Scroby 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2007 Scott Armstrong isn't doing a good job as referee, just too slow to the count and oversells the shoulder check, taking away from the excitement of the pin. So you think Armstrong wasn't doing a good job as a Ref because he was doing his job of doing the shoulder check? Did you not watch any of the old NWA days, there refs did that all the time. Ref's should check the shoulders most of the time as it makes the matches seem more realistic. Armstrong did his job as a ref correctly the entire match. Scroby 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2007 HISTORY IS MADE! A match has one move. And they blew it. Boogeyman is just that fabulous. I couldn't help but just laugh when I saw him prove to be incapable of lifting the guy up and slamming him down on the first try. That wasn't boogie's fault, that was the jobber who just lost his chances of EVER having a job with the WWE because he didn't jump up and take the bump and fucking up the ONLY move in the match then throwing his arms in air like he was saying "what now?" Scroby 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2007 Throw up the X ref, tommy got 'real' hurt They've done that before to try to look "shoot"ish. But with the odd finish, Tommy may have taken the early pin b/c he was, in fact, legit hurt (assuming the new reffing policy is in effect). Is there a new sign for when they're legit hurt? Yeah, it's the X symbol with...HEY HE'S FUCKING HURT! No there is no new sign for Ref's to let someone know there's a real injury in the ring and the match can't continue. It all depends on how serious the injury is. If it's something that isn't a major injury, a ref may not throw up the X sign and the match might continue with a quick finish. If it's a major injury, you better bet your ass I'm thorwing up the X sign a few fucking times, telling the other worker to stop he or she is not moving and is really hurt and we get help as soon as possible. There is no new Ref sign, where that came from I have no clue.
Aero 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2007 I'm glad Punk-Benoit will happen, but too bad it's happening on a stacked card with nine matches. Not that I see stuff like the Women's title, Cruiser title, or SD Tag Titles (whatever it ends up being) going too long to begin with, but god knows Vince's death needs to be recapped in between matches. He's been a face for like 3 years now But ECW has way too many heels right now, there is no point in turning either one of them. Sure it would make for a better fued, but who wants to watch a TV show where there is 1 major face, and every other face on the show is a glorified jobber? Does anyone else think that CM Punk has underperformed since coming to WWE? I haven't seen his ROH stuff but when he was coming in all I was hearing was how he was one of the top workers in America full stop. I mean he's good, but he ahsn't had any classic matches in a year in WWE, and in his match against Burke at JD I thought Burke looked better.

His stuff in ROH was amazing, but it was a different pace, and you can do a lot more in a match. Right now it looks like Punk is trying to find a good mix between what he can do, and what WWE management want to see him do in a match. I think his match with Benoit on Sunday should really help display what he can do in the ring.

Guest jonnymack Report post Posted June 20, 2007 I only caught the last match but I have to say I enjoyed it quite a bit. Does anyone know if Punk got hurt from being dropped on his head like that? Either way that was a great finish to the show and it has managed to get me excited about the ECW title picture which is something I would have never said when Lashley was running with the belt. mysterious_w 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2007 Aside from Punk, what about the Dreamer ankle injury? My amuteur lip-reading skills seem to suggets he said something like "It's broke" to the ref after the match.
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2007 "So you think Armstrong wasn't doing a good job as a Ref because he was doing his job of doing the shoulder check?" Not at all, Scroby. I like the shoulder check, but as I stated in my original post, I think he was kind of over-selling it. A roll-up is a roll-up for a reason, to add drama to an "out of nowhere" sudden near fall. It loses the drama when the referee SLOWLY gets into position, then SLOWLY checks the shoulders, and then starts a count. If Armstrong was quicker, and couuld check the shoulders quicker, he would be a better referee. "Did you not watch any of the old NWA days, there refs did that all the time." Comparing classic NWA referees to Scott Armstrong is like comparing apples to diseased grapefruits.
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2007 "Does anyone else think that CM Punk has underperformed since coming to WWE?" Being booked in 5-minute matches every week with unover guys like Matt Striker, Mike Knox, Stevie Richards, and Nunzio will have that effect. Punk will start breaking out, his Judgment Day match with Burke was decent, if only a little heatless due to the guys not really getting the exposure they're getting now. Punk's not as over as Benoit on ECW, but he keeps getting more popular. Hope they have a great match on Sunday. At least 15 minutes please. _________ BTW, Punk has beaten both Cor Von and Burke now in "big match" situations, so if Punk is given the title belt, who becomes his big challenger? I have to think Benoit goes over Sunday and drops the belt to Punk at SummerSlam or something. Babyface champion CM Punk would kinda suck, too.

