I'm attending a RAW house show @ Rupp Arena tomorrow evening in Lexington, Kentucky. Here is the card they have for the show: WWE Title: John Cena vs. Edge Shawn Michaels vs. HHH (w/Flair) Shelton Benjamin vs. Carlito Big Show vs. Snitsky Hurricane & Rosey vs. The Heart Throbs Christy Hemme vs. Victoria Tajiri vs. Chris Masters Viscera vs. Rob Conway I imagine that the Michaels-HHH match will get changed since both men are heels and that match wouldn't make much sense. However, I don't see right now who they may plug in because I don't really think Hogan would be doing the house show circuit @ this stage in his career. Also, it doesn't look like a highly impressive card but I've never attended a WWE show in my life (attended two WCW ones with one being a Thunder taping that happened about six years ago) so I figure this will at least attempt to be entertaining. I'll try to provide a recap if I can later.

Well even if Roe v. Wade was overturned it wouldn't necessarily make abortion illegal, that issue would just go back to the states. I imagine states like California and New York are still going to allow it. Plus, the major push from the religious right (or at least the mainstream of it) is moving away from a total abortion ban, which the public doesn't support. Instead, they are supporting more restrictions on an abortion such as parental notification and a ban on partial birth abortion (which a majority of Americans support). Plus, the religious right is branching themselves into other, more liberal venues such as environmental protection (which they deem "creation care") and debt relief to poor countries.

the one who leaked CIA op's name to Novak was....
Danville_Wrestling replied to bobobrazil1984's topic in Current Events
Well from what I've read about this entire affair there are some questions it has raised in my mind for some things that don't make since. 1: Congressional reports say that Mr. Wilson was NEVER sent by Congress (like he claims) to investigate Niger (not NIGERIA) selling yellow cake uranium to Saddam Hussein. Therefore, this guy's story appears out of whack to begin with because he claims Congress sent him, but Congress claims that wasn't true. He even said Cheney recommended him to go, but Cheney was like "who is this guy" when asked about it later. Also, British intelligence continues to assert they were correct in their Niger reports and that's what Bush cited in the State of the Union speech that drew so much criticism. Now, from my vantage point where the administration SCREWED UP was in recalling their statement on the yellow cake because it basically lent Wilson's story credibility in the eyes of the mainstream press. 2: Wilson had a record before this "leaking" incident of saying that his wife was a CIA operative. Evidently Wilson had disclosed this information before this entire scandal emerged and his wife even posed for him in a magazine (maybe Vanity Fair)? So, if Wilson says his wife name was leaked and she was covert this clearly isn't the type of behavior a CIA agent would be doing to protect their identity. 3: It's been said that Mrs. Wilson isn't even a COVERT CIA operative. From all reports she works @ CIA headquarters, somewhere covert operatives don't want to go near for fear of being found out. 4: This is the biggest thing to me by far. Why is Judith Miller still in jail if we know Karl Rove was the one disclosing information? Was there two sources to this saga? Clearly I think the NYT is stonewalling this investigation because Miller had answers and she's not talking. It appears we have a game where Miller won't talk and the media will blame Rove for it. However, it makes little sense to me to have Judith Miller behind jail racking up "martyr points" if the real source has been disclosed. This leads me to believe Rove is being made out as a big scapegoat in this whole ordeal. Those are just some questions I have about this entire issue. I think Rove won't be fired by Bush b/c Bush is incredibly loyal and Bush doesn't shy away from a fight, regardless of what the issue has to be. Rove has been instrumental in building the GOP's success over the last five years and he's not going to be kicked out of the White House now regardless of how much pressure comes down on him. Plus, with this investigation continuing until a later date I imagine the White House can let the flames die down and then make their move. This is probably why they aren't saying anything at the moment. -
Yea, I've been impressed with Hensby's play recently. Also, you've got many major winners on Tiger's heels right now: Retief Goosen, Vijay Singh, Bob Tway, Fred Couples, etc. However, if Tiger wins this thing by a mile it's not going to be the biggest story in the golf world BECAUSE Michelle Wie is winning her third round match in the US Public Links championship right now 2 up through 8. If she gets to the finals and WINS then she gets an invite to the Masters, which I'm sure the mainstream media will eat up as opposed to another Tiger victory.

