Today is West Memphis Three Awareness Day, on the 14th anniversary of their arrest. Shortly after three eight-year-old boys were found mutilated and murdered in West Memphis, Arkansas, local newspapers stated the killers had been caught. The police assured the public that the three teenagers in custody were definitely responsible for these horrible crimes. Evidence? The same police officers coerced an error-filled “confession” from Jessie Misskelley Jr., who is mentally handicapped. They subjected him to 12 hours of questioning without counsel or parental consent, audio-taping only two fragments totaling 46 minutes. Jessie recanted it that evening, but it was too late— Misskelley, Jason Baldwin and Damien Echols were all arrested on June 3, 1993, and convicted of murder in early 1994. Although there was no physical evidence, murder weapon, motive, or connection to the victims, the prosecution pathetically resorted to presenting black hair and clothing, heavy metal t-shirts, and Stephen King novels as proof that the boys were sacrificed in a satanic cult ritual. Unfathomably, Echols was sentenced to death, Baldwin received life without parole, and Misskelley got life plus 40. For over 13 years, The West Memphis Three have been imprisoned for crimes they didn’t commit. Echols waits in solitary confinement for the lethal injection our tax dollars will pay for. They were all condemned by their poverty, incompetent defense, satanic panic and a rush to judgment. But there’s still hope for them, and you can help. http://www.wm3.org/

44, that wide shot of NY threw me off. -
A stretcher match could headline a PPV?

Rodriguez quit the DGA over Sin City, which probably pissed enough people off that Sin City didn't have a chance of getting nominated.

Well, speaking of X-men. She was pretty good in the stuff I've seen her in, I'm looking forward to seeing what her character is.

The new AFI Top 100, coming June 20th on CBS

I don't mind them updating their top 100. There's some great movies that came out since then, and some great ones that were left off the first time 'round that could maybe get added. -

well, one could say the same for the Dollars trilogy, though that's more Italian than Leon is French -

IIRC, Eternal Sunshine was more roundly positively reviewed. Though it might just be that Kaufman was more widely known at that point. -

Call me crazy, but I think Being John Malkovich or Eternal Sunshine might make it. -

I prefer a bottle of regular-type water with one of those Kool-aid Singles in it. And for a second I thought this topic said "50 cent and Vietnam War"

I can just imagine that scene if he'd called Hurley. Jack: We have to go back to the island! Hurley: ....why?
-
Well, it's got me really interested in next season if nothing else.

Think he'll try to sneak Dexter's Laboratory characters in like he does with all his other shows?

lashley honestly bores the hell out of me. hes just a muscle head (no doubt helped along with god knows how much sterioids) with no personality who has boring matches, is awful on the mic...and his head looks like that of a 12 year old glued on to that drugged up body of his. they should rename him snoozefest. Would his finisher be the sleeper?

I saw Martin Freeman in a Faith No More video. Weird.

I thought the creature had Brent Musberger for a leg. Either way the joke still works. You're both right. Now here, have some ice cream.

I loved it. It was definately a top 5 for the year for me. Man, Hugh Jackman had a pretty good year between this and The Prestige. Totally makes up for X-men 3

Really? I tend to hear about Rat Trap more than Up All Night. "Eternal Life" by Jeff Buckley

I always liked the draft lottery, I might consider watching this

I like Akira Kurosawa, Ozu, and the post-Ringu J-horror era. We've got crazy fuck animal torture here, too, ya know.

Wow. Just...wow. I was thinking "that's not so bad, I've seen some of that (the head in the vagina, the cock nailed to wood, etc), but then I read "Bug Eater 2: Cockroach Eating Girl." Half of me really wants to see this, and half of me really hates the other half.
