  1. Mini Goldust is awesome! Also, it would seem Tony mentioning Benoit was a technical slip up since he's still edited (as is an advertised segment with Flair that was to cover Uncensored results).
  2. I don't think anyone is saying Hogan DIDN'T try and steal Warrior's thunder, but I can't say that watching that as a kid I thought "wow, Hogan sure is being a jerk tonight, ruining Warrior's big title win". cheech: I blame a combination of trying to come up with a witty way of saying Hillbilly while typing a post at work and being constantly interuppted.
  3. Well, the mode with tank turrets on people's heads WAS pretty funny.
  4. I have to agree with cheech. In fact, I think it was only a few years ago (2002 or so, I guess coinciding with Mania 18) when I started hearing Meltzer and the like mention Hogan stealing the spotlight from Warrior as a big political move. A normal observer would just see that as what it was - Hogan handing the belt to the better man and embracing him in a display of friendly sportsmanship. I didn't think Kurt Angle was stealing Brock's thunder by doing essentially the same thing at Mania XIX (though on the other hand, I guess Kurt could have been doing just that since it was at one point supposed to be his last match and chance to main event Mania). I think there is often a problem when it comes to what Joe Observer / Joe Smart analyzes and what John Mark takes in. Yeah, Joe Observer is usually right when he determines that Paul O'Tick is doing something to keep everyone else down through sublte means, but how often does John Mark look at something like that and not just see what is presented on screen and accept it for that and nothing more? When Hill Williams was watching Raw at a bar in Mudlick, Kentucky and saw Goldust put a wig on Goldberg's head, did he laugh at the absurdity or post an angry internet message about how the WWE was making a mockery of the character of Goldberg by not booking him correctly? Again, the people who DID come to that conclusion were absolutely right, but... you know, I'm not really sure what the final point I'm trying to come to is anymore, but it's in there somewhere.
  5. Coliseum Videos cost a small fortune to own a master copy (as did most non-sell through VHS tapes back in a time where you couldn't just buy a movie when it was available for rental) and, at least in my area, by the time the Coliseum tape "Smack Em' Wack'Em" hit the market, most area stores stopped getting new wrestling videos. So yes, you'd basically need to be a tape trader OR someone with access to mid 90s Coliseum Videos.
  6. Heel Jannetty in 1996: IIRC, the announcers started calling him and Leif Cassidy "geeks". Marty and Leif themselves were known as the "New and IMPROVED" Rockers, and since this was at a time where Shawn Michaels was the world champion it was supposed to be seen as a heelish knock on him. HHH/Rock title switches: I have no memory of what the insider sources were saying about it, but a total guess answer would be to inflate their world title numbers (I think at this time, Hogan and Bret were still the only 5 time champs). This is what I remember people I went to school with speculating, anyway.
  7. I still don't have last week's ECW show but the 4 items that were supposed to show up this week (assuming my memory is correct and it was only 4 shows in TV Classics) showed up just after midnight. Cogeco seems on the ball this week.
  8. I read the plot synopsis on wikipedia. It sounds.... interesting, as a comparison to the comics, but I could see it being good on it's own merits.
  9. I don't know if I plan on doing it tonight or tomorrow night, but I'll be writing a MNW report for WO.com. Looking forward to this episode.
  10. Is this one of those movies that is seperate from DCAU continuity and uses a different voice cast? I ask because I'm pretty sure in DCAU continuity, Doomsday already showed up.
  11. Good news, everyone! The Great Khali's translator, Ranjin Singh, has informed WWE.com that the big man will exercise his rematch clause at No Mercy. It will be World Heavyweight Champion Batista vs. Khali in a Punjabi Prison Match.
  12. This guy gets what I'm talking about with the cell phone light issue.
  13. That sounds like the kind of thing that would piss me off. If I joke during a movie, I try to aim for only the person I'm making the joke to to hear it.
  14. I didn't think it was a great "wrestling" show (but I did like the oddly competitive Flair vs Tito match), but damn was it a nostalgic mark out trip. I thought the Funeral Parlour was going to be tops for me, but then Taker HAD HIS MUSIC PLAYED LIVE on the organ. At that moment, I realized this was an awesome show.
  15. Another great Dibiase segment on Prime Time. I anxiously await another.
  16. Texting / looking at a glow in the dark clock is one of those things that really shouldn't bother me, but I've been sitting in the 4th row from the top of a theatre in an aisle seat and I'll get distracted by someone all the way on the other aisle 20 rows down opening their phone. It's just that sudden burst of light.

    Pbone.

