Predictions for 2009

Recommended Posts

So here is the 2009 thread. It's safe to say that 2008 wasn't as eventful as 2007 in terms of the main stream media, but there were still a few surprises such as Punk and Jeff winning world titles. Without further ado, here's my predictions for 2009.

Austin will wrestle at Wrestlemania 25

Sting will join the WWE finally

Christian will be a World Champion by Summerslam

Ron Killings will slowly fade away

WWE will continue to have more mass firings, this time the names will be Benjamin, Kendrick, Kennedy as the big ones

ECW will fold

Chris Jericho will get another Intercontinetal Championship run

Shawn Michaels will retire in 2009

Undertaker will not in 2009

Ted Dibiase will be a major player by the end of 2009

John Cena will have another superman run with the world title, and will not drop the title at all in 2009

One superstar will be elected to the hall of fame and it will shock us all

Orton becomes a major face

Batista will continue to choke in title matches

CM Punk turns heel

Rey Mysterio will just flounder on Raw

Kurt Angle will return by Survivor Series

Matt and Jeff will be de-pushed by Vengence

Triple H will take time off, just because he can

Santino Marella will become a world champion

Mick Foley returns to WWE just to bash TNA

One major TNA star, not named Sting, will join the WWE

There will be a few more "Braden Walkers" in the WWE

Kelly Kelly will pose nude for Playboy

Big Show will become WWE Champion

Goldust, Cody and Dusty will get TV time as a trio

DH Smith and TJ Wilson will be known by the end of 2009

Cryme Tyme will break up and Shad will be pushed as a HOSS

Some of these may be a little out there:

Undertaker's Wrestlemania streak will remain intact

ECW will get a secondary championship

CM Punk will turn heel

Batista or John Cena will turn heel

Santino will ditch his goofball character and revert to his OVW gimmick

Kurt Angle will return with a limited schedule

Stone Cold Steve Austin will get the Ric Flair treatment around Wrestlemania

Orton will be the top guy on RAW by the end of the year

Jeff Hardy will earn "Strike 3" during his title run

Rob Van Dam will return with a limited schedule

Evan Bourne will win MitB, challenge Matt hardy for the ECW title, and win

Cryme Tyme will break up with Shad being the "Shawn Michaels" of the team

After his push dies, R Truth will ask for his release around the middle of the year

Shelton Benjamin will carry the United States belt for a majority of the year

This time next year, John Cena will still be World Champion, and will have a 'Spinner' World title

I called either Matt or Jeff winning a world title in the 2008 thread (both did if you count the ECW title being a world) as well as the Big Show returning. Nobody on the current roster has died yet but there's still about a week and a half to go.

For 2009.....

Jeff Hardy is fired around June.

Vince Mcmahon starts suffering the beginning of what turns out to be fatal health problems for him.

A main event superstar has a huge blowup with the company and eventually defects to TNA

Kennedy gets released

Mysterio suffers yet another injury keeping him out for most of the year.

2009

-Shawn Michaels declares that he’ll retire for good @ Summer Slam but when a top star gets injured, Shawn is asked to stay and he does, delaying his retirement until WM26.

-Undertaker’s streak remains intact with a victory over Michaels, but takes his annual sabbatical during the summer and returns with yet another slightly modified version of his character. He will get a final brief title run in the fall.

-Kendrick will win the MITB @ WM and attempts to cash it in on the same night against the ECW Champion.

-Due to the struggling economy, WWE will be forced to lay off more production workers, office employees and a majority of their development workers. However, Bob Holly will remain employed.

-Mike Knox will not shave his beard in 2009.

-Rey Mysterio will be the lone major name to leave WWE for TNA.

-The following are just some that will be released: D-Lo Brown, Paul Burchil, JTG, Curt Hawkins, Boogeyman, Zach Ryder, Bam Neely, Gavin Spears, Alicia Fox and Hornswoggle.

