slimm44 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2003 The following comes from TheMayhem.com Starting in January, the WWE will make it's next effort to further the brand extention, as WWE Magazine will be renamed to WWE Smackdown! Magazine and will cover only Smackdown superstars, as RAW changes to cover only RAW superstars. Smart move in my opinion. I remember Tazz doing an article about this. It is smart now that Raw and Smackdown are seperated indefinitely with the ppv's and all
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2003 So now the WWE has TWO vanilla magazines only now they are special cause they cover seperate brands. Great....wonderful.... Who do I call about cancelling my RAW subscription?

Guest drdrainoscott Report post Posted October 23, 2003 This blows actually. Raw Magazine was always the magazine for the smarks while WWE Magazine was for the marks. My subscription to Raw ended about 2 years ago, but I remember there being some really good articles in it. Ones that stand out are the issue where they gave the Radicals 10 pages or so to talk about whatever they wanted right after they jumped and another article about how Al Snow had to go through jobber hell to get where he is now. Now they both will most likely be mark magazines.

Guest drdrainoscott Report post Posted October 23, 2003 Seriously, does anyone besides marks even read their mags anymore? Well I stopped considering myself a mark in like 1996 and I had a subscription to Raw from almost when it started till the end of 2001. The only reason why I stopped was because I finally got around to subscribing to the Observer again. And let me tell you, that was the best move I've ever made. geniusMoment 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2003 I would subscribe to raw if and only if pictures of trish's beaver were included in each magazine.
Papacita 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2003 I might pick a Raw up every now and then, but I stopped reading WWE magazine sometime in 2000. Say what you will about Raw, but they do have some pretty good articles in there from time to time, and I hope that they don't suddenly decide to start kayfabing everything. Dangerous A 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2003 Yeah, that'll get everyone to believe we are separate brands. I bet they'll still promo Raw ppv's on SD and SD ppv's on Raw. Wow, what a separate brand. I remember when WWF used to promote Starcade in December for WCW and also remember WCW running ads for WWF whenever Wrestlemania used to come around.... ....oh wait, that NEVER HAPPENED! Again, no one, not even marks believe the product is really split. Look at the numbers. The same fans watch both shows. If there really was an illusion that both brands were separate, one of the shows would've pulled ahead in ratings and buyrates by now. When you adjust the numbers knowing that SD is available in more homes, you'll see that both shows are even. That's because they haven't created a real separate brand. Smarks just don't bitch about SD as much because the roster is heavy with smark favorites, so for smarks it really does seem like a separate promotion. Too bad 98% of the fans still here (aka the Marks) don't believe in the split. WWE hasn't given them any reason to believe that things are different. Both shows have GM's and/or Vince in really high profile roles that are more important than even ME'ers. Both shows have dueling authority figure feuds (Raw=Austin vs Bisch, SD=Vince vs Steph) Until Piper was let go, both shows had talk show segments (Raw=Jericho highlite reel, SD=Piper's pit) and so on. Both shows also have watered down world titles that no one cares about any more. Bottom line: Raw=SD
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2003 Especially when McMahons cross-over on both shows at will... and how they use the same crappy booking for everything they do, and the same crappy format and the same 2 announce team... it's the little things that will make fans believe in the split (ok, they will never actually BELIEVE in the split, but it would at least give each brand distinction). I never read the WWE magazine because it's just an extension of the storylines and thus is junk. I actually enjoyed the RAW magazine because the stories showcased the talent in a "real life" setting. Now both mags will just suck.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2003 Maybe next year after they have a series of split PPVs - they've only had 2 each so far. Speaking of which, the 4 joint PPV's aren't doing anyone any favours in terms of believability. One a year (WM) I can see.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2003 And does the WWE really WANT people believing there are two brands? Hell no, cause some fans would only watch one of the brands and the ratings would tank. Quit the bull, leave the magazines alone. Plus, does anyone really want 20 or 30 stories on Orlando Jordan??? I swear this company is being run by a monkey with a typewriter. Guest Mulatto Heat Report post Posted October 23, 2003 Thing is, they're in a quandary when it comes to the other 3 joint-brand PPVs. They're flagship shows, and there's an uneven number of them, so it seems unfair to have only one brand have a particular one (especially the Rumble), and for one brand to have two while the other has only one. RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2003 Yep, quite the quandry there. Having dual PPV's hurts the split, but not having the "big shows" hurts the buyrate. Long-term, having only 1 dual ppv is best. But we all know the WWE isn't very good at long term.

Torrie Wilson at #15 beating Jim Cornette and Mick Foley, the McMahon family at #1, Austin at #2, and HHH at #3. Was that in the WWE Magazine, or the RAW magazine? I assume you mean the RAW magazine, which pretty much compromises the idea I've gotten from the magazine. In the last few months, they've done an comprehensive study and interview on Kurt Angle's neck injury, as well as the interview they did with Flair, which covered all of his NWA/WCW/WWF World Title reigns. RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2003 My bad, it's... "GM sent this one. You better sit down before reading it or the shock may take you off of your feet! … In the current edition of "WWE Magazine" (to be renamed Smackdown Magazine next month), there is a list of the "20 Most Important and Powerful People in Sports Entertainment" or something along those lines. Four guesses as to who was named #1: THE ENTIRE MCMAHON FAMILY. So they are telling the fans the McMahons are the most important people on the roster. More important than even the top guys on each show. Austin was #2 and HHH #3. Torrie Wilson of all people was #15. I say that because she ranks higher than Jim Cornette and Mick Foley who are also included in the list. -1click

Long-term, having only 1 dual ppv is best. But we all know the WWE isn't very good at long term. Can't do that because you would have an odd number of split PPVs. You need 2. Might as well use Royal Rumble & Wrestlemania, since that's what gets the highest buyrates most of the time anyways.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2003 But the RR and WM are too close together. RR - RAW ** NWO - SMACK WM - Split BL - RAW JD - SMACK VG - RAW SS - SMACK ** UF - RAW NM - SMACK SS - RAW ** AG - SMACK Raw gets both RR and SurSer BUT Smackdown gets SumSlam and NWO which builds toward WM.
