BruteSquad_BRODY 0 Report post Posted December 14, 2008 Yeah, I remember on Superstars they would show Slaughter coming out and "taking notes" on the referees and stuff. One of those lame angles that the fans were never really going to get into. I marked out when Harvey Whippleman spent weeks taking notes on the refs jobs, then Gorilla Monsoon was so impressed he made Harvey a ref, Harvey turns to the camera - mouth agape - yes I marked out. Papacita 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2008 I'm watching an old Raw from 1996 where Ahmed Johnson wins a battle royal to face the WWF Champion after SummerSlam. I was really intrigued by this move back in the day, since I was an Ahmed mark, but I really couldn't see him going over Shawn, or even facing him. Of course, Ahmed ended up getting injured, so the match had to be scrapped. Now as we know, Shawn defended the belt against Vader at that year's SummerSlam, and it's been rumored for the longest that Vader was supposed to go over, but that decision got overturned, supposedly due to a tantrum from Shawn. But is there any word what kind of impact Ahmed's injury had on that match? Ahmed/Vader seems like the much more fitting match based on how they were booked throughout the year, and in their one 1-on-1 match from that year, Vader actually ended Ahmed's undefeated streak (I think thanks to Owen Hart). It seems like an obvious move to have Vader beat Shawn and face Ahmed for the title, and I was wondering if Meltzer or anybody ever mentioned anything to this effect. King Kamala 0 Report post Posted January 1, 2009 Been a while since I've asked a question in here but I figure you ladies could help me figure this out. So I was in the 24/7 folder and was reading the thread on the SNME show up there and misread the Crown Match between Jim Duggan and Randy Savage as a casket match. After being amused at the thought of such a match. I wondered; has WWE ever done a casket match that didn't involve The Undertaker? Have any of WWE's past and present competitors (WCW, ECW, TNA) ever done one?
Aero 0 Report post Posted January 1, 2009 WWE had HHH vs. Kane a week after No Mercy 2002, I think. All I remember was HBK returning for his first live appearance since Summerslam. He might have even popped out of the casket... I vaguely remember. There was also that Smackdown in the fall of 1999 where HHH had to compete in gimmick matches against the five other guys in the Six-Pack Challenge at Unforgiven to qualify. He was supposed to face Taker in a Casket match, but Taker refused or something (really an injury that put him out until he returned as BikerTaker), so it ended up as HHH vs. Mideon & Viscera as a handicap casket match... and HHH actually lost. I remember being really shocked at that.

JST 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2009 Vader actually ended Ahmed's undefeated streak (I think thanks to Owen Hart). I believe it was Goldust in a King of the Ring Qualifier. It was Owen Hart, who was doing commentary. He witnessed Jim Cornette being manhandled and ran in to hit Ahmed with his cast. This is when Goldust attempted mouth-to-mouth on Ahmed, and found out what it was like to anger a large black man. He was promptly murdalized for the Intercontinental title at the PPV. PILLS! PILLS! PILLS! 0 Report post Posted January 3, 2009 I think that I once knew this one, but I forget. Therefore, I must ask again: At WrestleMania III, Jesse Ventura was shown escorting Matilda the Bulldog to the back. What was that all about?
MDH257 0 Report post Posted January 3, 2009 Jesse "demanded to introduced to the crowd" and was in the ring while The Harts & Danny Davis were introduced. After The Bulldogs and Tito came out, I guess somebody decided to send her to the back and they just sent her back in the same ring cart that Jesse was riding in. Most of it was edited out of the coliseum video version, I never saw it until the "Championship Edition" DVD.
AntiLeaf33 0 Report post Posted January 3, 2009 Was the WSX title match between Vampiro and Syxx-Pac technically a casket match? I know they did the lame ass, exploding coffin spot at the end, but I don't know if they officially called the match a casket match.

They also did something like that at WrestleMania IV and V, with Jesse up in the stands by the announce booth. The WrestleMania V bit didn't make the Coliseum Video cut, but it was released as a part of the original 13 VHS box set back in 1997.
Richard 0 Report post Posted January 4, 2009 So why doesn't McMahon stop other promotions from using the Doink gimmick? I assume the WWE created it.
Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2009 "Doink" has been used in various indy promotions for years. I mean, ECW even did a take off of it with Bourne Again years ago. I would think that after all this time that WWF/WWE hasn't tried to stop other people from using it, it would basically be a case where they haven't protected their trademark, so anyone is free to book "Doink". Hasbeen2 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2009 I remember PWI in their top 500 officially disqualified all but the WWF Doink from being ranked, there were so many running around.
Chui 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2009 A few years ago I was at a no-name indy show in an Elementary school gym with maybe 70 people there. The main event was some fat heel manager vs. Doink. I tried to get a "Doink's gonna kill you" chant going. It didn't catch on.
King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2009 Okay, I'm watching a Headshrinkers/Nasty Boys match from Raw in what must be 1993. It's got Gorilla and Heenan on commentary, plus some guy who at first sounds like he's doing a dead-on Ron Trongard impersonation but I assume is supposed to be doing a Vince McMahon impersonation. Who? And more importantly, why?
King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2009 Okay, nevermind, I just found it's Rob Bartlett. http://dawrestlingsite.com/wrestling/wwe_2.../raw/031593.php To his credit, he disguised his voice well enough that I didn't know it was him. It didn't sound like Vince McMahon, but hey, you can't have it all.
BruteSquad_BRODY 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2009 How in the heck did the Yukon Lumberjacks, Nord and Norton end up with 'Werewolfs in London" as a theme song. Wow AWA
Richard 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2009 Cause they made wolf noises, I guess. Col. Debeers coming out to "Welcome to the Jungle" is even worse. The Nasty Boys using a Janet Jackson song was pretty bad too.
Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2009 How in the heck did the Yukon Lumberjacks, Nord and Norton end up with 'Werewolfs in London" as a theme song. Wow AWA Yeah, it was because Nord in particular would make that howling sound when he was in the ring. Song choice still didn't make sense, though. I thought Nasty Boys coming out to "Nasty" was pretty hilarious.
Ed Wood Caulfield 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2009 Of course, the worst song choice ever is David Sammartino coming out to "U Can't Touch This" by MC Hammer in the UWF.
tobin 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2009 I've always heard that Big Bossman's WWF Title feud and match with Big Show in late 1999 was a reward from Vince for his loyalty over the years. I never understood this, because Bossman worked WCW from 1993 to 1997. Anyone have a better understanding on why Vince felt so indebted to Bossman?

I never understood this, because Bossman worked WCW from 1993 to 1997. Anyone have a better understanding on why Vince felt so indebted to Bossman? No fucking clue. Even lots more confounding is that I am positive that McMahon/WWE were expecting Traylor to come back to the WWF at the end of 1993, the same same that he went to work for WCW. Gert T 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2009 I am thinking that the WWF was still 50/50 on the Show as World Champion so they threw Boss Man in there, might as well not sacrifice a younger star.
