SNL Review (Yes I know it's 2 weeks late)
bob_barron replied to bob_barron's topic in Television & Film
Good review Bob, I just have one beef with it. I understand where your coming from mole. The reason I don't give a summary is because I assume most people who read my review have seen the show and it would take too long for me to write. Top O' The Morning is an Irish talk show hosted by William Fitzpatrick and Patrick Fitzwilliam. (They've heard the jokes so save it! Yea- save it!) Ben Affleck played their cousin named Ronald McDonald and he talked about the St. Paddy's day party he was going to throw. Kenan's really funny. It seems like he's been getting a good amount of airtime recently- which pleases me. They don't seem to give Finesse too much to work with. The last episode was just an exception. I think people hate Ben just because of the overexposure he got with his relationship with J-Lo which isn't really his fault. I think once people forget about Bennifer he will be less hated. -
SNL Review- Ben Affleck/NERD I know this is two weeks late and here’s why: The night of Ben Affleck/NERD I was in Elizabeth, NJ attending a Ring of Honor show. Now the show was awesome, I met Dusty Rhodes and a guy got piledriven off the top of a cage through two tables but I felt a tinge of guilt knowing I would have to miss SNL. But I had someone tape it for me so I figured it was all good. I came home on Monday ready to watch an SNL I’ve heard great things about. Then I found out my friend didn’t tape it. To say I was pissed would be a huge understatement and I let loose a stream of words that contain 4 letters. I’ve only missed one SNL in 8 years and I didn’t want to make it two. I could’ve downloaded it only I lack a computer so that was out. Finally I got a friend in New York to send it to me and it got here yesterday. I missed RAW to watch this (I caught the replay) and now I can finally watch it. (I’m not going to do a sports report since I’ll have way too much ground to cover and there’s another live episode this week to talk about it) Mailbag!!!!!!!!!!!!! Emily Spivey writes- Hey, Maya Rudolph is not ugly. And, by the way, it's a sight for SNL reviews not hockey re-caps. You're boring. CJ Well beauty is a subjective thing and I think Maya Rudolph is pretty ugly and not at all attractive. Calling me on my hockey recaps is quite odd since hockey takes up only a few lines in the review while my actual review of the show is like 3-4 pages long. So don’t worry- my hockey recaps don’t interfere with me going on tangents on how much I love Seth and hate Maya. Wanna be in the mailbag??? Email me at [email protected] And now the actual review… Cold Opening Cast- Ben Affleck, Jimmy Fallon, Rachel Dratch, Amy Poehler, Chris Parnell, Seth Meyers, Horatio Sanz Thoughts- I always like seeing the Bahston Teens even though they haven’t been as funny as they once were. I’d been waiting for them to say something about the Alex Rodriguez trade and I was glad we finally got to see them and I was even happier when this skit was hilarious. I couldn’t stop laughing the minute they panned to Seth and then seeing the reaction on Sully and Denise’s face was too much and I couldn’t stop laughing. I was even in more shock when Seth and Affleck kissed. That’s quite the odd way to get over J-Lo. This was just hilarious and I loved the enthusiastic LFNYISN. ****1/4 Monologue Cast- Affleck Thoughts- Ben Affleck may have been horribly overexposed to the point that it killed his career but I gotta give the guy credit for being able to have a sense of humour about it. He also has a natural charisma and good comedic timing that makes him very funny. And I would so buy a Mary Kate and Ash-fleck shirt. This was very funny and I enjoyed most of the t-shirts. (Even though Ben-Gay was a tad lame) It’s been way too long since we had a good monologue (2 months!) so this made me very happy. ***3/4 Z105 Cast- Affleck. Fallon Thoughts- They just did this skit and there’s no reason to do it again. At least last time they had a good foil in Jessica Simpson to play off of. This time they had nothing to work with. Dueling crazy morning show hosts may sound good on paper (well actually it doesn’t) but the execution sucked. Jimmy’s character simply is not funny. The characters on his morning radio show are not funny either. Ben tried but he couldn’t really get anything out of this either and the part where they kept trying to one-up each other got annoying