Maybe, but considering the wind hasn't been around in force for the last year + today's round it's been a total bore. Also, I don't see how Carnoustie was terrible to watch. Golfers don't have to be making tons of birdies for it to be fun. Plus if we were playing Carnousite we'd be shooting like 120+ and not in the 80s.
-
I'd give you the fact that Tiger has a big advantage when he's in the lead, but his round wasn't stellar on the back nine. He's showed that he doesn't have the kind of shot control he wants as he's ended up in two bunkers (significant since he missed them all in 2000) and was +1 I believe on the back side. Also, Retief Goosen and other quality players like Luke Donald (who is VERY underrated worldwide) lurk in the background. I hate how everyone is saying this tournament is over already, but I don't think we'll make that judgement until at least tomorrow. Predicting how golf tournaments are going to end up after the first round is rather crazy, especially considering how the weather could start doing crazy stuff (wind, rain, etc.) which might help the European players more than the Americans, but who knows. Anyway, I think it's time to RETIRE St. Andrews as a British Open venue. I know that would be unpopular, but everytime it's played at this course I absolutley hate it. It's almost like half of these players are playing a mini golf course with the holes being about 350 yards long (which most can drive to or hit wedges on their second shots). The best venue for an Open in recent memory was Carnoustie where the fairways were only about 15 yards wide, the rough was up to players knees, and there were burns and bunkers everywhere. Sure the winning score was somewhere near +8 after the Van de Velde screw up, but it made for a fun weekend of golf for serious golf fans. I just started watching coverage, though, of the Open this morning (since it's my favorite major) and I'm already bored with this crappy course. Eh!

I know the Clinton's and the Bush's seem like best buddies these days but there is a greater chance of hell freezing over than seeing Bill Clinton be a Supreme Court justice, let along the CHIEF justice.

Great spots from Wrestling Video Games
Danville_Wrestling replied to Rob E Dangerously's topic in Video Games
Well, Glacier vs. Luger IV was booked for SummerSlam in Korea for the Triple Crown title and it was another back and forth match. I tried to take the belt off of Glacier again and was on a roll after Glacier had worked over my arm pretty severely to start the bout. However, when I had Glacier dazed I ran the ropes for a forearm to get the TKO, but suddenly Glacier caught my arm, applied an armbar, and Luger was forced to tap at like 12:15. I guess even Luger can't win the big one in video games, eh? -
Should the U.S. pull out of Iraq immediately?
Danville_Wrestling replied to cbacon's topic in Current Events
The problem is that today Americans don't have the stomach for a war, that's just the brutal truth. We live in an age where fighting a protracted battle for years on end isn't very appealing. However, I think the negative media is finally getting into the poll numbers. We hardly ever hear of anything good our troops are doing there. It's just the same old, death and death and more death. Problem with the invasion in the first place was not sending enough troops. However, we just can't be like "oh sorry we screwed up Iraqis, let's just leave you to fight and kill yourselves." All of that is just simply impossible. Plus, if we do find a link between the London bombings and what is going on in Iraq that is a HUGE mistake b/c that's going to strengthen British resolve to stay there. After all, I don't think the Brits are going to chicken out from a fight like the Spanish. I also don't think my comment about civilian casualties is stupid. I think name calling doesn't get you anywhere in a debate either. What I said is simply grounded in historical fact. Civilians get killed in war, unfortunately, especially if it's fought on their turf. It's not like civilian casualties are a new phenomenon as they've been going on in every war in the history of mankind. -
Should the U.S. pull out of Iraq immediately?

I don't really see the problem of having the terrorists come to fight us in Iraq. After all, isn't it better to fight them in one place than all over the globe. I say that if the terrorists from Syria, Lebannon, Iran, etc. want to come and duke it out with us in Iraq bring 'em on. Also, I think we could easily be squashing this insurgency right now if our damn political leaders would start fighting this thing like a war. Ever since World War II we have abandoned this doctrine of "unconditional surrender" and have fought on purely political terms. Since then, we've seen the Korean War end in a stalemate, Vietnam end in defeat, a pullout from Somalia, a messed up first Gulf War (which is why we had to go into Iraq AGAIN), and now the Iraqi insuregency mess. I say screw international law, screw civilian casualties (they're collateral damage and in WW2 we didn't care we when bombed the crap out of Drezden, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, etc.), and screw this political b.s. Let our troops and military do their job and win this fight and worry less about stupid poll numbers. -

I ran an entire fed on WCW vs. NWO World Tour and I never could beat Glacier on "Hard" Difficulty level after he won the "Triple Crown Championship" from Lex Luger at Fall Brawl. I booked Glacier in a four-way elimination match for "Halloween Havoc" against Lex Luger, Ric Flair, and Firestorm (Glacier in the red outfit) where the only way to be eliminated was by TKO or submission. I controlled Luger and made Firestorm submit to a torture rack, KO'd Flair with the forearm, but Glacier couldn't be finished off. I put Glacier in like five Torture Racks but no submission. I hit him with about 100 forearms off the ropes but he kept getting up and after he hit me with three consecutive Cronik kicks I was done. At "Survival of the Fittest" I booked a tag team elimination match with Glacier/Firestorm vs. Luger/DDP and tried to beat Glacier again but Glacier KO'd my Luger again after two Cronik kicks after DDP-Firestorm got counted out. Finally, after Luger had lost the King of the Ring PPV in Tokyo to Glacier for the Triple Crown title (seven months time had passed) I booked a final match between Luger/Hannibal vs. Glacier/DDP in a tag elimination match. Stipulation was that if Luger's team won and pinned Glacier he'd get another title shot and if he lost that'd be it. DDP was the first to be eliminated with a TKO forearm, but my Hannibal got eliminated with a Glacier German suplex. Luger and Glacier fought another epic duel and I managed to catch Glacier out of nowhere with a powerslam off the ropes and get a three count. Words can't describe how much celebrating I did after finally getting to pin that man. -
I was just thinking of the same thing myself.

