Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2008 I'm getting sick and tired of my dumbass friends hyping up this bum to be some kind of "comedy great"... I really can't stand him. I don't really hate Will Ferrell all that much, infact I think he can be funny when he is in a supporting role. I enjoyed his roles in Jay & Silent Bob Strikes Back, and Austin Powers 1&2... But the movies where he plays a lead role, is very unfunny and repetitive. I can't help myself to be more annoyed then amused. Now he is dragging John C. Reilly, who is a very good actor down to his stupid pathetic level. Fuck Will Ferrell.
starvenger 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2008 I can't say I hate Will Ferrell, but was there a need to have him in the swimsuit pix with Heidi Klum?
PLAGIARISM! 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2008 He's utterly, utterly unfunny. I can usually find a reason for most mainstream comedians I don't like being popular, but this guy just appeals to those with no intelligence whatsoever, the types who would laugh at say, a Jamaican with an upper-class English accent, or worse still, a black person basically saying something combined with a hand gesture. Fuck off, the lot of you. And no, we don't all find transvestitism the pinnacle of comedy over here. We just exported the comedies that were of a level you were all comfortable with. I cannot stand Will Ferrell, you bastards.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 This character he has been playing for the last 5 movies was funny for like the first two times. Now it's tired and it needs to go away. On the flip side, I thought he was outstanding in Stranger than Fiction and I actually like it when he tries to do something different. Just he doesn't seem to be trying ANYTHING different anymore cause it doesn't make him cash. It's a shame, I think he might be able to be a strong dramatic actor. But I stopped caring about his current crap after Blades of Glory. It just needs to stop.
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 I liked his as Frank Ricard and for about the first 20 minutes as Ron Burgundy...anything else, garbage...
Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 I go to every Will Ferrell movie (except, you know, Bewitched and Kicking and Screaming) and I like them. It's not in the realm of music and porn that I like schlock and trash. No, he's not a comedy genius or anything, but sometimes it's good to laugh at stupid shit. However, I do find most of the people who like him to be stupid. And he is best in supporting roles.
CanadianGuitarist 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 He's had his moments, and on a scale of ten, like....five and change. He is not a comedy great by any stretch.

I cannot stand Will Ferrell, you bastards. Oh fuck you. Your opinion is invalid, you dont live within the context that Ferrell's comedy exists. Go watch Red Dwarf on laserdisc. Will Ferrell is a very funny guy. He's become a slave to his persona, unfortunately. The "blinded by masculinity" guy is played out. His work on SNL (excepting the cheerleader sketch, imo) is the best in years. His work with The Groundlings is legendary within the scene. You've got to be fairly joyless to actively dislike Will Ferrell. I'd be interested to hear exactly who all you haters DO like.
Jericho2000Mark 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 I see a pretentious troll who happens to have a thesaurus nearby and is trying to sugarcoat his imbecilic ramblings with fancy lingo. Will Ferrell's comedy is made for the stupid by the stupid. There is no thought behind any of it. It's dumb physical humor with a blend of nonsense and grade-school level sexual innuendos. It has you in stitches because you have a simple mind. Perhaps that's the context that you and your ilk live in...
PLAGIARISM! 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 SNL's best in years? Quite possibly, but that's not particularly funny these days either. As for what I do like, I watch a hell of a lot of standup and sitcoms, and it's Black Books, Curb Your Enthusiasm, South Park, classic Simpsons, Brass Eye, Blackadder (most of them are British, I admit that) and as for movie actors, Bill Murray, John Belushi, Peter Sellars etc etc, and I don't necessarily prefer them because they're more 'intelligent'. Their stuff is better executed. They don't all hinge on subtlety, but Ferrell's timing isn't especially good, and his one-liners predictable. I don't spend any time analysing him to realise that. He was inoffensive as a bit-parter, but didn't exactly stand out either. Except for the fact he was always the loudest.

His persona is getting very played out but he did some very good work on SNL and Anchorman will forever be a comedy classic in my book. And Stranger For The Fiction showed he can do more subtle, somewhat dramatic roles very well.

