytime. Of course, it could always be a swerve, or Punk could always jump ship to Smackdown or Raw in the next few weeks. I wouldn't mind either of those. But seriously, being made a heel is a kiss of death right now. Not to mention there's only one belt and the champion is too busy feuding with guys from other brands.

Also, I hate how much Vince has become involved with matches. I used to look forward to his and Shane's once a year or so matches that were balls to the walls bloodfests. Now they're in Raw main events and several PPV's. That D-X vs McMahons feud was so horrible. Now we have to sit through it again with an incredibly boring wrestler.

WWE.com's write up of it makes me hopeful that we will get to see the "I'm straight and edge and that makes me better than you" obnoxious heel CM Punk.

The Chicago native was not very forthcoming in explaining his reasons for joining the New Breed, but promised that ECW would soon see the real CM Punk.

“I know some people aren’t going to be happy with my decision,” he said. “But, trust me, I have my reasons. Tonight is the first step in everyone finding out exactly who is CM Punk.”

The crowd was so dead for the ending

the crowd was pretty much dead from the show's beginning to the end.

Even for the Marcus/RVD match which was pretty good. I don't know if Marcus will ever be welcomed by the WWE crowd. He hasn't got a good crowd reaction yet which is more bad for him since he isn't a McMahon creation.

CM Punk looked like that nerdy High School kid would look if he were FINALLY accepted by his peers. I smell a fake-turn, and then maybe a real turn in time for ONS vs RVD.

Also... Leyla and Brooke are HOT. ECW was much better than RAW this week.

Personally, i'm hoping we get the 'i'm straight edge and i'm better than you' CM Punk. Also, if he goes that route, the Originals are perfect to play that off of.

I remember the New Blood group in WCW..funny cause most of them weren't as much new and up and coming..but anyway..

Its pretty bad though, since 3 guys are dead from that group (Candido, Awesome and Bam Bam Bigelo) and coincidently they were all big names in ECW.

My major problem with CM Punk's decision was that all he did was shake hands and smile alot GOD DAMN I HATE THE SMILING SHIT!!!!!!!!!!! How the hell is this a turn he did not attack anybody physically or verbally so whats the big deal ohhhh he gets to join the glee club, the football jock, and the cheerleader.....but what about Punk?!?!? What about Punk!?!? But seriously why didn't CM Punk cut a heel promo on RVD, Sabu, Sandman who was giving CM Punk a sermon about which beer taste better earlier on the show? It was ok great thats nice but I'm still waiting for something hardcore to happen where is the M. Night Shananahan twist where is the Saw twist?

His smile was so goofy looking that it perfectly looked like he was just kidding, and was going to turn on them any second, but that never happened.

Turning Punk heel without giving him the mic is ridiculous. Of course that might be the hook to tune in next week.

I've only watched ECW twice and even I might make an effort to tape it next week. So, were that the case, it worked on one person at least.

Thorn and Striker both are bad fits for The New Breed. I guess Striker isn't terribly bad as the sycophant tagalong, but Thorn's inclusion was ridiculous from the get-go. Mike Knox or even pre-jobber Test would have been better choices for the big man muscle. Punk/Burke/CorVon could do some damage together though. RVD and the Originals JOB SQUAD needs some new blood though - Mysterio or especially Chris Benoit would be ideal additions. Benoit vs Burke, Benoit vs CorVon, Benoit vs Punk, Benoit vs Lashley and eventually Benoit vs RVD and Benoit vs Sabu are all money matches in my opinion.

Is there any TNA ECW alum's soon to be out of work? Dudleys, Rhino, Raven? Raven would be cool as hell, even if he is a fat slob these days.

Maybe someone should tell him to see a dermatoligist.

Or to put down the needle. That image right there might be the most effective potential anti-steroid campaign imaginable, aside from showing someone on his deathbed.

CM Punk joining the Originals is one of those ideas that makes sense in terms of storyline, but I don't know about how it will be received. Let's face it, Punk is the lone new ECW guy that has gotten over. Is it really wise to turn him heel? Yet his character seems more at odds with the Originals, given their various vices and what not.

What exactly can be the blowoff to this entire feud? With Dusty helping to book ECW I'm hoping for Wargames.

Yep, the hair totally changed her look. She looked so much better the way she was before. It really set her apart from all of the other divas, and now she just looks like any random diva. I'm sure that was the reason for the change though. Meh.
