Man i wish there was some way I could've been there. JV straight up did Milwaukee dirty tonight. Glad the Padres passed on him in the draft.

Fuckin' ridiculous. Lidge has like...a 0.72 ERA since the second week of May. He got his first save opportunity since Opening Day and he proceeded to give up a homerun to Mark Kotsay and then a ground-rule double to the next batter, Mark Ellis. There's got to be voodoo involved.

John Maine gives up three home runs on three straight pitches, one to Hong Chih fucking Kuo. Unbelievable.

The mere fact that the Dodgers were able to hit 3 HR's in a game is even more astounding.

I guess Michael Barrett struck again. Jacque Jones finally makes a decent throw and Barrett just out and drops it to let the go-ahead run score. I can't remember the last time the Cubs won an extra innings game that went past the 11th frame.

And just to make things fun, the Cubs load 'em up again in the 13th and can't score.

Michael Barrett really needs to go. He's never been known as a defensive specialist or anything, but his mediocre hitting thus far makes his boneheaded play on the basepaths and behind the plate hard to overlook.

Hot damn are the Mets awful right now. Can't even blame it on injury anymore since Alou is the only name that's out. Though the Braves have thankfully been floundering as well and are hanging around at 2.0 back, Philadelphia's finally got their shit together and is only 3.0 back now.

I'm hoping this is just a vicious cold streak and not something catching up to the team. Just have to wait and see, I guess...

The Boston Red Sox have asked MLB to remove David Ortiz from the player's ballot for the All-Star game and replace him with Kevin Youkilis. The team asked Ortiz for his permission and he was cool with it. Ortiz is already probably in from fan voting, but it's a nice gesture anyways. Could be weird to see one team sending two 1Bs to the All-Star game.

It's funny that the Yankees had to go 'on a roll' to get back to .500 and get to 9.5 games of the division leading Sawx.

That streak's something to be proud of. BP's Playoff Odds report now has them at a 4.46 percent chance of winning the division. But it gets even better... if we PECOTA adjust it they are at 4.89%. Sizzling indeed.

That was a 4.89% chance to win the division, not the wild card.

I picked them to win the division at the start of the year and I still think they'll probably end up in the playoffs. Detroit's a little better than I thought they'd be, so there will be some competition for that spot. Even as a Sox fan, I never bought into the whole Yankees suck angle. I just thought it was a run of bad luck that they'd get out of soon enough.... and well, look what's happened.

I have a question for you cheech, are you a transplanted New Englander out west, or did you latch on to Boston on your own?

It's a long story, but I'm a west coaster who sort of got sucked in while I was younger because there was no team even reasonably close to me from a geographic standpoint. Things got amped up when I had a couple of Boston transplants for roommates during college. I've spent a little bit of time out there the last few years and almost moved but I'm sort of tied to a job out here.

I appreciate all that Timlin has done for the Red Sox but if he doesn't show improvement over the next few days and they don't get a fair offer for Romero then I'd rather see Romero on the team and Timlin DFA. Three lefties in the pen isn't a bad thing.

I also wonder when we'll see Joel Piniero traded since he's obviously not lasting when Lester is finally called up.

Piniero won't get traded. No team is going to offer much when they can get him on the cheap in a couple weeks when he gets DFA'd.

I don't know about Timlin/Romero. They both suck. At least with Timlin, there is a slight chance that he is still working back from injury and can regain some form down the stretch. I just don't want him thrown into any hi-lev spots until then.

Jim Hendry's knack for taking a commodity and stripping it of any of its value has struck again. Matt Murton's been sent to the minors. I'm not sure if he'll ever be the 25-30 homer guy some pegged him for and while he has been slumping, I'd say it's likely due to getting sporadic at-bats while guys like Angel Pagan and Jacque Jones get more playing time.

I understand Hendry felt the need to go sign Floyd, but he's created a mess in the outfield with Soriano really the only one producing. None of the other guys are superstars, but you can't help but think several of them are not benefiting from the platoon situation. In the end, I imagine Murton will be shipped off for nothing and flourish on a team that actually uses him.

I see no reason why Matt Murton can't be a starting outfielder for a number of teams. The Cubs have really mishandled him so far.

I advocated a starting outfield of Murton-Pie-Soriano in spring training. I don't watch many Cubs games, but that's got to be better than whatever they are running out there now, isn't it?

Pagan was brought up a few weeks back and thanks to a hot start and over-valued speed, he's seen a fair number of starts. Floyd hasn't been too bad and has served more as a big bat off the bench. The real problem in all of this is Jacque Jones. He's looked better in center than in right, but with Pie being the everday centerfielder now, he's back to platooning in right. Jacque has never been a real great hitter, but he's been downright awful this year. His defense hasn't improved in right, as he still makes blooper-like throws. The real concern is the disappearance of his power. Regardless of poor OBP and defense, his power made up some of that. But with only two longballs this year, he's looked like an even worse signing than he did a year ago. But it's probably that bad contract that has prevented him from being the odd-man out.

I don't think he will get DFA'd since they seem more than content with not rushing Lester. If they can get something for Piniero though then they'll of course bring Lester up sooner.

My main concerns though are CF and SS like any other Sox fan. Didn't like the Lugo signing when it happened and I still don't. I'm hoping they can find somewhere to ship him and bring back Alex Gonzales since the Reds are out of it. Hopefully Ellsbury will be ready by August too so they can throw Crisp on the bench to be the new Dave Roberts.