And he really hates Shoot Em Up.
  18. Apparently, Rap Cat is a puppet cat featured in several Checkers and Rally's fast-food restaurant commercials created by the New York-based advertising agency Amalgamated. Rap Cat is presented as a reason to visit the left drive-thru, as opposed to the right side. This commercial is generally viewed as a form of absurdist humor. Rap Cat's rapping abilities seem to be limited to meowing rhythmically. In March 2007, Checkers released a Rap Cat music video titled "Meow Meow." A Checkers/Rally's promotion intended to play off the popularity of the Rap Cat spots features cheeseburger meal bags designed to look like the puppet's jersey. By cutting holes in the bag, patrons can ostensibly create their own "Rap Cats" by putting the bag jerseys on their pets and recording the results. Animal rights groups have objected to the concept, citing the potential danger to pet owners inherent in trying to get cats to wear clothing, and arguing that it could amount to animal cruelty.
  19. Looking like the 1st update of October. I think October might be the first ever 6 week schedule (unless they move to November on the 24th). A 6 week month would fir their plan to air Tombstone: History of the Undertaker in 6 parts, though.
  20. Bret Hitman Hart (WF140) 09/29/93 Bret Hart vs. Jerry Lawler 01/12/94 Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels 1990s Bret Hart career highlights 02/01/94 Bret Hart vs. Irwin R. Schyster 08/31/93 Bret Hart vs. Adam Bomb 04/11/94 Bret Hart vs. Kwang 06/13/93 Bret Hart highlights from winning King of the Ring 12/01/93 Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels (steel cage match) 03/20/94 Bret Hart vs. Yokozuna (referee Roddy Piper) (Hart wins WWF World Title) I hope that's the one. Sadly not but I really enjoyed what it really was (sometimes more for the insane commentary team of Heenan, Ross, and Savage - in TWO matches Heenan did crazy rants about tag team match psychology during singles bouts, causing Ross and Savage to lose it. Funny stuff) Matches: Bigelow (Title defense for Coliseum Video - called by Ross/Savage/Heenan despite it being chronologically impossible for Ross and Heenan to call a Bret Hart title defense together outside of Mania IX). Guess which move Bret uses to win? Anyone that's seen the KOTR 93 and Barcelona match probably already knows. Blake Beverly - Absolutely hilarious in how it's booked. The ending barely makes sense. Bret looks like a fool and Blake Beverly of all people is protected. Must be from 1992 because of PTW banners but again, Ross/Heenan/Savage on commentary. Fatu - This is from a 1993 Raw but for some reason they did new (chronologically impossible) commentary with Ross/Heenan/Savage where Heenan continues his running joke about tag matches. Shawn Michaels - and IC title defense called by Monsoon and JR (which is REALLY chronologically impossible). Nothing special, no conclusive ending, but ok. Overall, an entertaining hour. Coming soon: I recap 24/7 shows on WO.com Overall, Bret essentially jobs twice (though one of those is technically a win) on his own tape but
  21. In August, we were having loud talker problems seemingly every show. The worst was a group of people during Rush Hour 3 who felt that it was ok to have conversations with each other - not whispering, but just ditzy girls asking guys stupid plot questions out loud and them answering, or whatever dumb things they began discussing - during dialogue scenes, but being quiet during scenes where the music would have drowned them out. Before Halloween, we specifically looked for seats that had no one above them (which wasn't hard since this was the first Tuesday in September so kids had gone back to school... and it was Halloween). Well, wouldn't you know, some noisy people walk in during the beginning of the movie (another peeve of mine - learn to read showtimes and account for travel time, people) and immediately begin annoying our group by talking in, excuse what may be perceived as stereotyping, "black woman speak" ("EX-cuse me! We gonna sit here, you gots a problem with that? Didna think so" - apparently the people two rows up had their feet on the seats) and the talking was fairly constant with the guys they were with. They were told to be quiet a few times and eventually complied. I'm not sure if it's just a light sensitivity issue with me (one of my friends agrees with me, another was actually guilty of doing this albeit only during trailers) but people sending text messages on their phone to avoid talking on it is just as annoying to me. It causes a light source to emit from somewhere that should be dark and I find it really distracting. Just shut your f***ing phones off, people. I remember some woman kept opening her cell phone during Die Hard and it was driving me nuts.

    Pbone.

Here's something to think about. Is it pronounced "puh-bone" (as I usually read it) or "P B One", as in "Previously Banned One". Mysterious.
  23. I want some 3 Count Bout action.
  24. "1993’s WCW Japan Supershow III" says SKeith's review of the bout (****1/4, btw, which is funny given you review... look forward to watching it myself later). Heenan's call for the Mountie pinning Von Erich was tremendous. "He's so tall he got his legs caught up in the ropes", followed by Monsoon yelling at him to shut up. Well done. FUNERAL PARLOUR! Loving it.
  25. Mountie calling Kerry "Kevin Von Erich" amused me.
