BifEverchad 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2003 Hulk Hogan is reportedly close to signing a deal to wrestle against Masahiro Chono at a big Tokyo Dome show on October 13th. While the deal is not final, today is considered a pivotal day of negotiations, and the deal is likely to be conceived or dropped by the end of the week. It would be Hogan's first appearance wrestling in Japan in almost a decade. credit: wrestlingobserver.com
Ace309 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2003 I'd buy the tape. Hogan seems to put his workboots on when he's overseas, and I'm a Chono mark to begin with.
Guest Dave O'Neill, Journalist Report post Posted September 17, 2003 Now Personally, I dont think anything will happen, because Hogan would refuse to job, but, i read an article ages ago about Inoki trying to make a move into the US, and if he was smart, he'd use Hogan. If Hogan was to do the J-O-B, and then help put together a show in the US for his rematch, with a undercard of the US Guys that NJPW use anyway, it could be great
Internet Warfare 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2003 Chono should shoot on Hogan, I would mark out like a 13 year old to JT.
EL DANDY~! 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2003 At this point, many websites are reporting that INOKI HIMSELF wants in, possibly making this a tag match between himself and Takayama vs. Hogan and Seiji Sakaguchi (who is 64 years old and just recently competed on a New Japan show). This would postpone the obvious IWGP title match between Takayama and Tenzan. Strong Style just reported that Chono has stepped in and wants a singles match with Hogan, and that Hogan is "90% confirmed" for the Tokyo Dome show. Sakaguchi would still like to tag with Hogan, so we might see a Sakaguchi/Hogan vs. Chono/Inoki tag, which would also keep the IWGP Title match intact, as well. It sounds like Ultimate Crush II is gonna be one helluva card the way things are shaping up.
Use Your Illusion 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2003 I'd buy the tape. Hogan seems to put his workboots on when he's overseas, and I'm a Chono mark to begin with. When has Hogan EVER had his workboots on? Both men are broken down and shells of their former self, and for Hogan that isn't saying very much considering he was crap in his prime too. *sigh* UYI
Ace309 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2003 When has Hogan EVER had his workboots on? Both men are broken down and shells of their former self, and for Hogan that isn't saying very much considering he was crap in his prime too. Well, obviously this isn't going to be a technical clinic. It's not supposed to be. Hogan always seems to be unusually motivated in Japan, though - see his 1993 match with Muta and any of his matches with Hansen for reference. I'm not saying they're earth-shattering, but they move Hogan up into the Perfectly Acceptable category. I can see myself being entertained by a spotty, fun match between these two guys provided they don't take themselves too seriously.
Ced 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2003 To his credit, yes, he does seem much more motivated in Japan. Somehow, he remembers how to work a headlock and mat wrestle while in Japan and moves like the cross armbreaker and STF suddenly appear in his moveset. In a match that Dangerous A showed me, he wrestled against Tatsumi Fujinami in 1994 without Hulking Up or using the Big Boot and Legdrop. As was stated early, it was nothing spectacular, but still mind blowing to see him actually working outside of the WWF/E style. But has he ever jobbed to anybody in Japan? He's won all the matches I've seen of him so far. As for the proposed tag match ups, with Sakaguchi, Hogan and Inoki in the fray, I can't help but think of NOAH's old geezer comedy matches. Just saying.

Ace309 0 Report post Posted September 18, 2003 Um... it's the Judo term, used by a lot of the Japanese commentators, for a crucifix armbar or cross armbreaker. Craig "Pitbull" Pittman used it and called it the Code Red. It's an armbar executed by scissoring the upper arm and hyperextending the elbow.
Guest Black Tiger Report post Posted September 18, 2003 Juji-gatame is a cross armbreaker, it's pretty popular in Japan, the move with the victim on his back and the attacker is sitting perpendicular to him and pulling his arm back on the side in a direction the arm isn't meant to bend. The move used to finish Inoki vs Vader on 1/4/96, and Kendo Ka Shin's favorite move in the world. Yes HOGAN did one of those Acutally most wrestlers apply the move incorrectly for the sake of their opponent. In my judo class I've been both the recipient of that and have executed it as well and that move hurts like you wouldn't believe, ditto for the keylock that is usually just used for a rest, when that one is applied you'll tap as fast as you can
Steviekick 0 Report post Posted September 18, 2003 Well thanks everyone...I now know what a juji-gatame is. It still amazes me that Hogan whipped one out while in Japan.
Ace309 0 Report post Posted September 18, 2003 He didn't just apply one, he applied it fromt he standing position and somersaulted to do it. It was quite impressive. Black Tiger makes a very valid point about restholds and the proper applications hurting like hell.

PLAGIARISM! 0 Report post Posted September 18, 2003 If it's a harmless comedy nostalgia match then I actually really want to see it. I'd quite enjoy Takayama beating the shit out of him as well, but either way.
Ace309 0 Report post Posted September 18, 2003 Hmmm... Takayama and Hogan... I can't help but think that'd be fun. Of course, I'm assuming that if he wins, the match will end with him posing to "Real American." I know he didn't use it in his Muta match, but the Japanese fans will understand. Steviekick 0 Report post Posted September 18, 2003 This whole match just sounds very entertaining. That's why I'm so interested.
EL DANDY~! 0 Report post Posted September 18, 2003 For the record, the Takayama/Tenzan IWGP title match is CONFIRMED. This means no Takayama whooping on Hogan. I still think it'll be a tag of some sort. This sounds like a nice card just from these two matches. Me likey.
Dangerous A 0 Report post Posted September 18, 2003 Hogan vs Chono as a match will probrably suck balls, but for the spectacle of it, you won't see a more heated environment. The question is whether Hogan comes out with the red and yellow or black and white getup?
Ace309 0 Report post Posted September 18, 2003 Interesting. Chono was a big player in NWO Japan, wasn't he? I wonder how they'd play the interaction if Hogan wore the NWO duds.
