jackmcmanus21 Posted July 24, 2008 Report Posted July 24, 2008 courtesy of MMAJunkie: * Rashad Evans vs. Chuck Liddell * Rich Franklin vs. Matt Hamill * Dan Henderson vs. Rousimar Palhares * Karo Parisyan vs. Yoshiyuki Yoshida * Tim Boetsch vs. James Lee * Roan Carneiro vs. Ryo Chonan * Matt Brown vs. Dong Hyun Kim looks like a pretty sick card, lot of star power. Evans, Liddell, Franklin, Henderson, Parisyan on one card looks good to me. Carneiro vs. Chonan will be an submission clinic
Mik Posted July 24, 2008 Report Posted July 24, 2008 Well, I'm interested to see Franklin/Hamill because I don't know... Matt can easily win that fight. Hell, all three of the big names under the main event are vulnerable. Dan Henderson is, and should be, a mega-favorite over Palhares but he can get caught in a sub. I'd still favor Dan. Also, Karo has flat out admitted that he doesn't train as hard as he should...well, his talent level is not that much greater than Yoshida to get away with that, so if he doesn't come in ready to fight then he could lose as well. I still think the main event is clear cut win for Liddell though, but it wouldn't be the biggest upset of all time.
Lord of The Curry Posted July 24, 2008 Report Posted July 24, 2008 UFC.com just announced Kurt Pellegrino vs Thiago Tavares in what one would imagine is a Loser Leaves The Company fight. Also, depending on some factors we may see a new main event if UFC decides to run Cote vs Anderson.
The Niggardly King Posted July 25, 2008 Report Posted July 25, 2008 Holy crap there's at least one guy in every fight that I really like... I don't recall that in a while. I'm gonna get this.
HollywoodSpikeJenkins Posted July 25, 2008 Report Posted July 25, 2008 I want to see Franklin vs. Anderson Silva...at 205.
Cuban Linx Posted July 25, 2008 Report Posted July 25, 2008 Really good looking card. Boetsch and Kim should provide a pair of entertaining slaughters, Tavares/Pellegrino, Henderson/Palhares and Parisyan/Yoshida should all be damn good fights, Franklin/Hamill will be interesting to see, and while another episode of Chuck KO's the wrestler isn't the greatest main event it shouldn't be boring either. All that and it's still possible we get an Anderson Silva annihilation/title defense as well.
Mik Posted July 25, 2008 Report Posted July 25, 2008 I want to see Franklin vs. Anderson Silva...at 205. Third result would be the same as the first two.
Lord of The Curry Posted July 25, 2008 Report Posted July 25, 2008 "Rich Franklin Moving up to HW To Avoid Anderson Silva" "Frankling considering a cut to 170. Reasons are unknown." "Rich Franklin: Contender at 155?"
HollywoodSpikeJenkins Posted July 25, 2008 Report Posted July 25, 2008 Forever and ever, Anderson Silva will haunt Rich Franklin. Wherever you go, Ace, he'll be right behind you...kneeing you...in the face...from behind.
Lord of The Curry Posted July 25, 2008 Report Posted July 25, 2008 Forever and ever, Anderson Silva will haunt Rich Franklin. Wherever you go, Ace, he'll be right behind you...kneeing you...in the face...from behind. If anybody could knee somebody in the face from behind I'd bet on Andy Silva.
starvenger Posted July 25, 2008 Report Posted July 25, 2008 So, is UFC 89 gonna be called "Conquer"? Rich is gonna have his hands full with Hamill. I don't like the kid but he's a tough match for anyone he goes up against.
Lord of The Curry Posted July 25, 2008 Report Posted July 25, 2008 Franklin is for sure going to put the "Hammil can't be hurt" theory to the test but I see Matt by UD at this point.
Lt. Al Giardello Posted July 26, 2008 Report Posted July 26, 2008 Franklin is for sure going to put the "Hammil can't be hurt" theory to the test but I see Matt by UD at this point. Yeah thats how I'm going to call it as well... Hamill is a better wrestler and stronger as well, I see him dictating how the fight goes.
The Niggardly King Posted July 26, 2008 Report Posted July 26, 2008 I could honestly see Hamill pounding him out on the ground for a TKO late in the 2nd round.
Rendclaw Posted July 28, 2008 Report Posted July 28, 2008 I want to see Franklin vs. Anderson Silva...at 205. They could fight at 305 and the result would be the same. After the last fight its obvious that no matter what Franklin does, Silva has an answer and will take Franklin out. Rich knows he can;t beat Silva, no matter what.
RavishingRickRudo Posted July 28, 2008 Report Posted July 28, 2008 Franklin uses angles and picks his shots whereas Hamill is very flat-footed and uses little lateral movement. I see Ace picking Hamill apart and busting him up bad.
Lt. Al Giardello Posted July 28, 2008 Report Posted July 28, 2008 If Rich is able to keep the fight standing, then yes he will pick him apart... But Hamill can most likely take down Rich.
The Niggardly King Posted July 28, 2008 Report Posted July 28, 2008 Hamill is just going to overwhelm Franklin. Only way he's losing is if he gets caught in a sub.
Lord of The Curry Posted July 28, 2008 Report Posted July 28, 2008 Or Franklin cracks him one and knocks his block off. We've seen Hamill take shots before but not from somebody who can strike like Rich.
Lt. Al Giardello Posted July 28, 2008 Report Posted July 28, 2008 Or Franklin cracks him one and knocks his block off. We've seen Hamill take shots before but not from somebody who can strike like Rich. Michael Bisping is problay just as good of a techncial striker as Rich.
Lord of The Curry Posted August 1, 2008 Report Posted August 1, 2008 Nate Marquardt vs Martin Kampmann Me rikey. That should complete the main card...... Chuck/Rashad Franklin/Hammil Hendo/Phalhares Karo/Yoshida Hitman/Nate
RavishingRickRudo Posted August 2, 2008 Report Posted August 2, 2008 That's a pretty ok card. Guaranteed to suck.
The Niggardly King Posted August 2, 2008 Report Posted August 2, 2008 Or Franklin cracks him one and knocks his block off. We've seen Hamill take shots before but not from somebody who can strike like Rich. Hamill still has no head movement like many other UFC fighters, but he has shown improved defense over the last year. The problem is that he'll drop that defense and be content to throw blows after a round or so. But I just can't see Ace beating the guy unless he catches him while he's gassed in a sub.
Youth N Asia Posted August 13, 2008 Report Posted August 13, 2008 Hamill vs Franklin is the only fight on this card I really care to see. I didn't like Chuck vs Rashad when it was set to headline 85...and 85 sucked with or without that fight
The Niggardly King Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 So the winner of Liddell/Evans will be getting the next title fight?
HollywoodSpikeJenkins Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 They just showed Evans/Bisping on Unleashed. How in the world can anyone think that Evans can beat Liddell? Seriously?
