The US Economy and Current Financial Crisis
NoCalMike replied to Cheech Tremendous's topic in Current Events
For the last eight years it seems Bush's economic plan was to reward the wealthy with tax cuts, and the wealthiest with even more tax cuts, claiming that it would create jobs and be great for the economy. Well after eight years of that philosophy we have an economic crisis. So what do Republicans want to do now? Reward the wealthy with tax cuts, and the wealthiest with more tax cuts.... The saddest part of this is that it seems like the Republicans are still running things with the way this whole thing is playing out. I understand Obama just got into office, and doesn't want to come off like a partisan prick as much as the last administration did but seriously, after eight years of one certain political philosophy and the disaterous results that came of it, it is about time to say enough is enough. I am not even trying to say that everything the Dems want to do in this package is great, but I am not exactly sure what the Republicans are bringing to the table other then, "more corporate tax cuts" -
X-Play did a review for this game on yesterday's episode but I missed it. Gonna DVR the episode today....

I am interested in this game. I might have to snatch it up. Everything I've seen/heard so far has been very positive.

Yes I did pay attention, what I am saying is that "in general" greasing/vasoline-ing a fighter would have an affect, and it seems that people are saying that it wouldn't have mattered anyway, which I disagree with. I am not saying in this particular fight it happened.
-
Well keep in mind two, most ECW's matches were faster paced and built for a different audience then WWF/WCW. If Style's tried to "tell a story" he would be ignoring the action going on in the ring. I don't understand the "all Styles did was call wrestling moves" rant anyway, because it's just not true. I think Styles was different in that he waited for the appropriate times to sell angles & stories, rather then just blabber on the entire match about other things.
-
I believe Greg Jackson's side of the story, however for people to say Greasing wouldn't have mattered, I would argue that, especially with BJ fighting from his back most of the 2nd and 3rd rounds. It would make it significantly harder to hold a tight guard and or work submissions, when someone is all greased up.

Wait so are the Constructicons(who form into Devastator) their own gang, or are they Decepticons?

True, so Manny won titles in the 126-130 division and at 147, so even if you throw out the titles he held in weight division in between, it is still pretty impressive that a guy so tiny could move up and maintain he his speed and power.
-
The HW division might be weak in 2008, but it hasn't been the entire time Fedor has been undefeated. Also, as far as Fedor's strategy for the Arlovsky fight, dude the fight was 36 seconds long. A lot of fighters don't show their cards in the first round. Arlovsky obviously had a good game plan, and he came out executing, but he still ended up KO'd, so an argument could be made that Arlovsky was in the best form he could possibly be, and STILL GOT KTFO.

If the standard for P4P in MMA is the same as in boxing then, GSP is not P4P, yet. In order to that he has to move up and down(down, maybe not so much) in weight classes and get significant wins in order for that distinction. Most boxers in order to even be considered P4P have to have or currently hold titles in multiple weight divisions. Of course in boxing there are a lot more titles to go around, so I guess that comparison is not completely on the level, but scrap the holding of titles part, with merely moving up in weight to take on and beat opponents in the next weight division. Take Pac-Man for example, a lot of experts thought moving up to fight De La Hoya would take away some of his speed, and De La Hoya would be able to brush off his jab, walk through it and take the fight to Manny. Well, NOPE. Pac-Man laid an ass-whooping on the bigger, stronger fighter and to me, THAT is something that makes the case for P4P. To say GSP is the best in his weight division by an overwhelming amount, is not a stretch, but I think to call him best P4P is.

Domination by GSP, my prediction was wrong, but considering BJ was on his back most of the fight, it looked like a flash submission was all he could get. It kind of sucked rooting for Penn as the fight went past the 1st round because it seemed like Penn almost gassed from trying to block GSP's takedown attempts for the entire 1st round. Again, I'm not sure if BJ's cardio was crap or it just took that much out of him trying to fight off a stronger guy for a couple of rounds. Machida is a beast and all his haters can STFU. If you don't like his style then put someone in there that can do something about it. Anyway, bring on my GSP sig......how long do I have to keep it again?
-
Yeah I didn't necessarily mean BJ would sub GSP from his back, I just meant that I think GSP will eventually take BJ down, and after a big struggle back and forth, BJ finds a way to sub GSP, and yeah I know the scenario is not likely, but when you have two great fighters of this calibur, sometimes it takes the unexpected to win the fight. Most people consider Penn a dead man if/when he gets taken down by GSP, so I am just throwing anothr angle in there. Also, is there any chance that GSP is looking past this fight at a possible superfight with Anderson Silva? I mean, personally I don't think that at all, but I have been listening to a lot of media on this fight and it almost seems like for BJ Penn THIS is the defining fight so far in his career, one he HAS TO WIN, but for GSP it is merely another fight and kind of looked at as a fight to set up a superfight.