fast. Please never do this character again. My sanity depends on it. *1/2 Gigli Cast- Affleck, Poehler, Chris Parnell, Fred Armisen Thoughts- My sympathies go with whomever had to watch Gigli to write this skit. Now that’s dedication to your craft. If I ever met Ben Affleck I would ask: When making Gigli did you sense things were going off the rail or was this whole thing a huge shock? I haven’t seen Gigli but I have a feeling people were just out to get Ben and Jen and trashed the movie as a result. Anywho… this had a tremendous premise and was really funny but I just felt it was lacking in spots and the lines could’ve been funnier. The ending was also really flat and awkward. But I shouldn’t be putting down this skit since it was hilarious in spots and Fred was great. Ben’s defence of the title was goldage. Ben yelling at Frondi and the reactions from everyone was also really funny. A very good skit and it was great seeing Ben once again being able to make fun of himself. ***1/2 TV Funhouse Thoughts- I always enjoy hearing that we have a Robert Smigel cartoon to look forward to even though he’s misfired the past few weeks. The Passion of the Dumpty was pretty funny and I loved seeing Mel get interviewed and then clips of the Passion. The big highlight was the George W. Bush campaign ads and it confirms that Smigel’s still got it. I loved the second ad because the cartoon was starting to drag and the Bush ads were a great pick-me-up. Really good stuff and I hope this means Smigel is out of his slump. ***3/4 Appalachian Emergency Room Cast- Affleck, Meyers, Darrell Hammond, Poehler, Parnell, Maya Rudolph, Will Forte, Finesse Mitchell Thoughts- Apparently they did this in the Jennifer Aniston episode but that episode was so forgettable that I don’t even remember it. A quick check reveals that I gave it **3/4 and since it aired at 12:45 am I don’t think they give the skit a lot of time. This time they did give it a lot of time and it was hilarious. Amy was awesome here. Her Southern accent was top-notch and I loved the drawl she used. Parnell and Affleck were also really funny. Affleck and the ferret equals pure awesomeness. I’d love to see this become a recurring character because I think SNL can get a lot of mileage out of this and it’s something they can do with any host. **** Only Bangcock Cast- Meyers Thoughts- I haven’t seen these ads before so I really don’t know what they were spoofing. This was pretty funny though and Seth had me cracking up as usual. It was refreshing to see a commercial that didn’t involve Huggie’s Thongs for once. *** N.E.R.D. Thoughts- I really didn’t know who these guys were but I know they are apparently these big time producers so I expected something really good and I was really disappointed. I do remember Pharrell Williams as the drummer in that horrible Beatles tribute from the Grammys. The song was way too slow paced. I liked the chorus (that’s when it got really good) but the rest of the song was draggy and it sucked. What was the deal with that dancing girl? She looked like she was about to have a wardrobe malfunction at any moment. ** Weekend Update Cast- Tina Fey, Fallon, Rudolph, Hammond, Mitchell Thoughts- I was very happy seeing Tina channel the spirit of Norm by making an OJ joke. And it was a really funny OJ joke at that. So kudos to Tina. I really enjoyed the STDs joke, the joke on Tina and Jimmy meeting (But I still plan to kill you), and Tina’s Martha/Clinton joke. There were a few misfires (Tina’s first Martha Stewart joke, her Bush joke) but other then that it was the usual great WU from a jokes standpoint. Finesse’s commentary was alright even though I’m still not sold on him at all. Maya was also alright but nothing too special. But of course the true highlight was Darrell once again doing his Bill Clinton impression. It’s ALWAYS funny and I never get tired of him doing it. Everything he said had me laughing my ass off (Where’s the impeachment) and this was a perfect way to end WU on a high note. Good jokes and two so-so commentaries but Darrell bringing the awesome as Bill Clinton was the big highlight for the second week in a row. **** Top O’ The Morning Cast- Affleck, Meyers, Fallon, Forte, Sanz, Mitchell, Kenan Thompson Thoughts- YES!!! They brought back Top O’ The Morning! It’s been too long since I got to see this and absence did indeed make the heart go fonder. I thought this one was the best one yet. I also admire Seth for being able to avoid what