Yea, I absolutley loved this match. I had just got into the WWF around late March 1995 before WrestleMania and was a total mark at that time period. I absolutley hated Jeff Jarrett b/c he'd always manage to scheme his way out of losing the championship and I was totally behind the babyface Michaels. Since this was the first televised Intercontinental championship title switch I was able to see I marked out huge when Michaels superkicked Jarrett and won the match.

I remember in 1997 the ratings for shows were around the 2.5 range.
-
Sweet Jesus. That's like 1997 low.

Yea, those shrinking rosters lead me to believe also that we're headed for a merged roster soon. Funny story above, though, about the dude who isn't answering his phone. That's classic.

I've never felt as angry about several releases in my life. I can't believe the WWE would get rid of a talented performer like Charlie Haas, release Jannetty when he hasn't even been on TV full time, and then release a pregnant Dawn Marie. I think the last release is the biggest pile of horse crap I've ever seen in my life. How Vince can justify kicking a pregnant woman to the curb I have no idea at all. I hope she sues them for wrongful termination and wins a helluva lot of money. Part of me thinks that Vince just wants everyone to lose interest in wrestling period. The crowd crapped all over the last Diva Search but we have to do another one anyway and then we have crap like the humping Viscera and Chris Masters taking up damn TV time. The WWE is just going to hell in a hand basket, that's all there is to it.

For the first time in a long time I actually sat down and watched an LPGA golf tournament, that being the US Women's Open mostly because of all the hype with Annika. Now, though, Annika is five shots back with just one more round to go and Michelle Wie is tied for the lead. I've never actually seen Wie play before but this girl definitely has the game to dominate the women's tour for some time (although I know she wants to play against the men which I'm skeptical about but whatever). She's simply got more shots in her arsenal than anyone else on tour and if she manages to win tomorrow @ the age of 15 it could do more for women's golf than anything in the last several decades IF EVER. What does everyone think?

Poll Finds Dimmer View of Iraq War
Danville_Wrestling replied to NoCalMike's topic in Current Events
Good post Brusier, I agree with you. It's actually part of Osama bin Laden's strategy to resurrect the Crusades. He's said that he has a three-tiered strategy of an Islamic takeover. The first stage sees the jihadis take over the Middle Eastern countries that are in cohots with the U.S. (ex. Saudi Arabia, Jordan, etc.). The second stage sees the jihadis take over European nations with large Islamic populations (ex. Albania, emerging in Germany/France/Netherlands, the Balkans as a whole, etc.). The third stage then sees the jihadis go to war with the United States and defeat it, thus taking over the world. Sounds crazy I know but this is what this guy absolutley believes and we have to stop him ASAP. -
NCLB is terrible funded or not. Abolish the DOE! I think we need to get rid of exit polls period. I knew those exit polls were terrible when they had Kerry only losing Mississippi by three points. Give me a break.

Glenn Robinson. I remember the tangent Stephen A. Smith went on about him during the Western Conference finals and it was hilarious.

