Look at Europe's projected negative population growth rates in the next few decades, and you might understand why it's important. Frankly, the more I think about it, the more I think the President is on the right side of the gay marriage issue. I'm still sorting through it all in my head, but I'm now tilting towards a constitutional amendment myself.

Well, because we're in the middle of a war. Read a paper. How do you come up with this shit? You said that my "employeers [sic] are a bunch of dirty liars." Since my salary is given to me by the American taxpayer, the conclusion is inevitable. I find this line especially hilarious in light of your blatant flame-baiting of Mike and KKK (among others) in this forum.

I was wondering when it'd turn out that she was a ballerina. By the way, for your next draft, you might want to make a note of the fact that the KGB officially doesn't exist anymore - it hasn't for almost 13 years. If you're trying to be ominous here to foreshadow the hired assassins that you'll have to defeat in hand-to-hand combat to save Natalie's life and win her love, you might want to use the Federalnaya Sluzhba Bezopasnosti instead. Y'know, in order to add credibility* to the story. *hmmmffbwahahaHAHAHAHAHA

Journalists giving money to political campaigns
Firestarter replied to kkktookmybabyaway's topic in Current Events
Paranoia in politics is not a bad thing. Hell, I'm still wondering if Howard Dean might be a Trojan horse for you guys from my party... and if so, why none of the guys told me about it. -
Only if I said anything that resonated with Savage's nutjob opinions. But I haven't, for the very good reason that I loathe the guy. On the other hand, the level of contempt BX expressed for the average American seemed approximately equal to the level of contempt expressed in that editorial, so in his case, I think the comparison was fair. Read "Democrat" as "that editorial's definition of a Democrat" if you like.

Your dad nailed it. "We're going to California! And Texas! And New York! We're going to South Dakota! And Oregon! And Washington! And Michigan! And then we're going to Washington DC to take back the White House! RARRR!" What the fuck was that animal yowl at the end supposed to be? If Howard Dean still wins the nomination I'll recommend to the President that he appoint the Ultimate Warrior as his stand-in for the debates. "YOU WANT THE WHITE HOUSE, YOU COME UP HERE AND TAKE IT LITTLE BOY! YEAH, I'M TALKIN' TO YOU! I'M TALKIN' TO YOU!" "YOU HAVE NO CHANCE WARRIOR! I GOT THE POWER OF THE PEOPLE! I AM THE WEAPON OF MASS DESTRUCTION YOU'RE LOOKIN' FOR!" "BAH GAWD THE WARRIOR HAS THE DEANIAC ON THE ROPES! HE'S ON THE ROPES! HE'S SHAKIN'... HE'S SHAKIN'... BAH GAWD HE'S COMIN' OUT OF THE HEADLOCK! HE'S COMIN' OUT OF THE HEADLOCK! I DON'T BELIEVE IT! WHAT A DEBATE FOLKS! WHAT A DEBATE! AND YOU'RE SEEING IT RIGHT HERE ON EXTREME C-SPAN!"

My employers? You mean the citizens of the United States? Ah yes, you're a Democrat, aren't you? Dean for 18% of America!

7 Teens Killed During Police Car Chase
Firestarter replied to EdwardKnoxII's topic in Current Events
That's more coherent and logical than most of your posts, so I suppose I shouldn't complain. Oh my goodness! A generic "zinger" that saps your target's self-esteem and renders any counterattack or defense useless! CONGRATULATIONS YOU'VE DONE IT AGAIN -
7 Teens Killed During Police Car Chase
Firestarter replied to EdwardKnoxII's topic in Current Events
Translation: "I tried to use someone as a cat's paw but I was flatly contradicted by my intended tool and shown up as a bully and a liar by my intended target. I don't have a substantive response and I don't have the guts to admit I was wrong, so I'm going to pretend I'm so far above this discussion that it's making me dizzy. I will now take my ball and go home to cry." -
He threatened a man's life. His life was taken by the man he threatened. That's not merely justice served, that's immaculate justice served on white linen under silver. A lot of things can justify that. Like, say, an assault with a deadly weapon. Contrary to what liberals believe, execution is an appropriate punishment for many people, and we put far too few criminals to death in this country. While this is true, I don't immediately see how it's relevant. Are you trying to minimise the crime of armed robbery by comparing it to genocide? How were you planning to make that work? John Wayne Gacy didn't kill millions of Jews either, so I suppose he should have been let off with a stern warning. Kill another 5,999,968 people and we'll come down on you like a ton of bricks, buddy... But a public-spirited citizen saved us the expense and the paperwork. More people should follow his excellent example. He pointed a gun at someone. Y'all do that in Texas and one of you is getting killed. Personally, if I were a criminal, I'd move to California. Rob someone there and you'll probably be sentenced to ten hours of community service plus mandatory meetings of Kleptomaniacs Anonymous.