After watching all three of the primetime specials, I have to say that having commercial breaks really kill the flow of the show. For those that watched the De La Hoya/Mayweather 24/7 it was nice to have the full 30 minutes for each episode. As for my pick in the main event: BJ Penn by submission after getting taken down by GSP, Rnd 3.

Pretty quiet on the Redskins news, however one thing that will be addressed sooner then later is the cornerback situation. From the looks of it, the Redskins are going to offer DeAngelo Hall a handsome contract. This would essentially push either Springs or Rogers to 3rd CB/nickel corner. From the mumbles coming out of the organization it sounds like Springs would be given the starting nod because when healthy, he is still the best corner on the team even at his older age and fragile state. The key phrase is "when healthy" Ever since the Skins picked him up he has been pretty much a lockdown corner when he has played, but he has missed a lot of games due to injury and he makes a lot of money only to be playing half the time. Also at his age a "nagging injury" turns into him missing 6-8 weeks in a row instead of 2-4. With this said, Carlos Rogers is supposedly not happy with the prospect of not being a starter. So, everything is really at a stand-still until DeAngelo Hall is either signed, or told he wants too much money because whether or not he signs with the team probably determines whether Carlos Rogers is a Redskin in 2009. Carlos Rogers is a good cover-corner but he has hands of stone. I have seen at least two times he has had a chance to make game-changing pick-six INTs and they just bounce off his chest(One against Seattle in the playoffs in 2005, and one this season on MNF vs. Steelers). He is still very young though and would probably garner a lot of interest around the league. I guess it would depend on how confident the Skins staff is in their depth. Personally, I'd love to have all three because it would make this secondary deep as hell, with having Smoot as another nickel corner, Horton at SS, and Landry at FS......another year of this secondary together, WOW, but the reality is it probably won't happen.

Republicans are definately setting the tone for how the next 4-8 years are going to be. All reports as of a couple days ago said the bill had bi-partisan support with some "key republicans" having issues with it, next thing you know another closed-door "we have to show our strength" meeting, and suddenly not a single republican supports the bill!?! I don't understand the lobbying for massive tax cuts. Didn't our govt try this exact strategy over the last eight years, the trickle-down redux plan, and it failed miserably. Now the Republicans want Obama to do the same thing.....WHY? -

Damn. RIP. -
So this dumb thing pops up once in awhile claiming to be a PC scan....it does it's fake scan and then requests for me to download "VIRUS SCAN 2009" of course it is all designed to look like something official from Microsoft.....and then when you actually go to download it it says "unknown publisher, publisher cannot be verified" OF COURSE....so I know it is fake and it is more of an annoyance then a hinderance, but I can't seem to find it so I can delete it.....does this type of thing sound familiar to anyone and what is a good tool/utility for finding it and getting rid of it? Thanks. EDIT: I am scanning with McAfee right now, it is a little outdated but hopefully it works.

Becuase it will save the government money in the long run in health care costs and AFDC payments. How do you know the people who think that passed or even took sex ed? Yeah aren't the highest teen pregnancy rates mostly in states along the bible belt........and not in the "heathen" states like CA & NY where sex ed is probably a lot more accepted and prominent. -
Double-Bass pedal expansion will be cool but I heard it only works on the extreme expert level......DAMMIT.

MMA Comments that Don't Warrant a Thread
NoCalMike replied to RavishingRickRudo's topic in Mixed Martial Arts
No Holds Barred with Eddie Goldman is an interesting listen. He is pretty anti-UFC mostly because of the way they do business. He is pretty much an MMA purist and has issues with White and the Fertitas bros. He often can come off as a whiner that just wants to bash UFC cause they are #1 right now, but once you can get past that schtick, he definately makes a lot of good points and is knowledgable about the sport. You can find his podcast on podcastalley.com or on his website. -
Yeah you're gonna be like "whaaaa hahahahahahahahah" as episode 2 of the season closes. I mean you can kinda see it coming...but still.....
-
Well just in case I'm not the only person still watching this show.....we are two episodes into season 3, and this season is setting up all sorts up dramatic stuff........I'll save any details for those who haven't seen the episodes yet, and also until I find out if anyone else is even watching this show besides me.... P.S. It's fucking great!!!

So someone tell me about Killzone 2.......I never played the first one. What is the story? Is this supposed to be some big epic game? Considering it is a PS3 exclusive I hope they are going all out to make this a killer game. Is it a FPS?
-
Yeah wasn't Mike V. in some of Bam's older skate videos beating the shit out of people really for no reason aka "to look cool" ?