Poll Finds Dimmer View of Iraq War
Danville_Wrestling replied to NoCalMike's topic in Current Events
Interesting read, thanks for posting it. I think the author had quite a few good things to say. I get tired of everyone going crazy over pictures from the war or Ted Koppel reading the names of deceased soldiers. If Koppel wants to spend his evening newscast doing it then he has every right to. I think security shouldn't be a partisan issue and disagreed with those that said that John Kerry would make America less safe. However, I think the author's view on the neo-cons was a little misguided. The neo-cons are more a foreign policy wing than a domestic wing and their goal is to rebuild other nations like America. To them foreign policy is a zero sum game with us having people like us and because of those people are like us they will be our allies. I'm not too troubled by the trial by jury arguement b/c I think that foreigners aren't entitled to US legal protection. These people are trying to bring our Constitution down so why should they get Constitutional rights? Now, if someone is an American citizen I think all Constitutional liberties apply to them even if they are suspected of terrorism but I have no problem going "open season" on foreign terrorists. Nevertheless, interesting read. Thanks for posting it. -
No mess for 40 years on Social Security? Hmm...who controlled Congress for those 40 years? Oh! The Democrats! Thanks for proving my point. Heck, Social Security was in trouble by 1978 and was only saved with a payroll tax hike. Education is a mess even with NCLB (which if you remember was supported by the beakon of liberalism himself Ted Kennedy). I'm just wondering why the Democrats won't support vouchers which will help minority children get better educations from their terrible school systems. The big thing is "funding" but we already spend more per capita per pupil then we ever have and it's not getting results. The problem is in putting too many regulations on teachers (coupled with crappy pay), "social promotion", and a lack of parental involvement at home (which no politican can do). I think education should be left to the states period and there should be NO Department of Education. The biggest problem, though, that any teacher will tell you is that politicians on the state & federal level who have NEVER sat for a full day in a regular U.S. classroom love to dream up more regulation to put on the system that it can't sustain. Basically, the above response about vouchers went unresponded too b/c you can't defend not giving minorities (or any child for that matter) better school choice. Voters just didn't vote for the GOP by electoral college. What? Are you trying to tell me that EVERY TIME the GOP wins power it has to cheat? If that's the case then why haven't they been in power FOREVER? Did they just figure out how to fix voting machines starting in 1994? Also, the Electoral College only elects the President and while 2000 was a debacle Al Gore wouldn't have won anyway. All the major news outlets went to FL after the election and did 15 different recounts and Bush won them all. Gore only won on a 16th recount method that he didn't even request. Hey, I'm not saying the GOP is RIGHT about any of their policies. I'm just saying that they are the only ones with ideas right now. They maybe terrible ones but at least their giving voters alternatives and until the Dems give people ideas of their own their going to keep going down in defeat.

I consider myself a conservative independent and my voting was all over the place in the last election. I voted Nader for president, a Democrat to Senate (didn't win, Jim Bunning won in KY instead), and a Libertarian for House. My big problem with the Democratic Party is that they aren't listening to what Americans want and are digging themselves into a hole defending the status quo. Consider that Social Security is in a mess and they still want to protect it at all costs. Consider that education is a mess but they don't want to push for voucher programs that would actually help minorities. Consider that free trade would help raise the standard of living (long-term) for poorer countries but they are opposing CAFTA simply to turn against Bush. All I want from the Democrats are ALTERNATIVES! I'm not too thrilled with Bush's wild economic policy or the mistakes we've made in Iraq (although I think we have to stay the course now) but at least he's giving us some ideas to talk about. All I see from the Democrats is blocking judicial nominees, blocking John Bolton, STILL claiming illegitimacy in the last presidential election (although Bush won 51% of the vote and own Ohio by over 120,000 votes) and complaining about how Iraq is a "quagmire." I actually would've voted for John Edwards, Joe Lieberman, or Dick Gephardt in the last presidential election but did you think the Democrats gave me that? Hell no, they thought that the boring John Kerry was their guy to win the White House, a guy who flip-flopped in everything imaginable to win the White House. I think the Democrats may have just intentionally sabatoged it so we can get a grand "Clinton restoration" in 2008 and if the GOP doesn't get their crap together Hillary could get elected. I say McCain in 2008 is needed but I fear he won't get his ass out of the primaries. Third parties are giving us some alternatives but the election rules are written by the Dems & the GOP so it's very hard to get candidates on the ballot. Also, it's very tough to compete against other candidates when you don't have necessary funding to confront them and when you can't get into debates because they eliminate you from it. Then you have the perception that voting for a third party is "wasting your vote" which is the biggest crock of shit I've ever heard. Finally, third parties are hurt by voter registration rules that make people register months ahead of time. Heck, when Jesse Ventura won in Minnesota he won in a system where people could register the day of the election and enough young people turned out to give him a victory. Sorry for the rant but the Dems are in bad shape because of their own antics. They need to get away from the far-left and give voters some ideas. Voters may hate the GOP's policies but they voted for them in 2000, 2002, and 2004 and why? Because people love ideas even if they hate the ideas themselves. Obstruction gets you nowhere in politics but a slippery slope to disaster but it doesn't seem that the Dems want to move away from that.

Supreme Court will take your land.
Danville_Wrestling replied to CheesalaIsGood's topic in Current Events
Yea, I was almost certain the CT residents would win this case and wasn't expecting a 5-4 decision on it at all. I'm not necessarily surprised the liberal justices voted on it as they tend to support broader application of government powers (although not always). This is a terrible ruling that is a HUGE dent for property rights in the U.S. I'm not fearing an imminent government takeover of all the land people own but as far as I'm concerned when people buy property it's theirs and the city has no right to take it from them. Anyone remember Poletown in Detroit that got demolished to build a Cadillac plant several decades ago? The factory owners said that it would create over 6,000 jobs when in reality it created only 2,000 and didn't substantially help Detroit's economy. Just sickening in my view. Sometimes I don't know how these judges sleep at night.