That's the thing, he got almost 17 minutes at JD, that should have been his time to really impress me and everyone else with what he can do. He was given the stage, the time, and a very capable worker in Elijah Burke, yet he didn't do anything out of the ordinary.
Taker666 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2007 I think this is the first time well... ever that I look forward to a ECW Title match. although IMO they should of waited to do Benoit/Punk somewhere down the road but shit, I ain't complaining. this match is gonna be sweet. veseo 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2007 Will this be a way to turn Benoit heel? I'd actually prefer heel Punk... I'm getting more and more irritated with the mainstream look Punk is receiving from the creative, starting with totally dropping Anaconda vice and moving to the finisher with the easy-to-remember name - GTS. GTS reminds me of FU

I'm getting more and more irritated with the mainstream look Punk is receiving from the creative, starting with totally dropping Anaconda vice and moving to the finisher with the easy-to-remember name - GTS. GTS reminds me of FU It's not a WWE coined name. That's been the name of the move for quite some time. I never liked the Vice, either version from Punk. Obviously, his best finisher was the plunge but that isn't coming back anytime soon. GTS is a good finisher. The main thing, aside from that brief stint with The New Breed, Punk has hardly shown much stuff with promos and skits. Obviously, his persona is that of the wrestling hybrid but his greatest talent is his promo and his heel work. Although he is good at the babyface stuff, he's far greater as a heel. USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted June 21, 2007 I had a discussion with Alkeiper about Punk. He seems to think that because of his size (which he compared to 1-2-3 Kid no less) he wouldn't ever be taken seriously as a major heel in WWE. I'd agree with you though that he is much better as a heel than a face. He has a natural cockiness when he carries himself.

I'd agree with you though that he is much better as a heel than a face. He has a natural cockiness when he carries himself. Isn't he pretty similar to the build of Edge (yeah, Edge does have 4 inches on Punk) or that of a young, heelish Shawn Michaels? You don't need to be the biggest guy to be an effective heel, you just need that X factor that the main stream audience would want to boo. If Punk can start cutting the "I'm striagh Edge so I'm better then you" promos, that should get him som pretty good heat. Hell, even a quick segment with Austin having a beer could work miracles for him.
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted June 21, 2007 I can already see the booking on Sunday for this match. Benoit will win a tough contest and then extend his hand to Punk again, but this time Punk refuses and walks away. This can either be used to turn him heel, or maybe to put him into more of a tweener category. As in he still hates the New Breed heels, but also has problems with Benoit. TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe 0 Report post Posted June 21, 2007 Especially since over the course of that year, schmucks from Raw and SmackDown were randomly brought in to challenge for the ECW title as Punk toiled in the midcard, while there wasn't even a midcard title to gun for. This stuff should write itself.

Human Fly 0 Report post Posted June 21, 2007 And if CM Punk turns heel after the match who is going to be in the upper card as a face besides Benoit? You already have Burke, Cor Von and Nitro in the upper card. Thorn will be breaking through soon and then you have the Miz as well. If you add CM Punk into the heel mix are you expecting The Boogeyman to carry the load as the # 2 face? I think Benoit wins on Sunday. They do the mutual respect thing and then go their seperate ways for a few months before Punk eventually takes the title from Benoit. Young up and comer CM Punk chasing future HOF veteran Chris Benoit for the title works as a storyline. HOF veteran chasing young up and comer does not. Human Fly 0 Report post Posted June 21, 2007 The problem with that is while it can and will obviously work, Benoit JUST had that kind of storyline with MVP over the US title. Good point. They could have Benoit win and then lose it to either Burke/Cor Von/Nitro in a few months who could then lose it to Punk. Punk and Benoit would then have a built in program of Benoit holding the edge over Punk and trying to reclaim the title and Punk trying to overcome his final hurdle.
