DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted July 27, 2008 I picked matches I don't already have on DVD (which eliminated most of the 1st bracket except for tag matches and Flair vs. Luger). Arn/Tully vs. Road Warriors RnR vs Midnights (had I realized I was picking a scaffold match, I probably would have picked something else) Midnights vs. Midnights Road Warriors vs. Dusty/Sting Flair vs. Luger Sting vs. Muta Sting vs. Flair Hansen vs. Luger Sting vs. Vader Vader vs. Ric Flair Savage vs. Flair Mysterio vs. Liger Eddie vs. DDP Eddie vs. Malenko Sting vs. Hogan
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted July 27, 2008 The scaffold match is historic, it has the spot where Jim Cornette screwed up his knee. I have eight of those matches on dvd, with two more on the Road Warriors dvd. Flair/Luger is the only real good match that has yet to make DVD from that section. DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted July 27, 2008 I thought the Cornette thing was from Warriors vs. MX (which is on the Road Warriors DVD).

geniusMoment 0 Report post Posted July 28, 2008 My list is different, as I picked out matches I haven't seen. And Flair/Race and Piper/Valentine have already been featured prominently elsewhere. The NWA ERA The Brisco Brothers vs. Ricky Steamboat & Jay Youngblood--Starrcade 83 Tully Blanchard vs. Ricky Steamboat--Starrcade 84 Manny Fernandez vs. Abdullah the Butcher--starrcade 85 The Midnight Express vs. The Original Midnight Express--Starrcade 88 Ric Flair vs. Lex Luger--Starrcade 88 THE WCW ERA 1989-1994 Sting vs. The Great Muta--Starrcade 89 Doom vs. Arn Anderson & Barry Windham--Starrcade 90 The Great Muta & Barry Windham vs. Brian Pillman & 2 Cold Scorpio--Starrcade 92 Sting vs. Vader--Starrcade 92 Vader vs. Ric Flair --Starrcade 93 THE MONDAY NIGHT WAR ERA (1995-2000) "Macho Man" Randy Savage vs. Ric Flair--Starrcade 95 Hollywood Hogan vs. Sting--Starrcade 97 Billy Kidman vs. Eddie Guerrero--Starrcade 98 Eddie Guerrero vs. Dean Malenko--Starrcade 97 Bret Hart vs. Goldberg--Starrcade 99 Those were my five picks from each era As an aside, what's with all the love for Flair/Race. That match sucked, when I first watched it on the Flair DVD I had trouble sitting all the way through it. I have no desire for it to be prominently featured on another WWE release. Diamonddust 0 Report post Posted July 28, 2008 Seeing the match listing for Starrcade '89 just reaffirms how they completely screwed up some major league money matches (Another Sting/Muta match, Flair/Muta, Road Warriors/Steiners) with the Iron Man tournament. heyguesswhatidid 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2008 Should be interesting.
franchise632 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2008 So interesting stuff so far...they had a pretty wide reaching criteria for making their choices. I don't think I ever saw Starrcade 96 so Hogan vs Piper was a first watch for me...it is about what I would have imagined. Sting vs Muta from 89 was a fun little match that I hadn't seen in forever. that is as far as I have watched...I had it on earlier but dozed off so I don remember everything, just turned it back on
DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2008 So far: 25. Piper vs. Hogan - 1996 24. Sting vs. Muta - 1989 23. Douglas/Steamboat vs. Pillman/Windham - 1992 22. Goldberg vs. Nash - 1998 21. Battlebowl - 1991 This show is well put together. I enjoy the format.
DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2008 Hey, you really can enhance the experience by going to WWE.com (as stated in a graphic at the end of the show!). http://www.wwe.com/shows/wwe247/starrcade25th/ They have "extras" to go with the matches.
MillenniumMan831 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2008 Do these 'extra' vids work for anyone?
DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2008 So far, no. I get a message alerting me of WWE.com's new video player which doesn't load the video.
heyguesswhatidid 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2008 I'm hoping the websites "extras" are on the DVD, if one is coming out. Because, at least then it'll give me a reason to buy it. Also, JR said he filmed something for the DVD, so it would be even better if it was something completely different than this countdown, which is awesome to begin with. Boner Kawanger 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2008 Watched Piper/Hogan (my best friend is in the audience..if anyone of you knew what he looked like, that would matter) before I went into the work. I lost it when Tony and Dusty were freaking out over Piper pulling out Hogan's hair and Heenan deadpanned "It won't take long". The match is better than I dreaded it would be, but I've become such a Piper mark in the last few years. His awful dropkick is the precursor to the Shining Wizard in my book. Boner Kawanger 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2008 Yeah, it was forbidden in the 80s WWF, I think. Okay, who didn't mark out when Muta busted out a Cattle Mutilation? Sting's reversal was pretty swank, too.
Enigma 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2008 Yes, during Hogan's big run, Vince told everyone that Hogan's hairline was completely off-limits in promos.
zappafrank 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2008 So is what's being shown on 24/7 just an advance airing of the DVD that's coming out in January?
DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2008 I doubt it. I don't see the DVD having 25 matches (though that's not impossible) and The Essential Starrcade is clearly set up as defined episodes with the Mean Gene studio segments.
