Ax and Smash did fight the two members of Road Warriors in a tag team cage match at one house show though when Ultimate Warrior no-showed it and Crush was injured. The Road Warriors won the match.

LOD fought Demolition in straight up 2-on-2 tag matches a few dozen times in 90 / 91.

Yes, but it was only the Ax & Smash combo once, right?

If so, was there a televised recording of the match?

I doubt it. I wouldn't put much faith in a random newsboard's FAQ.

BUT, if I'm not mistaken, it was usually a Demo team consisting of Crush that faced the LOD. I've only heard of a single Ax & Smash v LOD match.

Just by browsing my website over the course of 30 seconds, I came across at least 2 instances in which Ax & Smash faced LOD in tag matches.

There were plenty of LOD / Demolition steel cage matches in the fall of 1990 in which the specific participants were not named. Because the cage matches took place prior to the Survivor Series, no one can say with any certainty as to which of the 3 Demos were involved.

I'll have to guess that most of the cage matches featured Crush, since Ax did have that heart problem at the time.

I wish they had a LOD vs. Original...well, semi-original Demolition on tape. Only ones of course were 6 mans including the Ultimate Maniac.

I always wondered why they didn't just trash Demolition after Ax's health problems, considering Crush was as green as grass and Smash & Ax were so good working with each other. It seemed Crush was always in slow motion when in the ring, effecting their matches.

The story (according to Scott Keith) is that it was a 6-Man Match between Ultimate Warrior & LOD and Demolition, but Warrior & Crush no-showed so it was made LOD vs. Ax & Smash. Ax was still around until after Survivor Series anyways, because he wrestled there as a part of the Perfect Team. This is supposed to be the one and only time the original LOD faced the original Demolition. Every other time they faced in a 2on2 tag match it was Smash & Crush.

And we all know how knowledgable Scott Keith is.

The Legion of Doom defeated Demolition Ax & Smash after Crush was sent backstage for interfering earlier in the bout

Ax's last match - at least on TV - was the Survivor Series. He came back to work a few shows during the post WrestleMania VII European tour (teaming with Smash to lose to the Bushwhackers, among other things) but none of that was taped. The only reason I can think why the WWF brought him back for these spot shows was that Crush was hurt. Demolition was all but an afterthought at that point anyway.

I meant Ax & Smash #2 (Darsow). But thanks for the info anyway.

Fun quick side-note that I got from Obsessed with Wrestling:

One of Crush's first matches back after Demolition and when he started the whole Hawaii powerhouse thing was against...The Repo Man!

THE DEMOLITION POWERS...EXPLOOOOOOOOOOOOODE!

I think my favorite Demolition match was against the Hart Foundation at SS 90, but then again I do mark out for the WM V when they take out Mr. Fuji. Another favorite of mine is LOD & Ultimate Warrior Vs. all 3 members of Demolition on SNME which can be seen here.

The La Crosse WI match from that timeframe was Ax/Smash as well.

Well, they sure didn't have the paint schemes down yet, that's for sure.

I wish there were still teams like Demolition around today...face paint wearing, bad ass, tough guys. There are too many teams today that are just a couple guys with a very generic "pretty boy" look.

As far as the outfits...well, it was the '80s. Back then, especially if you were a kid, you didn't really associate the leather tights and gear with gay/S&M lifestyles. There were rock groups like Kiss and Judas Priest (I know, I know...) that wore similar outfits around the same time. I just thought they looked scary, in a cool way when I was a kid.

Btw, maybe this was brought up earlier, but does anyone remember hearing about the "New LOD" that briefly appeared at house shows, featuring Road Warrior Animal and Crush? (This was in 1992, I believe, after Hawk left for Japan and Demolition was dead).

WWF magazine posted rumors in 98ish that Demolition would be returning.

They hinted around it...then a month later Demolition was in the "From Rookies to Legends" portion

IS WWE's magazine still all kayfabe?

Thanks for the links. I just watched the Demos vs Tenryu/Kitao match, and thought it was actually a decent little heavyweight tag match.

Question: Did Tenryu and Kitao go over because WWF had longer term plans to push them, or was it just sort of a political thing beause of their partnership with SWS (I think that was the promotion they were working with)?

Man, reading this thread makes me happy.

I freaking loved Demolition, and even after their heel turn I still liked them, making them the first heels that I broke kayfabe and still liked.

Demolition Backbreaker/Legdrop owns all finishers alive.