Ben and Jimmy did and not crack up. Top O’ The Morning seems to always make Seth almost crack up thankfully he’s able to avoid it. Even though I thought this was great I do have one complaint: What happened to the Punching Wall??? I liked Seth’s acknowledgement that the flashbacks were not pre-taped and Kenan and Finesse showing up out of nowhere was hilarious. Ben Affleck held his own here, Forte was funny given his one line and Horatio going straight through the wall was a great way to end it. My only complaint is that this was Kenan’s one skit and come on: The brother deserves more. Great stuff here and I hope we don’t have to wait another 10 months for another Top O’ The Morning. **** Only Bangcock Cast- Affleck, Poehler Thoughts- This one misfired. I laughed at Ben Affleck playing himself but that was about it. * Donnie G and Sidecar Cast- Affleck, Poehler, Sanz, Rudolph, Armisen Thoughts- A pretty funny premise and the bit with Ben getting confused about his right and left was funny and it was so so true. I also laughed at Horatio saying: I’ma ITALIAN! I thought the ending was really weak and I didn’t like that SNL teased us with Fred getting killed again and then just went: Oh- he’s dead. I want to see carnage! This was alright and I like seeing people get hurt so I’ll say: ** Only Bangcock Cast- Kelly Ripa, Affleck, Meyers, Hammond Thoughts- Random Kelly Ripa cameos, killer lizards, Ben Affleck in drag, and Darrell playing an old man? This was very bizarre but it was also pretty funny. Tied with the first for best of the parodies. *** N.E.R.D. Thoughts- Aside from artists who sit on stools my second big pet peeve is when artists plug their albums on SNL. First of all: Being on SNL is supposed to be publicity enough and you’re supposed to be so good that people will go: Hey that guy was really good. I’m definitely going to go buy the CD now. Plugging your CD is just really lame and incredibly shameless. Devoting a whole portion of your song to it is just really sad and pathetic. I actually didn’t even mind the song but the shameless plugging really pissed me off and caused me to lower the rating by a bit. So remember my rules for singing on SNL: Don’t suck, don’t do weird dance moves, don’t be boring, don’t sit on a stool, don’t play a slow song for your second song and don’t plug your album. *1/2 Full Moon Killer Cast- Affleck, Parnell, Poehler, Forte Thoughts- You KNOW you got a kick ass, awesome, excellent show when even the last skit is really funny. Amy and Chris were really funny here and the whole thing was executed perfectly. I loved the thing at the end (“You should’ve seen the look on your face!”). I just wish Will had had a bigger role in the skit since he always shines in weird bizarre skits like this. Good stuff and a good way to end a great show. *** The Bottom Line- Avg. skit was *** making this an easy thumbs up show and one of the best episodes of the year. There were three **** skits here and it only had a few misfires. The show was consistent and everything seemed to be getting laughs. Ben Affleck was a great host and he was very funny and the writing played to his comedic strengths. The musical guest was disappointing and pissed me off but that’s one low point of an otherwise great show. SNL has been on a ROLL since they let go of Jeff Richards and I’m hoping they’ll be able to keep it up in April- especially with the two hosts they picked. After a slow start to begin the season it’s great to see SNL kicking ass again. Thumbs Up

In your sig you link to an outdated NFL Report. This offends me greatly. Please delete it immediately or I will be forced to ask for the vacation of your mod powers. Thank you.

More On TNA Telling Wrestlers Not To Work For ROH
bob_barron replied to BoboBrazil's topic in TNA Wrestling
That joke would work better if Rob was still a part of ROH. I really hope AJ says no to this. He's said on occasion that he prefers ROH to TNA (Gee- can't imagine why) so I hope he sticks to that and tells TNA to fuck off -
Booker and Eddy have fought twice in WWE. They fought on July 7th in the RAW where everything went wrong. The match was really rushed and had a botched finish and neither looked like they wanted to be out there. They fought again on July 28th. It was again too short and a bit slow but it was pretty decent. Hopefully they gave them some time. I also like that they seem to be building up Eddy as a fighting champion. It reminds me of Bret Hart in 1992.

