Guest Hasbeen2 Posted June 28, 2007 Report Posted June 28, 2007 I hate that chant, I think it's very disrespectful but at least it can give a promoter the message something not's working. I think the first time I remember it was an AWA TV show in around 1986, I want to say it was Brad Rheingans, think Kurt Angle with no charisma and you have Rheingans. Instead of not even showing the match or muffling the chants, they went ahead and showed it with the crowd chanting very loud, and the announcers finally had to acknowledge them, basically saying the fans were ignorant for not appreciating good, "Scientific" wrestling.
Dobbs 3K Posted June 28, 2007 Report Posted June 28, 2007 I can't remember the first time I heard it. Probably sometime in the mid '90s on Monday Night RAW, or something like that. Personally, I think it's fine if the fans chant it. The fans need to do eveyrthing they can to tell a promoter when something sucks.
Jericholic82 Posted June 28, 2007 Report Posted June 28, 2007 hard to remember specific, but I do at the moment recall a loud boring chant durin Bossman vs Mideon at Valentines Day Massacre 1999
AntiLeaf33 Posted June 30, 2007 Report Posted June 30, 2007 I wouldn't consider the boring chant to be disrespectful. As a fan you are paying your hard earned money to be entertained. The encourage you to cheer your favorite stars and boo the ones you don't like. If they are failing to entertain you then its your right as a fan to voice your opinon.
Guest Hasbeen2 Posted June 30, 2007 Report Posted June 30, 2007 I'd rather the fans just be silent though, that sends the message just as well. Sometimes it's not the talent's fault for what goes on in the ring, it might be more to how they're ordered to lay out the match and their character's lack of "overness", more to them not being good enough. Or the fans might just be dumbasses out there to see divas and DX. Chanting that can ruin a whole segment of a show.
mysterious_w Posted June 30, 2007 Report Posted June 30, 2007 "boring" chants are, well, boring. It is much more entertaining when fans chant "This shit sucks" or something relating to fellatio.
AntiLeaf33 Posted July 1, 2007 Report Posted July 1, 2007 "boring" chants are, well, boring. It is much more entertaining when fans chant "This shit sucks" or something relating to fellatio. "You suck dick!" "Your mother taught me how!!!" Gotta love the fellatio chants!
Jingus Posted July 1, 2007 Report Posted July 1, 2007 Even though they take a lot of shit, I think the ROH crowds do have the best chants. I mean, how the fuck do you get a thousand different people to somehow magically agree on a spoken rhythym for a phrase as complicated as "You're gonna get your fuckin' head kicked in!" and turn it into a chant?
mysterious_w Posted July 1, 2007 Report Posted July 1, 2007 I prefer the ECW arena crowds. They picked up on absolutely everything, and were much more vicious. ROH crowds chanting smarky shit like "5 star match" and "Match of the year" pisses me off.
Dobbs 3K Posted July 2, 2007 Report Posted July 2, 2007 ROH crowds chanting smarky shit like "5 star match" and "Match of the year" pisses me off. Agreed. How pretentious can you get?
Nate Posted July 2, 2007 Report Posted July 2, 2007 i'd say about 1998 for me, really when Russo started booking
TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe Posted July 2, 2007 Report Posted July 2, 2007 Love the boring chant. Dark matches with no-names always get it.
CheesalaIsGood Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 Late 95 into 96 I remember a few boring chants. Many of those In Your House PPVs had very little to offer just on paper alone. You could almost kind of tell that much of the ECW audience were disgruntled WWF fans as they would really try to like what was going on in 95 and 96 but just couldn't swallow it. Silence is one thing but when the PAYING crowd starts to revolt you know you have a problem. So you get shit like the crowd crushing a babyface ala Sid/HBK in MSG. I never blamed the workers so much as it was really just Vince going kicking and screaming into the attitude era, finally abandoning all the stupid gimmicks like Friar Ferguson, Dumpster Droce, etc. This is why I think that things TODAY aren't really as bad as some might have you think it. Sure the crowd turns on Cena from time to time but that seems to be isolated to certain areas and certain demographics. Least they aren't sitting on their hands these days or yelling boring. I haven't heard one of those chants in quite some time.
TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 Last summer I went to a SmackDown Taping/Live Raw show at the Meadowlands. Fans chanted all throughout the SD! taping "We want Raw."
CBright7831 Posted July 8, 2007 Report Posted July 8, 2007 I remember HHH/Cactus Jack @ RR 00 got the MSG crowd chanting it for awhile, and then they both turned it up and produced the best match of 2000.
Guest Lee_The_Pea Posted July 18, 2007 Report Posted July 18, 2007 Has to be the Jake The Snake , Rick Rude match at Wrestlemania 4 for me. I don't like the chant because I do like the long matches and I love build up in a match.
UseTheSledgehammerUh Posted July 18, 2007 Report Posted July 18, 2007 "I remember HHH/Cactus Jack @ RR 00 got the MSG crowd chanting it for awhile, and then they both turned it up and produced the best match of 2000." Jerry Lawler: "Listen to these fans! They're chanting 'Foley' !"
Black Lushus Posted July 18, 2007 Report Posted July 18, 2007 "boring" chants are, well, boring. It is much more entertaining when fans chant "This shit sucks" or something relating to fellatio. "You suck dick!" "Your mother taught me how!!!" Gotta love the fellatio chants! yeah...but then you'd be admitting it! I know in the 80s there have been times where at least one or two guys in the crowd will shout "BORING!" loud enough for the mics to pick up...just can't think of the exact cases at this moment.
Molotov The Bear Posted July 18, 2007 Report Posted July 18, 2007 The first 'boring' chant I really remember was during the Mark Henry/Viscera match from...whatever ppv it was. Just awful, awful stuff and the crowd let them know, loudly.
