Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted September 19, 2007 The guy got tasered because he wouldn't shut up, and apparently wouldn't stop moving. I don't get where all the controversy is. Neither do I. I mean this is Iran or some Old Testemant stronghold we're talking about, right? The only problem here is that they didn't bust some skulls, too. Wrong boy, this is America! We're a New Testament stronghold.

BX 0 Report post Posted September 19, 2007 It's too bad this took place in a political context. Otherwise, I'd be 100% supportive of this guy getting tazed a few times.
Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted September 19, 2007 Yeah, this guy shouldn't have gotten roughed up at all, obviously, snuffbox...since he was making a very serious and intellectual political statement. There wasn't any antagonism on his part at all, no sir.
Ripper 0 Report post Posted September 19, 2007 So we are now saying we are in Iran because some guy pushed around some cops, kept resisting arrest and got tased? Really?
Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted September 19, 2007 Yes. Truly this is 1984 come to life, when some guy making a scene gets tasered by the police.
BX 0 Report post Posted September 19, 2007 You've never read 1984, have you? If this was truly a scene from the book, the kid never would have done this in the first place. He would have been kidnapped a year prior to this encounter, and brainwashed into accepting that Kerry lost the 2004 election. He would then "taze" himself while spilling tears of joy and asking his "Big Bro" to taze him. Edit: And I see that I still have issues with deciphering sarcasm in print form. Oh well, my point still stands.

PILLS! PILLS! PILLS! 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2007 But where's the outcry from the white leadership, y'know? Can we get a MoveOn press release decrying this heinous act of bro tasering? Because white bros' sensitivities have a more opaque configuration, and, thus, are not as noticeable.
At Home 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2007 Actually it's not as simple as him "asking" a question. He ran to the front of line, interrupted Kerry as he was already talking, and became a douche by spouting ridiculous conspiracy theories. His mic was cut off, which should have silenced him, but he still shouted, even as Kerry said "if you just let me answer". It's never cool to interrupt a speaking engagement, regardless of your political views. There is such a thing as respect and decorum. The cops were just doing their job. I work with law enforcement on a daily basis, and what they did was not out of order. He resisted them, even pushed some of them around. That right there is a red flag to take his ass down. As a cop in the 21st century, you have to treat EVERY SINGLE SITUATION like it's the most serious thing on earth, because all it takes is that ONE TIME where you let your guard down, and you might be facing something much worse. Yeah, because being a douche is good reason to arrest and taser someone. I'm glad that cops in the 21st century have to react like that, because their actions incited a riot, which I'm sure is much worse than one kid insinuating things at John Kerry. Didn't he even say that if the cops just got off him that he would walk out peacefully? Oh, well the cops couldn't take that seriously because he was going to go back and beat the shit out of all of them single handedly, bro. There's a difference between deserving something and having legal consequences for your actions. Furthermore, it's a little more than sickening how some people are saying that he somehow deserved the tasering because of his conduct. Go get tasered, and see how it feels and tell us if you'd recommend that as a justifiable punishment for not being a bro.
Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2007 He got tasered. Yes, it's painful, but it's not like he's going to have permanent injuries. I can't believe how pussified some Americans are becoming.

Go get tasered, and see how it feels and tell us if you'd recommend that as a justifiable punishment for not being a bro. I don't know if you've ever had to restrain somebody ever in your life, but when they are struggling, no matter the size, it could be VERY easy to injure the person further. I've seen arms broken, busted up noses, etc done when someone is being restrained against their will. A taser is perfect because for a few seconds, the body completely limps up, and it's easier to put handcuffs on or restrain them further.
EricMM 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2007 Don't a certain number of people die each year from Taser related cardiac problems, or is that just stun guns? I'm pretty sure I've heard something like that.

bobobrazil1984 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2007 After reading a couple of detailed reports of what went down, and how this guy was acting, there's no doubt in my mind he deserved to get tasered. Maybe instead of tasering him they could have just beat the crap out of him with a dozen punches but its the same result either way. This guy was just acting like a moron. NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2007 I think people are misunderstanding "he didn't need to be tased" with "OMG he is a political hero that we should all bow down to and learn a lesson from" No one is saying that guy wasn't being a smart ass and that he probably wasn't asking to get kicked out of the place. However, I see no reason he needed to be tased. Again, once the guy is cuffed and on the ground, where is the "threat" being presented that required a taser shot. I think the bigger issue in this is the fact that law enforcement is starting to rely on this tool because it is an easy way out and considering anytime you are administered an electrical shock powerful enough to "put you down" there is always a risk for some adverse effects. Was this situation really worth it, or would it have been better for the group of cops just to swarm the guy and kick him out of the building?

Jingus 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2007 He wasn't handcuffed when they tasred him. That's part of why they did it, he refused to put his hands back so they could cuff him, and still kept struggling and wouldn't stay still. Furthermore, it's a little more than sickening how some people are saying that he somehow deserved the tasering because of his conduct. Go get tasered, and see how it feels and tell us if you'd recommend that as a justifiable punishment for not being a bro. Have been tasered. It'd be completely appropriate for this idiot. It's really not as big a deal as lots of people would have you believe. My brother and his other cop/security/military buddies used to get drunk and zap each other all the time. Used to be a running rib in locker rooms too when this one guy used a stun gun for a gimmick, you had to watch out for someone sneaking up behind you and lighting you up. Unless you've got really serious health problems like a heart defect that requires a pacemaker, a taser doesn't do any permanent damage at all.
Ripper 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2007 Man. People are Rodney kinging this kid. You can not be serious. this is sarcasm, right? No, I am not. Just like back in the Rodney King days, police brutality was a serious problem. There were plenty of cases, on tape of obvious police brutality against people who didn't deserve it. Then comes some dumbass crackhead, hoped up on Meth, driving 120 in a residential area, is big as a fucking ox and after getting pepper sprayed and tased by two different taser guns is STILL trying to get up an go after the cops instead of lying down like he was asked and for some reason he was the example for police brutality. Fuck Rodney King. They should have shot his ass. that would have made him sit the fuck down. And he definately wasn't the best example for the police brutality that was occuring at the time. Right now people are getting tased by cops wanting to try out their new toy. LIke I said, that father getting tased while his newborn baby was in his hands would be a good story to talk about. But this asshole who deserved to get tased now have people in this forum and in other places talking about how incredibly wrong it was and police are out of control. Using assholes who deserve what they got to prove a point Rodney Kinging it.

Was this situation really worth it, or would it have been better for the group of cops just to swarm the guy and kick him out of the building? Yes, they had him on the ground and it was very unlikely that at that point further he was going to pose a threat to the police force. He told the cops that he would walk out if they got off him. I don't understand how he deserved it! Sure, he was being belligerent, but only so in asking questions in an inappropriate manner. He was resisting arrest because he thought it was totally unfounded. You and I would've done the same thing. Was he kicking and flailing so much so that four cops couldn't contain him? Hell no. Watch the video, that one black guy could've carried him out and did (halfway at least). They should've just removed him from the building and barred him from entering again. No one is justifing him grabbing the mic and everything, but I don't see how this makes him any more viable of a candidate for electrical shock. Even Kerry was saying that he was going to answer the question and that he thought it was too much for Meyers to get arrested. Furthermore, they charged Meyers with inciting a riot, when clearly the policemen are at fault for this. Would there've been a riot if they just escorted out of the building? Again, hell no. Like I said before, there's deserving something and having legal ramifications for your actions.