-Despite a long losing streak, MVP has a great Rumble, lasting an hour, this finally snaps MVP out of his funk and he enjoys great success in 2009.

-Edge wins the Royal Rumble.

-Santino Marella will be publicly arrested and a video hits Youtube within hours.

-Matt Striker is moved to Raw to replace Lawler. Lawler moves to Smackdown to reunite with Ross. Tazz moves to ECW.

-Goldust and Dusty Rhodes get a tag title run.

-Trish Stratus makes a return to the ring on a limited schedule but quickly turns heel.

-CM Punk gets moved to Smackdown and is established as a top face on that brand.

-Matt Hardy will turn on Jeff and they attempt to make that feud work again. It’ll be the focus of ECW for awhile. Jeff strikes out once again just before their blow-off match. Jeff is buried and released from the company. Jeff quits the business for awhile.

-The Tag Team titles will be unified at WrestleMania by Miz and Morrison.

-In a bizarre mandate from McMahon, he declares a no-new tattoo policy on the wrestlers. Randy Orton is the first to break that rule and with no action being taken, the rule is quickly forgotten.

-WWE sign Rhett Titus, Delirious and Kenny King.

-Thanks to his appearence in The Wrestler, Necro Butcher also signs.

-Here are just a few of the names will be suspended for some form of wellness violation: Cody Rhodes, Manu, Carlito, Umaga, Chavo Guerrero, Ricky Ortiz and both Hawkins/Ryder.

-Despite the efforts to promote a kid friendly image, WWE once again does a Playboy pictorial just before WM. The Bella Twins will appear.

-Ezekiel Jackson will finally depart from Kendrick, in similar fashion to HBK/Diesel and enjoy a title push on ECW.

-Mr. Kennedy suffers another injury in his return match and misses 6 months. Frustrated with Kennedy’ injury habit, Kennedy is released. Kennedy surfaces on a VH1 type show as a host. .

-Kelly Kelly will enjoy her push as the “New Trish Stratus”.

-Inspired by The Wrestler’s success, McMahon decides to directly steal from the movie using Marty Jannetty.

-Marty Jannetty will be fired.

Ted Dibiase will beat Orton's record for longest reigning IC champ of the decade, or whatever Orton's record was.

Zach Ryder and Curt Hawkins will get split up in the draft and then subsequently be released.

After Big Zeke gets the Hoss push, Kendrick will flounder then eventually be released. Zeke will then beat Gregory Helms for the US Title.

Edge will steal the WWE Title AGAIN.

Legacy will turn on Dibiase the same way Evolution turned on Orton.

The Miz and Morrison will hold the Raw Tag Titles for a whole calendar year.

Jack Swagger will win the ECW Title.

There will be a new secondary (the way WWE treats secondary titles, we should probably call this new title a tertiary title) title. Sort of like a TV title maybe for ECW.

Vince will come back with a beard.

Paul Heyman will make a surprise return to bit at Step, then leave. Kind of like Bischoff did time to time, after getting fired by Vince.

Hogan will come back and cross promote CCW with WWE. Hogan will walkout though, after Vince ask him to do a job, that he agrees to do, until 45 minutes before the match.

Flair will comeback as a GM or Managing his son Reid.

Edge will have fallout with Triple H and leave.

Seeds will be planted for a HBK retiring angle that ends at mania 26 with Morrison putting him out and becoming a face the next night.

Mize will become the top guy on ECW.

Rey/Bourne become World tag champs.

Kendrick will win the MITB, but somehow Ezekiel Jackson will end up cashing it in, because Kendrick will be injured or something.

Matt Hardy will become a heel.

Legacy will turn on Orton, turning Randy in to a face, but they will kill his character and his face run will be just as bad as his last.

Jeff Hardy will get fired before or shortly after mania, he will then go to TNA.

Jeff Hardy will be found dead in a hotel room in Orlando, Shannon Moore will find him.

Velvet Sky will enter WWE.

