devo 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2008 Frustrating ending to say the least, but the Mets didn't deserve to win that game. The Padres reasonably should have had five or six runs before that inning even started.

NYU 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2008 Schoeneweis was horrid tonight. Absolutely ridiculous. Between this game, and the one two days ago against the Giants when he gave up a three run homer in the ninth, he's quickly losing his magic touch and regressing to become the same unreliable bullpen pitcher he's always been. Vampiro69 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2008 Here is the fallout from the Rays-Red Sox brawl: For the Red Sox Crisp- 7 games Lester- 5 games Casey- 3 games For the Rays Shields- 6 games Gomes- 5 games Edwin Jackson- 5 games Crawford- 4 games Iwamura- 3 games
the max 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2008 I'm curious what Lester did. If Remy is right and it was for hitting Crawford later in the game with a curveball and throwing up and in to Floyd, he should have been thrown out last night. As it is, what he did wasn't as bad as what Gomes was doing (throwing heavy body shots in a four man beatdown on Crisp) so I'm confused what Lester did that was so bad. Guest Epic Narcissism Report post Posted June 7, 2008 Fret not, maybe Lester will get the Seth McClung special, where the suspension isn't just ridiculously reduced, but erased altogether.
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2008 Muwahaha Armando Benitez sucks 6 run 8th for the Os on 3 HRs (2 off Armando) interesting fact is that the Os score almost 40% of their runs off HRs, which is the 2nd highest % in baseball.
Guest Smues Report post Posted June 7, 2008 Man the Braves are just absolutely cursed lately when it comes to closing out a 1 run game. 2 outs and an easy pop-up is dropped by Kelly Johnson to let the Phillies tie it. Of course if this was a road game it would have dropped and let the Phillies take the lead and win, so I guess I'll settle for the tied going into the bottom of the 9th. Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2008 It's fine, no ground lost. Cubs are getting shut down and if you happen to glance at Derrek Lee's line this year and consider his scorching April, he seems to have forgotten how to hit or walk.

That loss must have been a punch in the gut to Braves fans. Between the Phillies' tying run scoring on an error and the Braves' tying run getting thrown out at the plate. The Phillies increased their division lead to 3.5 games, the biggest lead they have enjoyed in seven years.
Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2008 That game is just payback for the Phils/Braves game from last year where the Phillies choked away a big lead (6 or 7 runs) in the last couple innings.

Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2008 I'm just saying that those folks who conveniently realized how much they loved the Tigers in mid 2006 are now looking silly. Not to be outdone, Jake Westbrook will also miss the rest of the season. I hope this isn't all leading to Chicago White Sox: 2008 AL Central champions. Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2008 The fact that players can appeal suspensions is sure looming large in LA right now. Of course, if Zambrano's defense doesn't force him to get 15 outs in one inning, then it's not an issue.
Dandy 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2008 Okay, so Jorge Cantu has been mashing the ball against the Reds this year. He hit a couple of homers against them earlier this year, and has 3 in the first two games of this series so far. Some Reds fans were surprised that Scott Hatteberg was kept instead of Cantu to platoon with Votto because the club needed some right handed hitters more than lefties. After Cantu hit a home run in tonight's game, announcer Chris Welsh looked up roster moves to see the exact reason that Cantu was released back on Dec. 5th. They needed a roster slot for Sergio Valenzuela the very next day from the Rule 5 Draft. What happened to Valenzuela, you ask? Chris Welsh: "They got him down to spring training and he looked so bad in his warmups that they never even put him in a game." Al, do you know a site that will allow you (as a non-subscriber) to access a player's stats against individual teams? I would like to know what Cantu has done against the Reds this year. He has 5 homers at least.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2008 Cantu isn't that impressive overall. He has pop but he's a hacker, and his defense is below-average. Joey Votto is hitting lefties fine this season, so no big loss to not have a platoon partner. As for the vs. team splits, they are free at Baseball-reference.com, and you can look them up either by year or by career. Your memory is faulty, Cantu did not hit a home run at all in the earlier series. Cody Ross hit two home runs in that series though, and he was briefly a Red. Dandy 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2008 Hmm, I would have sworn that it was Cantu. Even though Votto hits lefties just fine, the Reds were in a bigger need of a right handed bat to come off the bench or platoon. Cantu is an adventure in the field, but platooning him wouldn't have been a bad idea. Before the season, no one knew that Votto would hit well vs. lefties, and a right hander that could play multiple positions would definitely help in double switch scenarios. I am not a Cantu fan, but it just seemed like a dumb move and it was even dumber in retrospect.