I watched the match a few days ago. Austin spazzing out and just swearing a blue streak when Rock won't die is awesome. My favourite sequence (well one of my favourites since I love the match) is when: Rock goes to chase after Vince and he runs back into the ring right into KICK WHAM STUNNER. I was so sure with this was it, everyone was sure this was it but Rock kicks out at 2.99999. Austin just has this freaked out look on his face. Awesome awesome awesome

Just so you know what you're voting for...

Well there are obviously going to be Iraqi rebels who are going to attack. But the point of that poll is to show that most Iraqis feel their lives have improved from a year ago. -

On a personal level, seven in 10 Iraqis say things overall are going well for them — a result that might surprise outsiders imagining the worst of life in Iraq today. Fifty-six percent say their lives are better now than before the war, compared with 19 percent who say things are worse (23 percent, the same). And the level of personal optimism is extraordinary: Seventy-one percent expect their lives to improve over the next year. (From abcnews.go.com) Is that why he invaded Afghanistan? Cause they just reek of oil. -
Eddy Guerrero, Nunzio and Paul London are WWE wrestlers who worked for ROH. Tajiri is good friends with Rob. I know Steven Richards was at Glory by Honor 2

Al-Qaeda-linked terrorists endorse Bush

I just come to this folder to find out if John Kerry served in Vietnam. Anyone know? -
After reading one of the threads mentioned I think you're perfectly capable of doing that yourself. YOU JUST GOT ZINGED!

Yea- the minute he locked it in me and my friend started chanting that. I'd like to take credit for it...but I won't. No one picked up on my We Want Paul chant during the Cruiser Open. We also chanted Holy Shit when Lesnar locked in the bearhug
-
Good to hear. The whole sequence with Benoit having the crossface locked in, HHH about to tap, powering out only for Benoit to hang on and see the Game tap is something I'll never forget. What a show
-
How loud was the crowd for Brock v. Goldberg and Benoit winning on PPV? For those who were at the show- did HBK get a big pop coming out? I was peeing
-
Okay- Here's my LIVE REPORT!!! Before the show going in I saw Big from TE and Harvey Wippleman. I was seated in section 40 Row L. In front of me were these two kids who were totally cool and was laughing at all of my smart ass comments. I was dissapointed there was no Heat match. The crowd just went insane during America the Beautiful and when the show began. I had goosebumps and it officially sunk in what I was witnessing. Cena v. Show: Match was WAY too long. I really don't see why people act like Big Show is good now. He still seems to suck in my book. Cena was very over and he knew when to make his comebacks and all that so the match had good heat. I thought his rap was good even though him playing to the crowd at the beginning was cheesy. I enjoyed the ending. 4-way: I chanted 'Garrison Cade', 'Let's Go Cade', 'We Want Cade' and all this other stuff and everyone around me was cracking up. No one gave a shit about them- it was sad. I don't know why they didn't just make it Dudleyz v. Book/Rob since La Res and Cade/Jindrak did absolutely nothing. Decent match. Jericho v. Christian: This was really good and I could tell they were trying really really hard and I appreciated it. I hated the ending and the heel turn but the crowd was into it. Really good stuff. Rock-n-Sock v. Evolution: Rock's pre-match promo was awesome. Even though I think Batista is terrible- I really enjoyed this match. Foley's elbow off the apron, Rock and Flair going at it, Flair doing the Flair Elbow- GOLD. The ending was a big letdown for me as I really didn't want to see Foley to job again. I can't believe Rock came back just to job to Evolution. A very well worked match if a bit slow at times. Crowd was really into it. The Hall of Fame thing was very classy. Pete Rose getting booed was funny stuff. Jessie looks really weird. The first ever Playboy interpromotional tag team evening gown match: I went to the bathroom and ran into Hillbilly Jim. Then I called my friend as I promised I'd call her when the first ever Playboy interpromotional tag team evening