Simple concept: Desert Island. Solar powered TV/DVD player. 20 movies of your choosing. Go!

 

Rules:

- Serpentine draft rules (I figure 20 rounds is enough)

- 12 hour timetable to make your pick. If it expires, the next person on tap can make his selection. If you've missed your turn to pick, you may do it at any time once you come back.

- Please PM the person who goes next and let them know it's their turn.

 

Please include a pic (preferably a movie poster) and a brief explanation of why you chose that particular flick.

In the end, TSMers can vote for who ended up with the best overall collection.

 

So far, I can't think of anything that would be ineligible...okay, Porno. Other than that, it should all be good.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre

 

My favorite movie of all time. Not much more needs to be said about this one, save that I'm aware that the way I spelled Chainsaw is different than the poster. Fellow TCM followers will know why.

The first film I ever really remember laughing at until I hurt. It has a comedic cast that almost can't be rivaled and features some of my favorite one-liners - usually from Jonathan Winters or Buddy Hackett.

Full Metal Jacket.

 

Not only is this arguably the best war movie of all time (I know there are others), but the beginning with Sargent Hartman includes some of the funniest lines in movie history, " I am hard but I am fair. There is no racial bigotry here. I do not look down on niggers, kikes, wops or greasers. Here you are all equally worthless". I also like Animal Mother, his loyalty and arrogance and the story told with Private Joker on how war really isn't what he expected.

Harsh! I would have picked that a few rounds in. The only thing that brings it down a notch is that I love the first half so much more than the second.

 

Unlike the music or even TV drafts I'm doing, I'm pretty unfamiliar with most of you guys' taste. Should be interesting.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

 

My favorite film of all time. I'm not the sort who rewatches movies often, but I saw this three times in theaters when it came out and always found something new to focus on and appreciate. And, really, the level of talent of the people making it says it all; Michel Gondry as director, Charlie Kaufman as writer, and Jon Brion as the composer, with the cast being fucking fantastic, especially Jim Carrey whose omission from the Oscars despite putting on the performance of his life was a huge crime. There's absolutely no way I could have picked anything other than this first, really.

great pick, the first half is probably one of the most quoted movies among me and friends...and Animal Mother does rule, especially since it's Adam Baldwin playing him which I only just recently realized.

The Usual Suspects, 1995.

 

Easily one of, if not the best movie I've ever seen. Regardless of having seen the movie and the big reveal at the end, it keeps me hooked on repeated viewings just as much as it did the first time I saw it. The cast clicked, the plot was fantastic...if they intended this to be the perfect movie then they did a damn good job of it.

The first time I saw the movie was last winter when I had school cancelled, last winter. The cast amazed me, and quite frankly, I think my true top two will be available later.

Pulp Fiction

 

This isn't my favorite movie, but it is in my top 3, and I'm not taking the chance of letting it slip away. Great actors, great characters, and great dialogue, and I could watch it over and over again without ever getting sick of it. My collection of movies wouldn't be complete without it.
