Guest Report post Posted January 16, 2009 They can't have the Winter Classic in the Rose Bowl unless they move the date of the Winter Classic. So they won't be having the Winter Classic at the Rose Bowl. In addition, the Winter Classic isn't geared to the hardcore fan. Not at all. The whole purpose of the thing, down to timeslot, location, and promotion is specifically geared to bring in new fans.

Buffalo, Chicago, and Edmonton are bonafide hockey markets, with hardcore fans.
Guest Report post Posted January 16, 2009 Yes they are hardcore hockey markets, but the game wouldn't be played in the timeslot before the Rose Bowl were it not for the sole purpose of bringing in new fans. There are better times to play a hockey game. Nothing's really been said about the Winter Classic coming back up north, so my viewpoint regarding casual fans is kind of confirmed in that. The forays into Europe pretty much say it all. Especially when the first of those games is played in England, a locale with very few hockey fans to begin with. It's all about dollars. More fans, more dollars.

bob_barron 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2009 2-0 Phoenix. Luongo is great and all, but defensive giveaways AGAIN. The Leafs-Canes game almost gave me a heart attack though. And of course Centre Ice isn't working.

The highlight of that mess was when they put a bunch of 5 year olds on the ice at intermission and had them play. They all skated better than Pyatt.

ZGangsta 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2009 You were at the game? Ouch dude. I'm thankful I took my trip to Vancouver in December Did you go to the Leafs game that month? Cause I was there for that and it was definitely an experience. GM Place is half full of Leafs fans and the Canucks kill off an almost 2 minute 5 on 3 and then score immediately after and then get up to 4-0 at one point. Crazy energy that game. Edit: Never mind, my memory must be going since that was in November. I've been going over to Vancouver so often lately I'm confusing trips.
YourKock'sReallyGreat 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2009 Mike Francessa was talking about Wang threatening to sell the Islanders to a Kansas City group. What are the odds of that happening? What is the whole story? Does it come down to Long Island not willing to build a new stadium?
Prophet of Mike Zagurski 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2009 From what I've heard, Wang wants to finance all of it but he needs the land surrounding the Coliseum in order to build the lighthouse project and the officials there aren't budging. He's probably doing this to make them move faster. I've heard that he's losing money with the Islanders and that he's dedicated to keeping them in Long Island but maybe he's had enough. Matt Young 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2009 Went to my umpteenth Reign game tonight. Zatkoff, who was just sent down from Manchester of the AHL, apparently got injured as he was pulled with a 3-2 lead in the 3rd. The Reign lost 4-3 to the Utah Grizzlies in overtime. Tomorrow, there is a game between the Ontario firemen and the New York firemen before the Reign vs. Grizzlies game. That should be fun. Doubleheader! I'm posting some pics. I won't be posting pics of all the ECHL games I go to, but I figured I'd share these: http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images0...b26a0906621.jpg http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images0...d247c6adad2.jpg http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images0...a2a94625ce3.jpg http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images0...cd583a00ce7.jpg http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images0...cf747fad09e.jpg http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images0...f1aabc64335.jpg http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images0...7907e4876fe.jpg http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images0...96f4292009d.jpg http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images0...fa55b1dc0a0.jpg http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images0...3aab49b8d57.jpg http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images0...248e80e4b8a.jpg http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images0...283e3db4111.jpg http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images0...72757ee48a8.jpg http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images0...985003da261.jpg http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images0...7629832a20e.jpg Free hat I got from a friend from the LetsGoKings forums: Unintentionally looking like a dumb wannabe wigger pimping the Matt Greene jersey and free hat after the game:

Red Baron 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2009 The Oilers traded Mathieu Garon for Danny Sabourin, Ryan Stone and fourth round draft pick for 2011
CanadianGuitarist 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2009 I'm intrigued by this trade. Edmonton had one too many goalies, but I doubt there was a clear number one between Roloson and Garon. Garon was even dubbed as "maybe even better than Theodore" by THN in 2001. I kind of like that. So that makes the order in Edmonton 1) Roloson 2) Sabourin 3) Drouin-Deslauriers? That's asking alot out of Roloson, who had a vastly different team in front of him three years ago. Also, is there a better name in the NHL right now than Cal Clutterbuck? Verne Fiddler has to be close.
Matt Young 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2009 A bad week, results wise, for me personally continues as the Kings lose a very exciting shootout decision to Dallas, 3-2. The Kings lost 5-0 last saturday vs. New Jersey, Monday when I went to see them play Tampa bay, 4-0 against Detroit on Thursday, and now this. The Reignlost last night 4-3 in OT, though they did win on the road in Phoenix on Wednesday. But the FDNY vs. Ontario Fire Department game today should be fun, and hopefully the reign can split their back to back with Utah.

the max 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2009 Wild matinee game with the Blues and Broons today. Blues were up 2-1 for most of the second and third before the Bruins scored three goals in under 2:00 to go up 4-2. The Blues pulled the goalie on a powerplay got one with a little over a minute to go. They scored by batting one in with 1.4 seconds remaining in regulation. They're in OT now. Just a wild, wild game.
