The OAO Discussion For Raw (10/22)

Recommended Posts

I don't like the D.H name for Harry. It sounds stupid. I'm hoping they change it soon. Harry's debut was decent though.

I actually bothered to watch the women's match this week. it was OK, considering how crap Diva matches usually are. Candice's fall was vicious, but you certainly couldn't tell she broke her collar bone.

Santino is still entertaining every week. Plus we got a Mantar mention. I agree with the poster who said it would be good to see interaction between Y2J and Santino. IMO, that would be great booking.

I'd rather see Kennedy/Orton then HBK/Orton this Sunday. Kennedy and Orton are both over with the crowd, so there certainly would be decent heat for the match despite them both being heel. I love heel vs heel matches.

Oh god, Kennedy vs. Orton? That match would be like going to the 5th level of hell. Occasionally I can be amused by a heel vs. heel match, but that's certainly not one of them.

Is there any video of Harry's debut online? I missed the into part and tuned back in when Carlito was coming out. I hadn't seen much from Harry in his few OVW appearances, but that was mainly him teaming either with Kofi Kingston or Teddy Hart. But hell, he already showed me more last night than Cody Rhodes has so far.

It was spot onto the intro he did for the heat match last week that's online.

Nowadays I have absolutely no way to watch RAW, so does someone have a youtube/dailymotion link to Santino's promo? (A link to the women's match would be good as weel, but I'm more interested in the former)

Though I doubt it was intended this way (it was just going with "The Rock" and "The Undertaker"), Santino calling Bret "The Bret Hart" fits nicely with Bret's odd way of putting "the" in front of things that don't need it ("The SummerSlam").

I can't believe they just debuted Harry Smith without one single vignette or bit of hype. It makes no sense!

Bryan Alvarez was pretty scathing about Kennedy's performance in the main event in his latest podcast (freeloader version). Watching it I was kind of aware Kennedy and HBK weren't working well together, but going back and looking at it, you can see Shawn getting pretty pissed at him.

I noticed they weren't working well from the failed neckbreaker spot where Shawn made a visable expression of digust and Shawn kept taking it to Kennedy.

I noticed this last night while I was watching it. Kennedy for whatever reason is just sloppy and screws up too much. Micheals was visibly irritated a couple of times last night and for good reason.

Reportedly Candice will only be out 6 to 8 weeks fortunately. If there is some good news out of that sick bump, her return should be decent if booked right. Considering the fans seem to really respect her for how hard she has tried to improve, she should get quite the reception when she comes back. She could have a really hot feud with Beth if they book it right.

Just glad she wasn't too seriously injured. I actually like her a lot because of her attitude and her willingness to bust her ass to get better. She didn't have to try so hard to get better and you have to respect someone who also respects the business enough to actually try as hard as she has. She isn't the best wrestler in the world by any means, but she deserves a lot of praise imho.

By the way, is anyone reporting Beth getting a ton of heat for dragging her like that? I would have to think people are pretty pissed at her. Of course I think the ref should get heat too for not stopping the fucking match to begin with.

I am more apt to blame the ref instead of Beth. I mean, he knew she didn't respond to him and was knocked out cold. Beth went to the other side of the ring. When he got back up and gave the "Lets Go" sign, she probably thought that Candice told him she was fine. Then the ref says "No! Just pin her!".

The dumbass should have stopped the match. Or at least let Beth know before she got over there that the girl was injured.

So much for Kennedy "not phoning it in".

Orton's sell of the SCM is up there with Hall's Stunner sell and RVD's various DDT sells.

and even MArty Jannetty's clothesline flip sell

Or Mr. Perfect's sell...of about everything.

I too noticed the bizarre lack of communication between Michaels and Kennedy. That neckbreaker spot looked really bad in particular. Michaels is certainly not someone I'd want to fuck up in the ring against, since he has been known to make opponents look bad that he considers inferior.

The first part of the match was cutoff for me. What does the D.H stand for?

What does CM in CM Punk Stand for? The world may never know either of them.

Chick Magnet. When he was much younger Punk was in a backyard fed, and was in a tag team called the Chick Magnets. He kept the initials.

...don't ask me where I found that out, but I think it's legit and from Punk himself.

[This is where a gif of Michaels overselling the big boot would be if I wasn't at work and had the image with me.]

Shawn's promo the next night was fucking brilliant. It went something like, "He was just....TOO FAST! His technical prowess is unmatched! I couldn't keep up with him, and the better man won!". Shawn should really consider a more permanent heel run because theres hardly anyone in the business that's better at being a total dick than him.

there is video on wwe.com of candice getting medical attention and Stephanie is following candice making sure she is alright giving here water and telling the docter she couldnt breath I dont usually care for Steph but i that was kind of cool of her to make sure Candice was ok.

Stephanie fed water to Candice while she was flat on her back, causing her to nearly choke.

She probably meant well, but that was rather stupid.

Plus, Steph books RAW so it's her fault Candice landed on her head. I'll say it before someone else does.

They're already running vignettes for "Save Us" though. Not to say they couldn't run two sets of videos at the same time of course, but I assume the sell of Davey Boy's son will begin in earnest within the next few weeks, now that he's debuted. They did have the video of him on WWE.com, which is as good as hyping his debut I guess.

Worth listening to. It's a great review.

Wow, they really hate Kennedy. Yes, he fucked up a lot last night, but they won't stop complaining about how he "tries to make things look real". Well, jeez, I always thought "making it look real" was a good thing.

The primary goal of a match is to be entertaining, not look real.

I don't even recognize Bryan's voice when he's not doing radio via a telephone.

I was barely paying attention during the main event (fading in and out from sleeping, as usual by 11pm since starting to get up at 6:30 in the morning) but it sounds like I missed quite the mess. I did see the ending though.

I'm not sure what is up with Kennedy. During his initial run he was pretty solid, but it seems like once he got hurt in late 2005 he never quite seemed the same.

The Hogan match from 2005 isn't the best example of HBK antics. It was theatrical overselling to the max, but Hogan wasn't wildly screwing up spots or anything. The Shamrock match from Dec. 1997 is one where Michaels yelled spots out and generally made Shamrock look moronic.

RAW RATINGS

by Dave Scherer @ 6:57:29 PM on 10/23/2007

Last night's edition of Raw did a 3.3 cable rating. The show did hours of 3.31 and 3.33 so there was almost no growth from hour one to hour two.