Hilarious. I love this earnest, prissy, holier-than-thou attitude towards "partisan politics" - the idea that a few centuries ago, the entire realm of politics was devoted entirely to the betterment of the nation as a whole and no one would ever have dreamed of advancing a partisan agenda. After all, don't you know, the Founding Fathers prefaced every single point they ever made with something like "I say, I'm most terribly sorry to offer a different view on the matter, old boy, and I do hate to be a bother, but I was rather wondering if we could work out a compromise of sorts, what?" And you picked President Lincoln for your poster boy? President Lincoln?! Honestly, JMA, were you drunk last night or are you really just this godforsakenly ignorant? (We are talking about Abraham Lincoln, right? The 16th President of the United States? There wasn't a, say, President Huey Lincoln somewhere back there, who's escaping my recollection?) Here's what your favourite President said about your favourite party. Enjoy. "I will say now that there is a sentiment in the country contrary to me - a sentiment which holds that slavery is not wrong, and, therefore, it goes for the policy that does not propose dealing with it as a wrong. That policy is the Democratic policy, and that sentiment is the Democratic sentiment." - Abraham Lincoln 10/13/1858

- Jesus is just all right with Dean by Kathleen Parker

What I find most amusing is that Jesus somehow got dragged into this abortive flamewar. I'm still trying to figure out that one.

You tell me. Should Christians, "pretty knowledgable" or otherwise, serve as Yasser Arafat's speechwriters? Jay Nordlinger on Jimmy Carter

But hilarious bullshit, and it hits the mark spectacularly well.

Another article: Truth or Consequences - Can Howard Dean lie his way into the White House? by Brendan Miniter A quick look at the real status of the Pell Grants, and another reference to Howard Dean's "sixth or seventh year" as President of the United States (God forbid). Focus, Mr Dean, focus. Try winning the primaries before assuming you'll be elected and re-elected...
-
A better article: Dean's Undoing? by John Podhoretz Ah yes. I remember the confused look of stunned, directionless anger on his face as the audience, panel, and stage simultaneously erupted in an incredulous burst of "What did he just say?!" laughter. All Dean could do was look around and mutter "What? What?" A good point. Look for Dean to be crucified on this one later in the primaries, and if he wins the nomination anyway, it'll decimate him in the general election.

Good. I though about requesting this step a while ago, but decided against it because it would have resulted in an argument I ultimately wouldn't have given a damn about. The people whose posts I enjoy reading don't change their names at all (TheMikeSC, DrTom, Jobber of the Week, JMA, Agent of Oblivion, &c) and the rest don't matter. But now that you've gone ahead with it, I suggest that you allow no more than one name change per year per person.
-
Do you ever come into this forum to add something substantive to a discussion, or do you just like to flame-bait?
-
How grand. Say, next time you're blithering about "the history of the region," do you mind explaining what the hell you meant when you stated that the entire Middle East has been "just sitting quietly" for the last two hundred years? (They were waiting for President Bush to be elected all that time, I suppose.) I prefer doing the right thing with a clear understanding of the difficulties to the self-serving prophecies of defeat so intrinsic to your empty, easy apathy and cynicism.

Why I think Howard Dean is wrong
Firestarter replied to Jobber of the Week's topic in Current Events
The UN isn't interested in doing the right thing. They never have been. "One year ago, this Security Council was divided between those who wanted to appease Saddam Hussein and those who wanted to hold him accountable. The UN as an organization failed to help rescue the Iraqi people from a murderous tyranny that lasted over 35 years, and today we are unearthing thousands of victims in horrifying testament to that failure... The U.N. must not fail the Iraqi people again... We call upon the members of the United Nations to look beyond their differences over the decision to go to war on Iraq and come together to forge an international consensus... Settling scores with the United States should not be at the cost of helping to bring stability to the Iraqi people. This squabbling over political differences takes a back seat to [iraqis'] daily struggle for security, jobs, basic freedoms and all the rights the U.N. is chartered to uphold... Your help and expertise cannot be effectively delivered from Cyprus or Amman." - Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, 12/16/03 The UN's response? "I think obviously that's an opinion that he's entitled to... I think that the UN has done as much as it can for Iraq and we are prepared to do more. I think this is not time to pin blame and point fingers..." - UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, 12/16/03 Atlanta Journal-Constitution article