gown match was on. I came back and the match ended a few seconds later. Cruiserweight open: What was the point of having those guys on there? I would've made it a 6-pac match with Rey, Kidman, Ultimo, Tajiri, Noble and Chavito. These guys were pretty much sent out there to die and I felt bad. Some really nice spots though even though it was poorly booked. Goldberg v. Lesnar: Oh. My. God. I figured it was going to be uhly but I didn't know it was going to be this ugly. The crowd chanted: You Sold Out, Boring, Take it Home, You Both Suck, Austin, This Match Sucks, We Want Bret, We Want Hogan, and refund. This was worse then Jeff Hardy at ROH. Austin looked bored the whole time. It was hilarious watching MSG shit all over both guys and the match. A fan dressed as Hogan was doing Hogan stuff the whole match which distracted everyone. Austin stunning everyone got a huge pop. I really wish I could've heard how JR and King spun this match. Goldberg's entrance SUCKS live. SD! tag titles- I can understand not giving the belts to WGTT since no one gave a shit about the match and no one would give a shit about a title change. Scotty 2 Hotty and Rikishi were booed for the most part. It was sad seeing them get booed doing the post match dance knowing that 4 years ago that got a gigantic pop. Victoria v. Molly- Whatever. Victoria took forever to cut off her hair which pretty much killed the crowd's interest. I feel bad for Molly Holly. She shaved her head and no one cared. Eddy v. Angle- This was excellent. Goldberg v. Brock killed the crowd and this brought them back. The crowd was appreciative of all the matwork and Angle had a lot of fans. The finish was genius. Taker v. Kane- If I actually cared about Old School Undertaker I'd probably be upset but I never got why people wanted Old School Taker back anyway. Taker got a Jesus pop- it was so loud. Paul Bearer coming back was really cool. Thankfully they kept this really short so the crowd didn't figure out that both guys still suck hard. Crowd booed Taker's Last Ride attempt. Benoit v. HBK v. HHH- Oh. My. God. Probably the best match I've ever seen live and certainly the most emotional. I was on Shawn's ass the whole match cracking everyone up and just having a great time. I had about 1000 heart attacks and was on the edge of my seat the whole time. When HBK hit Benoit with Sweet Chin Music I almost renounced my faith in God. When HHH went for the Pedigree I was breathing so heavily and was feeling really queasy. Benoit had that crossface on for what seemed like a year. We kept chanting tap tap tap tap and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. I was so worried HBK would come back in or HHH would counter or something bad would happen. HHH tapping was surreal. The Garden EXPLODED and we just went crazy. I was hugging, high fiving and getting all emotional over what I had seen. The greatest thing I've ever seen at a wrestling show. Matches like that are why I watch wrestling. Eddy and Benoit's family coming out was a really nice touch and I just was amazed at what I was witnessing. God Bless Benoit. Oh and after the show who did I run into???? THE DAMES!~ Dames cried when Benoit won the title and he says hi to everyone. He'll have internet again in a few weeks.

Because they always seem to deliver at Wrestlemania. (Yes- I liked X-8 too) I'm so excited for this show. It's the first Wrestlemania I've ever attended live. I'm missing three days of school during the busiest time of the year to see this show and I think it's totally worth it. I can't wait for Sunday
-
I went back home- had a good time. Saw some comedy shows, stalked some celebrities- same old same old.

Hey! I have a fan! I think I actually did admit the few times that Maya Rudolph made me laugh. The formula for a show is: **.5 and up=thumbs up **.3-**.5=thumbs in the middle **.2 and under= thumbs down And Maya Rudolph simply isn't funny. She doesn't make me laugh. And I think she's incredibly ugly. So when she portrays Charlotte York it makes me sad. The funny thing is: I've actually met Maya Rudolph many times and she has never given me cardiac arrest. I'm glad people are reading though. I don't think Maya deserves to be on the show- there must be a funny woman out there who's better then her.