Kurt will return to WWE, but break is neck soon after.

Karen Angle will find another wrestler to fuck, and Kurt will get arrested for beating the shit out of him.

TNA will rapidly start to coming close to its grave, after guys like Nash, Steiner, and Booker T become headaches and start to milk the company.

Sting will make his WWE debut, where he will meet (and lose to) Taker at S. Series, feud with McMahon, and have a blow off match with Vince at Mania 26.

Nash will get a job in WWE's creative, after leaving TNA when he asked to job to Joe or Styles at BFG 2009.

Nash will be released as member of the WWE creative team.

Scott Hall will sober up and become an agent for WWE. He will do a good job and gain the trust of everybody in the company, until he falls off the wagon during a plane trip to Europe.

X-Pac will get an agent spot, and actually do a very good job and become a lifer.

WWE will release a Clique DVD.

Bret Hart will have his life story picked up by major in Hollywood, hoping to cash in big on the "Wrestler" success. The movie will bomb.

Batista will fail a wellness test, which will be the beginning of his end in WWE.

Jericho will get 2 more transitional runs 1 more on Raw, and then one on Smack down.

Shane will take over Smack down and fire Vickie.

Evan Bourne will get a legit push on Raw.

Punk will become a heel on Smack down, and get over huge. This angle will be the last time Jeff Hardy is featured on WWE TV, Punk will give him a beat down like Edge did Foley, and that will be the last we see of him in WWE.

Regal will get a transitional run.

Matt will get pushed as a maineventer, but he won't get over like Jeff. Partly because he just isn't Jeff, and partly because he will be under minded and punished for Jeff's last fuck up.

Christian will end up being a commentator.

JBL will end up getting Johnny Ace's job.

Joey Styles will get a cushy job involving the WWE Library.

Michael Cole will end up back on Smackdown with Taz.

JR will end up back on Raw with Christian.

Jerry Lawler will get an agent job, or end up running a Memphis based developmental camp.

Ron Killing will be fired.

Kennedy will be fired.

Scotty Goldman will be fired.

Morishima will get a 2 year deal, with NOAH's blessing; because they know when he comes back he will be booked like a king.

Foley will make a return, to sill yet another book, about how the business doesn't respect him; TNA will be included this time.

Shelton Benjamin will be fired.

Kendrick will start voicing his opinion publicly on how creative sucks.

Danielson will debut on ECW, get over huge, and end up becoming a favorite of HBK and Hunter. Danielson will be viewed as a kid the company can groom, and gets how business operated. Unlike the trouble maker CM Punk, who constantly gets in squabbles over how his character is being treated.

Vince will acquire the ROH Library.

Joe will sign with WWE and be repackaged, which he will welcome with open arms, after his horrendous run with TNA.

Morrison will win the MITB, and cash it in after the 1st title match at mania.

- WWE will find its year marked by continuing efforts to mitigate the effects of a severe recession.

- The Cyber Sunday PPV will be dropped.

- Raw and Smackdown will have an on-air talent exchange agreement. Wrestlers will still be identified by primary brand but the brand division will be rendered all but meaningless.

- There will still be separate Raw and Smackdown brand singles champions. The tag team and women's/divas belts will both be unified. House shows will be combined into Raw/Smackdown supershow events.

- CM Punk will be on the receiving end of a Stone Cold Stunner.

- Jeff Hardy will be assessed his third strike only to be saved by WWE's new four strike policy.

Christian Cage will stay in TNA but Hernandez and Robert Roode will go to WWE.

I know these are supposed to be outlandish predictions sometimes, but there is no way that Hernandez will end up in WWE. Both he and Homicide signed new 3 year deals with TNA last week.

By the way some of your guys predictions are stupid with no logic behind them.

Yeah the WWE is going to release Kofi Kingston, despite him being one of the better workers in the company and extremely over.

