Cutting Edge segment with Vince McMahon opened. Vince was still acting crazy. Funny flub by Edge where he mentioned it being Thursday (supposed to say Friday). They announced Edge vs. Batista for the PPV. In the end, Edge gave Vince his belt.

 

Mark Henry b Boogeyman with the world's strongest slam. Post-match saw Henry destroy Little Boogeman with a big splash. Seemed as if they were writing Little Boogeyman out.

 

Vickie Guerrero made the next few matches. Vince was backstage with Vickie, Teddy Long and Kristal. Vince was still acting strange. He put over Vickie, said Kristal was a problem and told Teddy he was watching him

 

Jimmy Yang & Paul London & Brian Kendrick b Chavo Guerrero & Jamie Noble & Daivari when Kidman pinned Chavo

 

Edge b Chris Benoit with a spear. Good back-and-forth match. Benoit came close to winning several times.

 

Jillian and Ashley brawled backstage. As Vince was talking to Matt Hardy, Ashley accidentally spilled coffee on Vince. Vince then suspended Ashley

 

Deuce & Domino b Matt Hardy in a tornado handicap match when Deuce got the pin after a running kick to the face

 

Batista b MVP via DQ when Edge interfereed and speared Batista

Perhaps Batista gets drafted to RAW and this will be his last shot at Edge? Either way, who else are they going to pair off with Edge right now? Finlay would be fun, but not in the main event slot.

Why is this crazy Vince shit polluting the virgin territory of Smackdown now? SD has been the last refuge for sane booking over the past few months and now this trash is on the show.

 

I will agree that it's beyond time to move past Batista getting title shots. He lost to Edge in a regular match fairly cleanly (was there even a pull of tights?) and then lost in the cage match too. Since they aren't going to put the belt on Batista why is he constantly getting these title shots? Is it to bury him?

 

If anything I thought Vengeance being the Night of Champions implied another Champion of Champions match with all 3 guys in the same match.

I think its meant to get Edge over as opposed to burying Batista.

I can see how giving Edge a cage match win over Batista is a nice push, but to do this same match on 3 straight PPVs? Especially given that Batista is likely to come up short again. Why not throw a couple other guys in there and make it a 4 way or something a bit different, get some guys on a PPV. Make it Edge/Batista/Finlay/Benoit and then you have something.

Ah well, at least they made up for it with Edge and Batista's ongoing feud. What is it with the lack of actual title divisions now? Every 'division' seems to consist of the champion and a chosen challenger for X amount of months, then the identity of champion and challenger change. NOBODY else can be in contention during that period of time. See Batista/Taker. Edge/Batista. Benoit/MVP. Londrick/D&D. Chavo/Yang. Lashley/McMahon. Marella/Masters. Melina/Candice. It's just boring booking.

 

The only actual division is amazingly enough the World Tag Team Title division, by virtue of The WGTT getting involved with Hardys and Cade/Murdoch.

People dig Hornswoggle. Use him to get the crowd behind Finlay, then have Finlay cut promos about kicking ass (people love an ass-kicker).

I think Finlay/Edge would work. Edge would be the cowardly, smart heel while Finlay would just want to fight him. Give them a main event program, Edge goes over, moves on to next thing.

Finlay will never be a legit main eventer in my mind, unless it is in a fatal 4-way or such. He's good at the role he is now, an upper midcarder role.

They tried to turn Finlay face before and it bombed. The fact everybody seems to think he needs Little Bastard to get the crowd behind Finlay should tell you all something.

When did they try and turn Finlay? They teased it a couple times last fall when Finlay was challenging for the World Title in the four-way match, but that's about it. It didn't seem like an elaborate turn, but rather a heel wanting to win the World Title.

It was against Regal, I'm pretty sure. Maybe when Lashley was pulled from the three-way, whatever PPV that was, that time period.

I'd like to see an Edge vs Finlay program as well, I think it would be really solid. However I don't think many fans accept Finlay as a legit contender either, so it might hurt the heat for the matches.