-
In an interview with PWInsider Gabe repeatedly said that Rob won't make a dime
-
I'm kinda surprised- the show hasn't been getting good reviews and I thought it was great from top to bottom. It's not even like I'm biased towards Colin Firth or something. I'm getting tons of heat for giving ***** to Tim Calhoun- what can I say? I was dying. The skits that they cut sound pretty funny as well. Whenever he makes the stupid joke, does the goofy face and says DIOS MIO it gets me everytime. Glad you're coming around YNA. Maya Rudolph goes almost every show without producing a laugh from me. It's nothing new. I figured Colin would be a good host. I loved him in Bridget Jones, British people are funny and he brought a lot of energy to the show. Dumb joke, funny face, dios mio=laughter. I'm weak what can I say? I think the fact that he's fat is the reason he's employed. I wish he would lose weight and get fired.

SNL Review- Since I’m going to Wrestlemania this week- next week’s review probably won’t be up until Tuesday instead of Monday night. Sports Report- Maple Leafs- I’m very happy about the acquisition of Brian Leetch. As someone who had to put up with the Rangers my whole life (even though their collapse has gone from ‘funny’ to ‘pathetic’) I know that Leetch is a terrific hockey player who busts his ass and will give it all to help his team win- and the Leafs need that. If he brings a Stanley Cup home to Toronto I’ll be willing to forgive his 1994 Conn Smythe Trophy. I’m very happy that Eddie is back because they need him or else they are screwed. The Leafs need to get that second seed. The Devils are dangerous in the first round and as much as I rag on them I wouldn’t want to face Ottawa or Boston either. Here’s hoping Eddie can lead them to victory. Canucks- The Canucks sure do know how to win at the right time. Except for one costly lost at Detroit they’ve been unbeaten in 5 out of their last 6 and are slowly closing in on the slumping Avalanche. The goaltending has really stepped up and the Big Line has been playing great recently. Hopefully by the time you read this they will be in first place. The 2003 Stanley Cup Champion New Jersey Devils- With Boston, Toronto and Ottawa battling it out for the Northeast Trophy- the Devils have fallen by the wayside and are now the 6th seed. Somehow Tampa leaped into first place (“Wrap your minds around that one”- Amy as Avril) so seed #6 is not as desirable as it once was. They seem to be on a bit of a letdown after their three game winning streak and now is not the time for that. I don’t see them catching Philly so they just have to ensure that they don’t fall into the 7th slot. Nets- Well the winning streak had to end sometime. All these losses to Western Conference opposition is starting to bother me since it makes them look weak and casts serious doubts over their ability to hang with the big boys. They can’t let Shaq destroy them like he did yesterday. I guess that’s what Kidney Boy was for. K-Mart has really stepped up his game. I went to the Nets game on the 28th and his caught block was insane. I hope this move to Brooklyn happens because it’s getting pathetic going to Nets games and seeing Joe Piscopo being treated as a big name star. They just need Kidd to get healthy and I think they’ll start rolling again. Not like it really matters- they got the Atlantic division and the #2 seed all sowed up. Mailbag!!!!!!!!!!!!!- Nothing in the mailbag again this week but Sean recently started posting the reviews so I’m hopeful I’ll get some mail in the coming weeks. Wanna be in the mailbag???? Email me at [email protected] To anyone in the Toronto area- I’m going to be participating in my universities Star Search contest in the comedy competition so if anyone wants to come out and see how funny I am (answer: Not very) it’s March 15th at 9 pm at Oakham House in the Ram in the Rye on 63 Gould St. in Toronto. I just hope I still have a voice after going to two Ring of Honor shows and Wrestlemania XX. But if you want to come out and see me bomb on stage- there ya’ go. My incredibly brief thoughts on the Sex and the City finale- Charlotte has a baby. John. I’m happy. This concludes my incredibly brief thoughts on the Sex and the City finale And now the review.... Cold Opening Cast- Ana Gasteyer, Darrell Hammond, Will Forte, Horatio Sanz, Kenan Thompson Thoughts- Nice to see Ana back on SNL and doing her Martha impression that we all know and