Yeah they are going to release Cryme Tyme, despite them being one of the most over face acts in the company and the WWE being very high on Shad and could make a lot of money off him. Maybe JTG will be released if they break up Cryme Tyme, but certainly not Shad.

CM Punk will become a legit ME wrestler, either as a heel or a face.

Edge will turn face when Christian returns by beating down on Vickie.

Randy Orton will become a face.

Batista will turn heel.

Trips will turn heel.

Jeff Hardy will get fired for his 3rd strike, end up in TNA and win the TNA World Title within a month.

Paul London was a great worker. Where is he now? Kingston's push has largely stalled out on Raw, he was much better off on ECW.

As for Cryme Tyme, both men have been over, that didn't stop them from being released the first time. My list of firings is in the belief that WWE will have to make major cuts in this economy, the likes of which we have never seen before.

If you have such a problem with my predictions though, please make up your own.

Paul London has zero charisma or camera pressence. That is not the case with Kofi... When has London ever been as over, or even pushed as much as Kofi? Kofi hasn't been pushed in the main event scene, but he is in a fine spot on RAW and is constantly given TV time, and has been putting on good matches that go over with the crowd on RAW. He is very muched needed and belongs on RAW, there is no need to push him right off the bat, he's been in the WWE for 1 year? It takes other wrestlers longer to get to the main event level.

Why would they release him, when he is valued?

Cryme Tyme got released the 1st time over some bullshit, and got hired back in like 6 months. What does that have to do with them getting released again? Back then they could afford to release them, now they are even more over and actually put on decent matches.

If you want some of my predictions well then here:

- Steve Austin will wrestle John Cena at Wrestlemania.

- Jeff Hardy loses the title at the Royal Rumble back to Edge.

- The Rock makes another cameo appearence close to Wrestlemania.

- Kane gets a main event title feud.

- Shawn Michaels gets one more title run.

- MVP wins MITB and cashes it in at Summerslam.

Although only a couple of my predictions last year cam true, a lot of them were way off, but I'll try this again

The film "The Wrestler" becomes an overwhelming success, reigniting public interest in Professional Wrestling, but it will be very short lived, and no one will be able to successfully capitalize

ROH will fold after the summer due to dwindling attendance, and an inability to sell their DVDs

TNA will struggle to survive in the current economic climate, but will manage to make it through this year, which could very well end up being their last. Kurt Angle will leave, and make an unsuccessful attempt at Mixed Martial Arts, before returning WWE, working a limited schedule

Despite his lackluster dark match appearence, Tyson Tomko will get himself into shape, come back to RAW, and become a huge star.

Mike Knox ends up getting a Vladmir Kozlov-esque push and works at least one PPV Main Event against John Cena

This will be both Undertaker and Shawn Michaels last year as active competitors, with them wrestling one another in their retirement match at WM 26

Kane will decide to hang up the boots as well, working a limited schedule before being vanquished once and for all by his brother at Summerslam

The new Hart Foundation will never resurface, however the Legacy Faction on RAW will expand to Smackdown and include DH Smith, Natalya, Ray Gordy, and Hennig Jr

Festus, Umaga, Kozlov, Colt Cabana, Hornswaggle, Boogeyman, Carlito, Hawkins, Ryder, Helms, Jimmy Yang, Bob Holly, D-Lo, Jillian, Paul Birchill, Katy Lea, Jamie Noble, and everyone except for the established Superstars on ECW will be in the unemployment line.

Charlie Haas will continue his current gimmick giving us some amusing characters such as Muhammad Haasan and Hunter Haas Helmsly, but will be released after Wrestlemania

WWE will make one last attempt at pushing Mr. Kennedy, but he will blow it with an injury and a wellness violation all in the same week, and get released as a result. He signs on with TNA after his no-compete clause is up and become a huge star over there.

