The one and only California recall thread

Recommended Posts

I figure with tommorrow being a big day and with the whole country actually giving a shit about what's going on inside of Sacramento this side of a Laker game, I figure we should have a OAO.

I believe Schwartzeneggar is ahead, but not by much. Can't say where I'll vote (since there are about 5000 choices) but I know I won't lend my hand to Arnie or Cruz Bustamente. I may even vote no on the recall. At this point, if Larry Flynt gave me a stirring speech, he may get my vote.

I do know that while this recall business was viewed as a circus at first and is now being taken seriously somewhat, the real circus will begin after the recall is over.

Trust me on this one.

I still think it's a good bet that Arnold wins.

Anyone know the over / under?

From what I've heard, the internal polls of the campaigns (which are more accurate than media polls) have Arnold winning by a fairly comfortable margin.

I don't agree with the idea of recalling a governor but...

I still hope Arnold wins. I'm not a fan of the tactics that have been used against Arnold.

"He's a foreigner!"

"He likes Hitler!"

"He's an actor!"

"He treats women like shit!"

Sigh.

Anyway, he has my support (even though I don't live in Cali).

True. They should have concentrated on the fact that he has no experience outside of being a trophy sponsor for some legislation and, judging by his campaign, has no idea what he's doing.

"He's an actor!"
I don't see how this is a bad thing. The greatest president of the 20th Century was an actor and former Governor of California.

I have my doubts about that...

You don't see the Soviet Union around anymore, do ya??

Or the Berlin Wall?

How so?

A lot of people agree he's the guy that set everything in motion for the Soviet Union to fall.

Teddy or FDR? And please explain why. Thanks.

The part of this whole election I've loved most is how Bustamante has just completely dropped out of the picture.

Oh, and Teddy > FDR. And if you don't agree, I'll beat you with my big stick.

Teddy. My reasons:

- first extensive application of the Sherman Act, and making government an arbiter between trusts and unions

- building of the Panama Canal

- introduction of first food safety legislation

- introducing the notion of the United States as international arbiter/policeman through Roosevelt Corollary to Monroe Doctrine

And of course, he won a Nobel Peace Prize after leaving office, but they seem to hand those things out to ex-Presidents like candy.

Fuck this recall, I really feel ashamed about tomorrow.

No on the recall, Yes on Camejo.

I've only lived here since May, but I feel the exact same way.

I think that the people of Russia and Germany deserve a little credit too.

For doing...?

Last night I was watching You-Know-Who on You-Know-What-News and he had a segment on the Calif. election, naturally.

Anyway, they were showing footage of Arnie at a rally and I swear to God I saw Dee Snyder of Twister Sister walk across the screen, microphone in hand, yelling at a crowd of Arnold supporters.

Never thought I'd see that in my lifetime...

So do you think the ACLU is going to try and sue if Arnold wins?

The ACLU doesn't need to sue, because there is already recall plans under way to oust Arnold. Not saying I agree, support, or even care, but I am just relaying the message.

Well Arnold 's campaign theme song is, "we're not gonna take it, anymore" so I am sure he wanted to get the band there live to do it.

Seriously? I didn't know that.

Seeing how Twister Sister has contacted people in the past regarding their music (They didn't want John Rocker to come out to "I Wanna Rock" whenever he made a mound appearance), I can safely assume Arnold has Dee's vote since Snyder and friends would have to give their seal of approval.

Wish the media would report important information like this.

Oh, and here's one of his accusers. You mean to tell me that in HOLLYWOOD Arnold would go after THIS!? I can understand Clinton's choice of women, given the state he lived in, but please...

I'd presonally go with FDR. I mean, popularity doesnt necisarily make you a good or effective president, but none before FDR ever went for so many terms. Plus, he showed a good deal of strength and resiliency through a massive economic crash and a world war.

Of course, I'm sure I'll get lambasted because FDR Introduced the OMG EVIL NEW DEAL, so I'll just leave this as my opinion and go.

OMG EVIL NEW DEAL!

Actually, I admire FDR on many levels. Sure some of the stuff he did was illegal, and many of his programs have been perverted into the money vacuums that they are now.

But damn, he had to deal with WWII and the Depression -- thank God there weren't any polling companies back in those days...

I see the New Deal as a product of the situation the country was in. I mean, FDR was left with a pretty big mess to clean up after Hoover left, and for a solution to a seemingly unending economic slump, I say FDR didnt do too bad of a job trying.

I mean, nearly every bit of New Deal legislation has been perverted and warped now, but it doesnt change FDR's intent.
