I don't tend to remember things that happen online...if I can't put a face to a name I tend to forget it. Even then, when I worked for a big company and had a bunch of coworkers, I could never remember names and always ended up calling them "chief" or "boss" or whatever. That's actually one of the reasons I like The Pit, because it's a much smaller community and I know a lot of the posters. When you haven't been there for a week you can catch up really easily.

 

I think I remember Banky from a fight he had with Marney, but I'm not sure. People change their names around here so much I can never keep track of who is who, and I barely ever post here anymore. I lurk once in a while but not all that much. The only reason I have been here so much the past couple of weeks is because I'm sick and stuck at home in front of the computer or TV.

This folder according to your own rules is supposed to be "anything goes" and I haven't even done anything that would warrant a ban outside this folder, never mind inside. By the way you're acting you're just making yourself look bad, even if you don't want to admit that. You just banned somebody for cussing you out in a folder that is supposed to be anything goes. This is exactly what I was talking about. You're not a good mod. You feel the need to publicly prove yourself, rather than dealing with issues privately, and you clearly take this stuff personally. I don't feel the need to prove anything, but I suppose since I am a newer mod (at this board, anyways) it would appear that way to posters who had been here a long time ago, such as yourself. Marney did not feel like she wanted to make this issue private, otherwise she wouldn't have posted her PM in this thread, and then asking to be banned- over what I said pretty much amounted to a slap on the wrist. I don't have to prove to anyone that I have authority, all I was attempting to do was stop the topic and the discourse at hand from getting further away than where it already was due to a ton of unnecessary remarks.

 

I'll admit, the remarks earlier in this thread got under my skin a little, and I probably overreacted at first, but ultimately I only banned Marney because she asked for it, not because someone cussed me out here. It's admittedly pretty funny to consider that I am being criticized for only trying to do what I can, which is to moderate discussion, especially in a folder that needs it from time to time. Furthermore, I added a note in the staff folder regarding the warning last night and the rest of the staff had agreed with my decision.

Dave, all you need to do is click on their profile, and then under Member Options you can check display name history and you can keep track of who was who from that.

 

Anyways, I'll apologize to you for my remarks earlier in the thread despite whatever you think of me, but Marney is most likely staying banned, unless she asks to be unbanned, in which (unlikely) case I'll go ahead and do, since I only felt it necessary to give her a warning about it.

For those of you who haven't read the whole thread (and don't want to), this is essentially a recap of what happened:

 

-Invader3k starts thread and suggests shit about licensing for having children again.

-Annie is the first person to side with him on this issue, and the rest of the board jumps all over her for it.

-Marney, in ripping apart (rightfully so) her ideas on licensing parents, also unnecessarily rips on Annie for being a transsexual.

-Annie is offended, thread goes way off-topic with everyone who wasn't aware that Annie is a trannie expressing their shock/disbelief.

-I step in and warn Marney about it and mention that racial, homophobic, and other bigoted slurs are pretty much where we draw the line and that although Marn had been dragging threads down with her pitbull-like tenacity/stubbornness for a while, we were letting that go, but keeping a close eye on her, and so all I did was give her a warning about it. That's it. No threats of banning, suspension, etc. Just a simple percentage added next to your name and an announcement to knock it off. A fairly simple request, that was apparently, hard to acknowledge.

-Received two reports about the thread and NYU moves it to ChocoSocket.

-TTK reappears out of the mists of time and criticizes me for "waving my e-dick around". We trade barbs for a bit.

-Marney sends me a PM at the same time that she posts it in the thread, expresses her outrage and disgust with being warned.

-I explain to her, again, why she was warned and told her that if she doesn't agree or like it here, she's free to go at any time as she has done before.

-She posts the above quote, wherein she asks to be banned if I "truly believe" everything I said. I wouldn't have said what I did if I didn't believe it, so I banned her.

-There is much rejoicing.

-There is much outrage.

-bob bitches.

 

And that's really all about it. It's incredible that all this stemmed from me just pretty much telling people to calm the hell down and respect each other.
