  8. So how much clearer do I have to make it to admin that I am greatly interested in playing a major role in the renovation of the main page?
  9. We already have that player, and are trying to rid ourselves of him (I hope), so why Wilson? Maybe Walker could move to right, Hairston to second. Walker's played the outfield before. Why do it that way and not Hairston in the outfield, Walker at second? Walker's entire outfield experience consists of two innings in a single game last season. Gee, I didn't think of that. thanks al
  10. "please, don't call yourself that" he's taking after his dad I liked "this will be the happiest moment in George Michael's life"
  11. Raise funds for TBA. Kinda like last week, good callbacks, but kind of absurd
  12. Yeah, this forum can trace its lineage all the way back to the Rantsylvania Delphi board, so it's been established in one form or another since 2000 or maybe before, so membership has never been a problem. Oddly enough, the TSM incarnation has outlived all the Scooter-run versions, combined. Go us. Basically, all the Pit has going for it is CE these days. Does it get too right-wing even for me? Yes. But at least that monster developed in a semi-organic process, whereas our New And Better CE here was a result of an edict from the moderators that things would be different, yes sir, this will be a left-leaning folder now. It just ended up being the Mike And Marney Show, it wasn't Jingus's master plan. But yeah, every other folder is outclassed by TSM's respective counterparts, except Comics--nobody wins when it comes to discussing comic books--and the General Chat boards are just what they are, so it's a push. As for trying to spark discussion, it's worth a shot, but there's only so much music discussion that I can squeeze out of LessonInMachismo and his ilk, y'know? Guy walked out of a restaurant because its atmosphere was "too liberal." So yeah, it'd be fun to resuscitate the Pit, but I fear the board has had too many deletions, too many subsequent Slapnuts rallying cries, too many left-wing posters run out of town, too many threads about Leena, and not enough interest in building a solid middle section to bridge The Two Bullshittings of political discussion and general chat. I'd rather waste time trying to build the main page here back up.

  16. More like BLACK EYED PEES!!!!!!! ho ho ho
  17. Well...she pissed herself. EDIT: okay you probably need more info At a festival in San Diego, the Black Eyed Peas were an hour late for their set, when they showed up, they were very trashed, and it showed. At one point during the show, Fergie, very drunk with a very full bladder, pissed her pants on stage.
  18. Amnesiac's anti-sequencing works because the album is meant to be the antithesis of Kid A; instead of telling a story start to finish, it's just like short little bursts of memories flashing back with no rhyme or reason. That said, I've browsed the backs of a few newer releases, and too many of them have the single as the leadoff track, and then, ostensibly, the songs get weaker as it goes on. That's not an album, that's a really long single. I'm not saying no album can ever put Track 1 out as the single, ever, but at least make them wait a few songs. EDIT: I'm surprised punk bands opt for 7" vinyl citing expenses. I would think that CDs would be much cheaper to mass-produce than vinyl.
  19. If you're referring to the Sosa trade, didn't you guys get a decent haul from that? I mean, regardless of what Hairston & Fontenot did, you didn't have to watch Sosa bat .221/.295/.376 in Wrigley this year, did you? Hairston sat on the bench a lot, and Fontenot was up for like two weeks and now he's struggling to make the 40-man, I think. I never understood why Jerry was on the bench. He kept getting a lot of extra base hits when Dusty got off his ass and gave him a start. Hell, stick him in left field this season with Pierre in center and figure out who the fuck to put in right field. I'd say Murton, but he seems like more of a singles/average hitter. We need a power bat in right
  20. http://www.balaams-ass.com/journal/homemake/lewisale.htm When Edmund meets the "White Witch" she gives him first a strange drink, as described previously. She then asks him what he would like best to eat, and to his reply, makes him a box of Turkish Delight by means of her magic. Lewis portrays "Edmund" as eating this greedily, and the more he eats the more he wants it. In other words, he becomes addicted. This is explained in that the witch (or "Queen") knows that the Turkish Delight is "enchanted" and that once a person has tasted it, they will want more and more of it and if allowed to would eat themselves to death. She promises "Edmund" all the Turkish Delight he can eat for the rest of his life if he will bring his sibling to her, and he leaves after begging for just one more piece. (p.32-36; The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe) Lewis' Turkish Delight is not an enchanted candy from fairyland, though. In the book Marihuana: The First Twelve Thousand Years by Ernest Abel (New York and London, Plenum Press, 1980), we find out where Lewis got his "inspiration" for "enchanted" Turkish Delight. "As in India, local officials in Egypt were alarmed at the large numbers of inhabitants who used hashish directly or in confections, many of which were exported to Europe. Among the variety of confectionery treats containing hashish that were sent abroad were 'Turkish Delight,' square pieces of hashish containing sugar and gelatin which were a particular favorite of the students at Cambridge University in England.(p. 133.) "It was not that the English were above using drugs that altered consciousness, but rather that they were more content with alcohol, and saw little need to experiment with mind-altering drugs. Those who did were either members of minority groups, artists, writers, criminals, or students. It was the isolated cases that came to the attention of the press and gave the impression that hashish was rampant in parts of England. "One such case took place in 1886 in the dormitories of staid old Cambridge University. According to a newspaper report, some students had obtained 'Turkish Delight' and not being experienced users of the hashish-laden confection, had taken an overdose and became ill as a result. Oxford also had its share of cannabis users. (pp. 165-166.)"(1) As we shall see further on, Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia are nothing more than a manual of witchcraft for children. What Lewis is doing here is introducing the use of drugs in sorcery. This is commonly used in the Craft. However, the secret meaning here will only be recognized buy the "initiate," so what is the big deal? Simply this, the seed has been planted, and if given the proper attention by the devil's servants, human or otherwise, it can later be developed into something. There are probably quite a few children who would be foolish enough to try "Turkish Delight" or something similar "just like in The Chronicles of Narnia." As a matter of fact, kids have been given drugs in candy. What an "interesting" lesson for the kiddies from Mr. Lewis!!

  24. Here's a main page banner I slapped together in about 45 seconds do something like that, for continuity.
  25. I think after the "i will be check in on it a very day" deletion is when it became clear that it wasn't gonna be the same at a new location. It's always hard to round everyone back up after something like that. Just merge the Pit's CE population back into TSM and restore the old right-slanted Current Events folder from before the numerous "corrections" that the staff tried to implement. None of this "& Historical Discussion" crap.