laugh. Kenan was pretty funny as the juror and I really enjoyed Forte. Horatio’s Rosie O’Donnell impression is just funny the minute you look at him. Darrell’s Ted Koppell is an oldie but a goodie that I always enjoy seeing him bust out. A few of the lines fell flat but this was very funny with a great effort by all involved. ***3/4 Monologue Cast- Colin Firth, Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, Rachel Dratch, Seth Meyers Thoughts- Did we really need to hear Maya doing British theatre in that awful voice? Oh come on- you know I have to pick on her for something. The part where the girls act out British theatre to try to get with Colin wasn’t really that funny but then SETH!~ saved the day with his Hugh Grant impression which has always been one of my favourite things he did. It was the usual hilarious impression even though Hugh doesn’t stutter that much anymore. The interplay between Seth and Colin was cute. This started off slowly but rebounded quite nicely. **1/2 Problems with the Accents Cast- Firth, Chris Parnell, Jimmy Fallon, Poehler, Dratch, Meyers, Finesse Mitchell Thoughts- I guess this is what Cold Mountain would’ve been like had Jude Law shown up drunk to the set. This was pretty funny- I enjoyed Rachel with the megaphone and I thought Colin gave a game performance. Parnell was great as the Chinese guy and he had a great accent. This could’ve been funnier but was very solid and had good effort from everyone. *** Ferecito Cast- Firth, Sanz, Fred Armisen Thoughts- Ferecito is back!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love Ferecito so much. This is meant as a compliment: Fred is great at making bad comedy incredibly funny. Ferecito’s jokes were hilarious and Horatio Sanz even had me laughing. Colin Firth’s bad British humour was also pure awesomeness. When this skit began I thought it was going to be a lame skit where everyone speaks Spanish and no one laughs but I was so happy to see Ferecito back. And when he said “I’m just keeeeeeeeding” it made me very happy. I hope they make this character recurring- it’d been too long since we had some Ferecito goodness. ****1/4 Now for Ferecito’s fanbase I present this review en Espanol- Ferecito está detrás!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Amo Ferecito tanto. **** ¼ TV Funhouse Thoughts- TV Funhouse dissapoints again sadly. Even though I enjoyed the nod to my favourite cartoon ever (Duck Amuck) this was just way too short. Funny- but way too short. And it sort of jumped around. It first looked like a general spoof of FCC Regulations and then turned into a parody of Duck Amuck. I guess I was dissapointed since I wanted Smigel to shock and offend me- and he didn’t. Despite the problems I had with this it was still very very funny and had a good lines and the usual Smigel goodness. I just miss his ****+ cartoons. *** Tim Calhoun Cast- Firth, Forte, Parnell Thoughts- Oh yea! I love Tim Calhoun a lot and it’s one of my favourite recurring commentaries on Weekend Update. Whomever decided to give him his own skit is a genius and deserves a gold star. Forte was ON here and all of his lines were pure gold. “This would be so much better if you didn’t have the tape.” Colin was also really funny here as the lawyer and the part where he was whispering into Calhoun and Calhoun was repeating it right after was hilarious. Parnell also played the straight man to perfection. Will Forte has been feeling it this year as he’s produced great skit after great skit. Even when his stuff doesnt work I just like that he’s not afraid to be different or weird- he just wants to be funny. So kudos to Forte on a great season so far and for having his best skit ever. Now if only he could ditch the Falconer. ***** Norah Jones Thoughts- I like Norah Jones a lot. She’s a good singer and a very nice person. She did win 6 Grammys after all. In one year no less. I slagged her a bit last time she was on SNL because while she was good, she was kinda boring. I really enjoyed her this time around. Her song was a lot of fun to listen to and wasn’t boring at all. The good SNL musical guest streak is at two. ***1/2 Weekend Update Cast- Fallon, Tina Fey, Rudolph, Poehler, Sanz, Dratch, Hammond Thoughts- This was the usual very good Weekend Update but it just wasn’t one of the great WUs that we’ve come to know in life. Two of the commentaries were very weak. Maya’s Martha Stewart thing was just bad. I groaned when I saw that