The Old School questions thread

- When and why did the Headshrinkers turn face? Was it the affiliation with Capt. Lou? And how exactly did he join up with the guys?

They really didn't turn babyface until the match with the Quebecars. The Quebecars were such strong heels, the Headshrinkers with Albano were the default babyfaces.

Wasn't there an angle where Captain Lou was coming back and he was going to pick a tag team to manage to take out The Quebecers (the then tag team champs). I vaguely remember The Bushwhackers and The Smoking Gunns being involved in this storylines as teams that Captain Lou might pick. Then he ended picking The Headshrinkers for no reason and thus they became babyfaces.

Am I crazy or did something like this actually happen?

Did Andre The Giant have any clean pinfall losses during his WWF career other than Wrestlemania III against Hogan?

He had plenty to the Warrior. Other than that, nothing else comes to mind.

In the fall of 89, Andre was doing 30-second jobs to Warrior. This was usually immediately after the Rockers / Rougeaus 60-minute marathon matches.

I don't personally remember the details but this is the info I have:

WWF @ Poughkeepsie, NY - Mid-Hudson Civic Center - February 21, 1994

Road to WrestleMania X - 3/13/94: WWF Tag Team Champions the Quebecars defeated Mike Bell & PJ Walker following the Boston Crab / legdrop off the top combo; during the bout, Capt. Lou Albano appeared at ringside to watch the match

WWF @ Poughkeepsie, NY - Mid-Hudson Civic Center - March 21, 1994

Monday Night Raw taping:

3/21/94:

WWF Tag Team Champions the Quebecars (w/ Johnny Polo) defeated the Bushwhackers in a non-title match at 8:44 after Pierre connected with a knee to Butch's back; after the bout, Capt. Lou Albano came out and challenged the champions to face a team of his choosing

3/28/94 - included Cornette conducting an in-ring interview with WWF Tag Team Champions the Quebecars and Johnny Polo in which Capt. Lou Albano came out to interrupt; moments later, Albano went backstage and returned with the Headshrinkers and Afa

Yeah, I remember seeing that on Superstars or something like that. The Quebecers were in the ring (I think having just beaten a couple jobbers) and Captain Lou came out. He might have said something, but then motioned to the back and brought out the Headshrinkers.

I don't remember if they played up that Albano had managed Afa and Sika or not.

I could be wrong, but didn't Killer Kahn beat Andre at one point during their feud? That would've been the very early 1980s.

I vaguely recollect an article in WWF Magazine (maybe it was PWI or something of that ilk) talking about how Captain Lou managed the Wild Samoans and that he saw The Headshrinkers as the Wild Samoans of the 90s.

Man, this is bringing back a lot of memories. 1994 was the first year I started watching...

That was a fantastic match too...probably in my all-time WWE top 20. Bulldog got the win with the victory roll.

Yep, a very underrated match. Davey Boy/Owen = probably my favorite all time WWF tag team.

Re: Albano and The Headshrinkers. I remember that promo pretty well, and when the Headshrinkers came out, The Quebecers protested, stating "these are our friends" (since both teams were heels). Albano got the mic and said "They were MY friends before they were YOUR friends", playing up the past association with the Wild Samoans to turn the 'Shrinkers face.

Hate to make this into a Davey Boy/Owen appreciation thread but I loved the mini feud they had around the time of the European title finals. That was the one instance I remember off the top of my head that I really enjoyed the "two wacky tag team partners who don't get along" angle.

Yeah, the Quebecers were actually pretty over during that time period, considering the WWF tag team division was sort of on the decline at that point.

I loved the Quebecers -- one of the best teams of the early 90s. Johnny Polo was just awesome as the manager, too. I still remember him coming out in a Canadiens jersey with "WE ARE THE QUEBECERS JACQUES AND PIERRE AND I AM JOHNNY" on the back.

Any word on what happened to the Headbangers. Guilty pleasure indeed, and Mosh became Chaz and was D'Lo partner, but anything else?

Mosh wrestles down here in Florida as Chaz. He had a feud in MXPW, a local indy with D-Lo Brown and Norman Smiley. I'm pretty sure he works in Real estate.

Thrasher is retired I think in Maryland.

Thrasher owns a Papa Johns (or Dominoes...Some major pizza chain) in New Jersey.

I remember this because some poster either here or on Wrestling Classics was talking about how Trasher shook some guy down who was going to shortchange him.

They really should make a British Bulldog DVD.

Alas I loved when D'Lo was champ and he hailed from Helsinki, Finland or Riga, Latvia

If this has already been addressed, I'm sorry, but I need to ask.

If HHH hadn't torn his quad in 2001, was there ever any speculation as to what his role in the invasion would have been? How would it have affected the roles of Austin, Angle, etc?

At the time HHH got injured, there weren't any plans for an Invasion. WWF was still working under the assumption that WCW would be its own separate entity. Part of the reason they hotshotted the Invasion angle was due to losing HHH for the year and messing up all their plans. He was supposed to turn face and challenge Austin through the summer.

At Starcade Flair for the Gold during the post match celebration alot of people run into the ring to congratulate the new champion Ric Flair but one person sticks out a very young Jeff Jarrett wearing a Crosby Sweater~, my question is what was JJ's status in the NWA back then?

I would think none, since he was only 16 and his career hadn't yet started. Jerry Jarrett was the promoter for the CWA, which was an NWA territory, so that might be how he could have been in the building.

With WCW still intended to be a seperate promotion, the only major idea I heard for Hunter was for him to be the top star of WCW with everything built around him.

A couple of years ago at least I saw some of a documentary. I want to say the WWE's California developmental territory was featured. I remember it because the talent was excited for a show but go to it and the boss told them there were only about 10 people in the crowd. I think it was at an amusement park. Does anybody know some of the talent there at the time and who those 10 fans got to see that few others did around that time. Maybe Cena?

I never, ever heard that. All I ever heard at that time was that the new WCW was to be centered around Booker T, Diamond Dallas Page, Buff Bagwell, & Rob Van Dam with Joey Styles & Jerry Lawler as the announce team.

If I recall correctly, the reason he joined up with Austin the night after WM 17 is because he didn't want to turn face and feud with him.

I need to go see him, where is it located exactly in NJ?

I wish I had the old headbangers shirt.

I used to like the team for some unkown reason. too bad they were essentially jobbers for most of their run, despite the one month push and title reign

You could tell they were heading that direction though. First, Triple H teases a face turn the night after Mania. Then Austin accidentally costs him the IC title at Judgment Day yet Trips still helps him beat Taker later in the night. Then they lose the tag belts, which at that point was one of the few things keeping them together.

Sort of. They wanted to avoid the inevitable HHH-Austin match right after Mania and save it for Summerslam or Mania 18. The Two Man Power Trip was established to keep HHH in the spotlight as a heel and build heat for an eventual showdown. It was a bad move though to put things off. Austin needed a foil after Rock left and HHH was perfect for the role. Too bad they went with Kane and Taker, who killed the company's momentum dead within one month.

I don't know. I thought the Two Man Power Trip was an interesting concept. They had Jericho and Benoit as foils. Too bad Triple H tore his quad in that RAW tag match.