Steviekick 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 I can't stand Ferrell at all. As a huge dork who enjoys reading about the ABA, I was completely turned off by Semi-Pro because of him. For the record, there is nothing wrong with Red Dwarf.
Ripper 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 I like Ferrell. I think people here tend to hate people that others like...just because that is what you are supposed to do or something. And then have to be all high and mighty about it as though they are above those that enjoy it. I don't agree with Mik much, but yeah...fuck off. he has some funny movies, he has some that aren't funny. Anchorman was incredible, talledega nights was good for about 15 minutes, I didn't care for blades of glory and I hear that the latest one wasn't good. So the fuck what. Love him in supporting roles and he has the ability to steal a movie, his SNL run ranks up there with some of the greats, like it or not. Yes he is a funny guy, but he has rode one act into oversaturation right now. Stranger than Fiction was awesome, so he should just mix it up more now and again and drop another silly comedy in about 3-4 years.
Guest Smues Report post Posted April 11, 2008 Never liked him, but I just avoid his movies so I don't have any particular hatred for him.
cd213 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 I like a lot of the stuff that he has done. As people have stated, he is best when he is the second or third character in the movie. His lead roles that I have loved are ELF and TALLEDEGA NIGHTS (I liked the supporting cast around him a lot), with ANCHORMAN coming up next. I don't like everything he has been in as BLADES OF GLORY and SEMI-PRO both I didn't care to see. I wasn't big into him when he was on SNL, but then again I've never been a big SNL mark, I like SCTV more, but that's just me. He needs to do more smei-serious roles now. He can either end up forgotten after a while or like Jim Carey (a comedian that expands past that sometimes).

Just call me Dan 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 or maybe a lot of people REALLY don't like him...? Basis of this "forum", not this "topic". I personally like some of his work, and find him to be overexposed at this point. I think the Stepbrothers movie will be the last straw for a while. It's cool to like him, or not, and to talk about why. People just get so elitist in these parts.
Jericho2000Mark 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 The guy I replied to came across as pretty elitist to me, I was just responding in kind. I really don't care if you like him and I probably won't think that much less of you, but don't try to make him sound like he's some kind of comedy genius whose glorified improv routine is above our heads. This is a thread for people who hate Will Ferrell, not for those who want to come here and start telling others how joyless and bitter they are for having a different opinion. Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 I'm 50/50 on him. I liked the second half of Anchorman, I liked Semi Pro. I hated hated hated Blades of Glory and I didn't care for Ricky Bobby
Cowboy Battlenuts 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 He's a comedian. He tries to make people laugh. I find him funny. Some people don't. How the hell does this warrant a thread? Seriously, you guys talking about "hating" him need to sit down, breathe, and see what can be done about the giant large stick in your colon. He's a comedian, being anything other than indifferent is just pathetic.

You might find it funny, you might not. I don't find alot of comedians funny that are considered legends but I think Cedric the Entertainer is a hilarious standup guy. Its comedy. there is nothing universal about it. To call someone stupid because they like someone you don't is...well...stupid.
Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 I heard Will Ferrell is the kind of celebrity who doesn't appreciate his fans. If that's true, seriously fuck him! It has you in stitches because you have a simple mind. Perhaps that's the context that you and your ilk live in... Now THIS is funny... are you Will Ferrell? Be honest, we wont tell. I'm pretentious because I like a frat comic? I used a thesaurus because I used the word 'context'? Are you serious? Go fuck a picnic table, anti-semite. Look, you're talking to a guy who appreciates all sorts of comedy. It's not like I'm Will Ferrell, Blue Collar, Artie Lang and then FUCK YEEE-OU. I like Eddie Izzard, Peter Sellers, Mitch Hedberg, I like Bill Murray in Groundhog's Day, I like Bill Murray in Rushmore, I like The Comedians of Comedy, Mike Birbiglia and I like Dane Cook. I even like some of Carlos Mencia's stand-up, although his sketch is the worst thing I've seen on TV. I grew up watching Kids in the Hall, Mr. Show, old Who's Line and early nineties SNL. Curb Your Enthusiasm is my favorite television show. Being There is a great movie, and the book isn't bad either. I'm of the opinion that, if something is funny, why not enjoy it? Dumb physical humor (your words, not mine)? There's room for that when it's done well, and I think Ferrell does that, as well as other things, quite well. Simple mind? I think you have a buttressed mind. Also, John Belushi, great comedian... but he's the Notorious B.I.G. of comedy. He's really funny, but he's the guy hipsters have decided it's okay to name-check. I've seen all of his stuff, does anyone want to tell me where the pantheon genius is? The samurai? The mini-donuts? Animal House?

Jericho2000Mark 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 Hahaha anti-semite... I should have paid closer attention to your name before I wrote "you and your ilk." Oops. Bill Murray was hilarious in Groundhog Day (and "What About Bob?"). I also enjoy the works of Peter Sellers and Mitch Hedberg. Curb Your Enthusiasm, early 90's SNL and Kids in the Hall are great shows. For the ones you didn't already mention, I like Dave Chapelle, Chris Farley, Steve Carell, Adam Sandler (before Little Nicky), David Spade (with Farley), Eddie Murphy (80's only), Dan Akroyd (80's only), Chevy Chase, Russell Peters, and Jerry Seinfeld.