The RAW and Smackdown tag belts will merge futher blurring the lines in the brand split

ECW as we know it will be canceled and get a format change turning it into a Heat / Velocity type show featuring wrestlers from both RAW and Smackdown

WWE will experiment with the old-school six hour taping where an entire months worth of material gets taped all at once, but it won't be successful, and will settle with an every other week schedule where two RAWs get taped back to back on Monday, and two Smackdowns back to back on Tuesday

Future Main Eventers: Ted Dibiase Jr, Mike Knox (Unfortunately), Cody Rhodes, Ezekial, Shad Gaspar

Wrestlers whose importance will dwindle: CM Punk, Jeff Hardy, JBL, Batista

After awhile Vince will get tired of pushing Kozlow and he'll be released.

A couple of the non major PPV's will get low buy rates and it will chop the number of PPV's down to 12.

TNA will fold because of the economic crisis.

JBL will reinjure his back and be forced to retire.

HBK and JBL will wrestle at Wrestlemania.

Randy Orton will win the Royal Rumble.

John Cena will be the World Heavyweight Champion till he injures himself again. This cycle will keep happening because of the way he pushes himself.

The McMahons will have an on air feud which will lead to a fatal four way between them at Wrestlemania.

Hogan's reality show will and he'll make peace with the WWE and wrestle at Summerslam versus Edge.

Batista will quit the company because of his ego.

Triple H will take more of a backstage/mentoring role for the young superstars.

Bob Holly will be released and he'll go crazy.

Atleast 5 of these people will be released: Jeff Hardy, Kozlow, Paul Birchill, Katie Lea, Funaki, R-Truth, Kevin Thorn, D-Lo Brown, Bob Holly, and Charlie Haas

Christian will return to WWE and be on the Smackdown roster

A main event WWE star will suffer a career-ending injury

Ted DiBiase will be the break-out major star of the second-generation guys

Joey Styles will be made figure-head GM of one WWE's "brands"

Triple H will turn heel

Undertaker VS Shawn Michaels or Triple H will be a main event at Wrestlemania

Ezekiel Jackson will turn face and split from Kendrick, then get an upper mid-card push

John Morrison and the Miz will split, with Morrison becoming a main eventer as a face by the end of the year.

-Umaga will have a WWE Title run.

-The Legacy will grow stronger and will eventually turn on Randy Orton, who becomes a babyface. Ted DiBiase, who conspired the plot, will become their new leader.

-Triple H returns to RAW as a heel and forms an alliance with a newly heel Batista. The two will eventually feud with the uneasy alliance of John Cena and Randy Orton. Shawn Michaels will be torn between the two sides in a hot angle but will eventually emphatically remain a face.

-A WrestleMania main event will be two superstars representing Shane and Stephanie McMahon wrestling for control of WWE. Whoever wins and takes control will be quickly disposed of by a returning babyface Vince.

-Kane and Big Show reunite as a tag team.

-Jeff Hardy will remain a main event player on Smackdown.

-Chris Jericho returns to the midcard for the majority of the year.

-Rey Mysterio gets a masked nemesis and will engage in a feud leading to a mask vs. mask match.

-Million Dollar Mania will take place again when RAW’s ratings begin to dwindle.

-Sting retires from TNA in grand fashion, with his farewell ceremony including video messages from Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair.

-MVP’s burial will cease but he will still remain a midcarder by the end of 2009.

-Shawn Michaels and Undertaker will not retire in 2009. However, both will take lengthy sabbaticals. JBL will retire again in 2009 and will become the third man on the RAW announce team.

-WWE and Great Khali part ways, causing Mark Henry to be turned into a comedy babyface and feature in skits with Mae Young playing off their past romance.

-Notable releases will include The Boogeyman, Mike Knox, Hurricane Helms and William Regal (third strike). Michelle McCool will be noticeably depushed as her relationship with Undertaker behind the scenes ends. Vickie Guerrero will also cease to be an on-air character.

-Big Daddy V is rehired and works a feud with Undertaker.

-Christian is drafted to ECW and he and Matt Hardy engage in a very lengthy singles feud.
