Well the Red Sox sure look like geniuses for the Gagne move.

Honestly I didn't really understand that move. Gagne is a shell of his former self and Gabbard looked pretty decent.

Cleveland and Detroit are pretty much telling Minnesota you're welcome to make this a three team race. The Twins seem content finishing third.

Four team race. The gap between Minnesota and Chicago White Sox is smaller than the one between Minnesota and Cleveland.

And I was being crucified by my own fellow Red Sox fans for asking why we needed another closer.

I'm pretty sure Gagne was brought in, beside being another good arm in the pen, was to allow the Sox to give Okajima more rest as I'm pretty sure hes reaching innings pitched he's never reached before.

I'm positive the Phillies are winning the Wild Card or the East this year. A lot of bad things, as usual, have happened to the team, but there's been way too many surprise positive happenings for this to not be the year.

He's only pitched three innings! That's not just a small sample size, it's a miniscule sample. Gagne is not a shell of his former self. He was lights out all year long in the best hitter's park in the American League. I'll admit that he hasn't looked good in Boston so far, but I'm not even close to giving up hope yet.

Papelbon hasn't made it through a full season as a closer. Okajima is going to shatter his career high in innings pitched. MDC has been inconsistent his entire career. Donnelly has to have Tommy John surgery. This team needed another insurance arm for a postseason run. Gagne was the best reliever on the market and they got him for practically nothing. It was an excellent move to make at the time whether it works out or not.

I also think the Cubs will win the Central Division.

Baseball America released their Prospect Pulse Positional Rankings this week. You have to have a subscription for the whole article, but I have it. If anyone wants to know where certain players were ranked, just let me know. Real quick, here are the top prospects at every position:

Is Phil Humber on the list?

Humber did not make the list.

As for other Mets, Deolis Guerra was ranked 4th among right handed starting pitchers. Fernando Martinez was 4th among corner outfielders. Francisco Pena was the ninth rated catcher.

I'm slowly beginning to hate this Dodger team. How bad they are is just unbelievable. If you can't hit, take pitches to get on base. Instead, Looper cruised through 6 and only threw 85 pitches. See, I wouldn't be so mad if Looper was striking them out, as it would show his stuff is practically touchable for the Dodgers. But the Dodgers are getting bat to ball and doing SQUAT. Only 4 ground ball outs. Their plate approach is all screwed up. It's flyball after flyball after flyball. And then when they DO get someone on base, they leave them there. 10 men left on. It's fucking pathetic. 5 strikeouts, 4 groundball outs, and 10 men left on.

Dodger Baseball.

Nah, it's just two teams. Minnesota doesn't have the pitching to make a comeback, and the Sox need to go 27-20 just to finish at .500, not to mention passing three teams. It's just Detroit and Cleveland, realistically.

Yeah man. He's actually brought out the best in Hawk. I wouldn't worry about him going to the Sox full-time, since he doesn't want to travel and he's pretty committed to getting in on the new Cubs ownership group. They really need to make some broadcasting changes, though, but I bet if they do, the guy they turf will be Chris Singleton, who is the least offensive of the four.

As I said last week, what can Rich Dubee possibly say to Adam Eaton besides, "why do you suck so much?"

I guess he could have said "Hey you suck, but just don't give up back to back triples ok? Too much to ask?"

Fun Facts about Adam Eaton.

*Eaton's ERA now stands at 6.36, worst in the National League. The next worst is David Wells, who at 5.54 is nearly a full run better.

*Wells' performance has earned him a designation for assignment, leaving him contemplating retirement. Eaton is owed $24 million through 2009.

*Eaton needs just six home runs to match his career high, which took him 66.3 more innings to do so.

*Eaton managed not to walk any hitters, leaving him still 11 short of his career high for walks.

*Eaton's ERA is the fourth worst this decade, behind only Eric Milton (2005) and two seasons of Jose Lima.

*The Phillies traded away Bobby Abreu for "payroll flexibility." The Phils then signed Adam Eaton at $8 million a season. Just saying.

Speaking of David Wells, I wonder if the Cubs should take a flier on him and try him in the bullpen, just to see if he has anything left in the tank. It depends on what the financial responsibilities would be, based on his San Diego contract. He'd have to be super-cheap. Come on. Might as well. We blew more money on Wade Miller, and what'd he pitch, like three games?

I know, my point was if Minnesota was still in the race, you'd have to consider the Sox too. I know it's just Indians and Tigers at this point. As for Wells, he retired, so I can't see him going anywhere since the only reason he went to San Diego was to retire in his hometown.

The Jays can't hit for shit on the road. They could be right in the wild card race if they could scratch out more than 4 hits against the Royals.