Horatio Sanz would once again be on WU but at least he wasn’t horribly offensive. He just wasn’t that funny. Poor Elijah Wood. He’s a great host and SNL rewards him by having Rachel Dratch impersonate him. Tina and Jimmy seemed to be a bit too loose at times and some of the initial jokes bombed. I always enjoy seeing Darrell bust out his Bill Clinton impression and his analysis of the vice presidential candidates was awesome. It definetley ended WU on a high note. Even though this WU wasn’t as good as the Updates from February I’m glad they gave this one a lot of time instead of cutting it short like they’ve tended to do. Overall this was a good Update that could’ve been fixed with better jokes and less commentaries. ***1/2 Overzealous Staff Cast- Firth, Sanz, Parnell, Meyers, Thompson, Armisen Thoughts- As much as I enjoyed the ending with Seth and Fred in bed this one didn’t really go anywhere and the initial premise wasn’t funny to begin with so this was pretty much DOA. I love Kenan but he’s not going to get a laugh out of me by trying to have gay sex with Colin Firth. Nothing personal though. This just never could get anywhere. * Meet the Press Cast- Hammond, Forte Thoughts- This seemed like it was trying real hard to capture the greatness of the McCain show where he appeared on Meet the Press and was pestered endlessly on whether he would run for president in 2004. Tim Russert: What if President bush does not run? Sen. John McCain: I don't see any reason- Tim Russert: What if he forgets to run? Sen. John McCain: Alright, Tim.. alright, Tim.. Tim Russert: The President forgets to run for re-election.. and the Republicans are without a candidate. Does John McCain then step in to fill that void? Sen. John McCain: I would call the President, and remind him to run. Greatness. I admire the effort but they just couldn’t top it and a lot of Tim Russert’s questions just weren’t very funny. The “negative” ads they showed were alright and both guys did very good impressions but in the end it just wasn’t as funny as I hoped it would be. **1/4 The Sopranos Cast- Firth, Hammond, Poehler, Meyers, Sanz, Forte, Thompson Thoughts- This skit also fell flat even though I thought it had a pretty good premise. I thought Firth was really good as Paulie. Maybe it’s cause I was so tired but nothing was making me laugh here. I did like the part where they watched the Season 4 DVD to try and remember when it happened. When the skit began I thought this was going to be like the Sopranos skit from a long time ago where they played up the critical acclaim the show was getting. This was alright but needed to be a lot funnier. *1/2 Norah Jones Thoughts- This song was good but it suffered from the usual problem I have with the second song. Don’t play a slow soft song with ten minutes left in the show- I don’t want to doze off and miss something. This was a nice song though so I shouldn’t complain too much. I know nothing about the band N.E.R.D- I just hope they don’t suck. **1/2 Jesus Hill Cast- Firth, Rudolph, Forte Thoughts- It’s a shame they put this on at 12:54 because this was hilarious but was just too short. Forte was amazing here and this was so incredibly tasteless that I couldn’t help but laugh. But then it just ended out of nowhere which sucks cause I think this could’ve been great had it been given some actual time. Another great effort by Forte even though he was sadly cut off at the knees. *** The Bottom Line- Avg, skit was *** making this an easy thumbs up episode and the best episode of the season by far. Even though the show went a bit downhill after WU the show was consistent with *** skits up and down the show. Will Forte was amazing here (the guy carried a ***** skit!) and is quickly becoming one of my favourites on the show. If I didn’t love Tina and Seth to death he’d be 1 or 2. It was also good to see Darrell get to bust out some of his better impressions. As apathetic as I am towards Jeff Richards’ firing (it’s not like they fired someone important) I’d have to say that one positive is that my two favourite guys on the show have gotten increased airtime from it and SNL is starting to turn itself around. 4 out of the last 5 shows have been thumbs up so who knows- maybe they can build some momentum. Ben Affleck seems like a funny guy so this week’s show should be good as well. Thumbs Up

Well if this is true then the show at the RexPlex is off which makes me question its validity.
