Sabu fired from WWE

Recommended Posts

Former ECW World champion Sabu is gone from World Wrestling Entertainment, according to several sources. Sabu arrived hours late for tonight's scheduled Smackdown/ECW taping in Baltimore, Maryland and didn't even have his ring gear with him. I am told he was sent home from the taping and has been/will be released by the company.

Sabu, one of the trendsetters of the original Extreme Championship Wrestling, signed with WWE a year ago as part of the re-launched ECW brand. Sabu received a big push early in the brand's run, including challenging ECW champion Big Show at last year's Summerslam PPV before being deemphasized as a focal point.

What an idiot. At this stage in his career Sabu should have been doing everything in his power to draw a steady paycheck. He almosst seemed intent on screwing this up from the beginning. Well, time to warm up the old camper again.

As long as he can work any kind of a match he will always be able to get work at whatever indy company is holding an even in the ECW Arena. I would be suprised if TNA has any interest in him at all.

Tell Sabu to fuck Sabu.

This always amuses me.

WWE issued a statement on their website confirmed the release of former ECW World champion Sabu, something which has been almost expected to happen for weeks now. According to one source, the plan for tonight’s ECW TV was for Sabu to put over Kevin Thorn. Sabu balked at the idea, claiming he had a bad neck injury.

There are some in the locker room who believe that Sabu arrived late to the tapings on purpose this week, expecting to be sent home since he’s made rumblings that he is unhappy working for the company. This isn’t the first time he has arrived to events without his gear either, including a TV taping a few weeks back where he had to wear Daivari’s gear instead.

There are rumors that there was some sort of incident involving Sabu which took place over the weekend in Cincinnati, but those are just rumors for now and nothing has been confirmed about the alleged incident.

Well it seems like Sabu didn't give a shit anyway....I am sure he will find his way onto indy cards across American and Japan without a problem.

Yeah, he's still around. Not sure why he hasn't been appearing with the Originals.

They always have good ol' Stevie Richards, too.

I could see TNA taking him back in a package deal w/ Van Dam in the summer or something. I dont recall he burnt bridges with TNA all that bad, doing a job to Samoa Joe I believe as his blowoff there, and he was even injured before that match.

Did Justin give up his Target job? He could be an original. Or Guido, he doesn't seem to be busy.

And really, I think those who know the actions of Sabu are more shocked he lasted this long before getting fired.

Quite honestly I've been wanting RVD to do something like this for a while now. Not the part about showing up late with no ring gear, but when they say "We want you to put over Kevin Thorn tonight" he should say "Uh...go to hell."

I repeat what I said in previous threads. A wrestler that isn't long for the company is not obligated to put a bunch of guys over. If he's got a belt, job it and leave. But if I'm Sabu and my contract was up--or I knew I was close to being released--and I didn't have a belt, I wouldn't go out there and job to people in nothing matches. It won't get the guy over and all it would do is hurt my career.

I did wonder why none of the other Originals were on ECW tonight besides RVD. Expect Sandman to be the next in line to be fired or released.

No, RVD should say "Yes, sir" and then do his freakin' job. Part of being a professional wrestler is first and foremost, being a professional. Whatever the heck Sabu did over the past few days doesn't even remotely qualify as such. I trust RVD will hold to a higher standard.

That sucks for Sabu....I mean it's his fault and all but it sucks for him on a personnal level. Hopefully TNA will pick him back up as it seemed he put a lot of effort into his matches when he was with TNA. I can't blame Sabu for wanting to leave WWE though, I mean lets face it, WWE and Vince would have never gave Sabu the right kind of push Sabu needed to get over with the fans. Even before the whole weed thing last year, it was rumored that WWE was souring on Sabu. Hopefully Sabu will get back on his feet though and work the indy's and TNA. I would love to see him in Oregon.

As I said, RVD shouldn't show up hours late with no ring gear. Yes, that is quite bizarre and unprofessional and Sabu is in the wrong for doing it.

Van Dam owed them 2 jobs last year when he got caught with the weed: One to Edge, and one to Big Show. If you get suspended or are leaving the company, you owe it to them to job a belt. Nobody owes a company months of constant jobbing, because it does nothing to get those guys over and only serves to bury the guy that is leaving. This isn't 25 years ago where guys could job out in one territory and show up elsewhere and be totally fresh since those fans wouldn't have seen the jobbing.

For instance, take a look at the way Taz and the Dudleys left ECW in 1999. The Dudleys ended up sorta putting over Raven and Dreamer and were well protected, then left for the WWF. They went on to further title wins and classic TLC matches. Taz on the other hand jobbed the ECW title to Mike Awesome and then spent the next 2-3 months jobbing out to Awesome, Sabu, and RVD in heatless matches since everyone knew Taz was leaving. Taz went from unbeatable macho champion to a jobber pussy very quickly and in my opinion his career never totally recovered. Did his jobbing get anyone over? Not really.

Let's say RVD is kept reasonably strong and then they save one final job out to CM Punk at ONS. Give it 20 minutes or so and treat it like a big deal. Give Van Dam a decent send off and let him proclaim Punk the future of ECW. In that scenario it doesn't bury RVD on the way out, and it actually gets Punk over. But let's say RVD jobs hard next week to Snitsky, then to Thorn the next week, then to Striker, and then puts Punk over at ONS. It gets no one over and just buries RVD on the way out.

Sabu was a plank here. It was obvious he'd be gone pretty soon after ONS with RVD, but think of the cash he's lost now. I reckon he would be on somewhere between $150000-$200000 a year, and by losing a month's pay he's cost himself around $15k. $15k is a whole lot of indy dates he's supposedly saved for himself by not jobbing to Thorn.

I love how some people are still thinking One Night Stand has any association to ECW anymore. It's just another WWE PPV now.
