Mik Posted December 2, 2003 Report Posted December 2, 2003 Well, it premiers tonight. The pilot is on at 8 PM, while another episode is on at 8:30 opposite Simple Life. I'll watch the Pilot, watch Simple Life, and we are digitally recording the second episode, so I'll check that out at 9. I think it looks funny. Tracy is funny and the kid looks like he'll be funny for at least a little while before he gets annoying.
Guest Boo_Bradley Posted December 2, 2003 Report Posted December 2, 2003 A black man starring on a non WB,Fox, or UPN channel? Ratings Death.
razazteca Posted December 3, 2003 Report Posted December 3, 2003 The supporting cast looks good but Tracy looks out of place like a not-so-angry Bernie Mack or a fat Chris Rock. Is that Phil LaMarr Jr. as the kid?
Guest Waldo Posted December 3, 2003 Report Posted December 3, 2003 unfunny joke :: laugh track :: unfunny joke dealing with black culture :: laugh track :: unfunny joke :: laugh track ::
Mik Posted December 3, 2003 Author Report Posted December 3, 2003 It's decent. Tracy trying to bail his son out because he's only working with "half a box" was pretty funny, and some of the other things got a chuckle out of me. Pretty good for a pilot.
Guest Waldo Posted December 3, 2003 Report Posted December 3, 2003 Alright, I've changed my opinion. I guess an innocent family sitcom isn't all that bad. It's like Cosby 2K4.
Mole Posted December 3, 2003 Report Posted December 3, 2003 A black man starring on a non WB,Fox, or UPN channel? Ratings Death. My Wife and Kids is a pretty good show.
Placebo Effect Posted December 3, 2003 Report Posted December 3, 2003 I turned it off by the time that the second episode came on. If this thing lasts, I'll be shocked. It's just the definition of typical. I did chuckle at the "Only black people would steal air" joke.
Youth N Asia Posted December 3, 2003 Report Posted December 3, 2003 I'm way tired of black/white jokes on black shows. There's nothing good left. Overall it was ok. Nothing great, but not awful...I give it a season.
Guest Just J Posted December 3, 2003 Report Posted December 3, 2003 THe eyeball crack was funny. But I liked the garage scenes best. Heavy D is the man. He is the overweight lover you know.
haVoc Posted December 3, 2003 Report Posted December 3, 2003 I'm way tired of black/white jokes on black shows. There's nothing good left. I think that was played out during the Fresh Prince. They always made white people come off stupid and goofy. If a white cast did that with black people Hell would break loose.
Mecha Mummy Posted December 3, 2003 Report Posted December 3, 2003 It was decent. Not great, but not bad either. I could see it lasting a couple seasons.

I don't see your point.
haVoc Posted December 3, 2003 Report Posted December 3, 2003 I don't know what you're talking about, because I don't watch UPN except for Smackdown. Unless that's what you're talking about? I don't want to turn this into this big racist thing. I always liked the Fresh Prince. Just saying they made white folks lower then the black characters.
Crimson Platypus Posted December 3, 2003 Report Posted December 3, 2003 I tried to like this show, but it just wasn't funny. Most of the punch lines seemed forced to me.

I don't want to turn this into this big racist thing. I always liked the Fresh Prince. Just saying they made white folks lower then the black characters. I was more offended at how Theo was always made to look better than Adam Sandler on the Cosby show....rasicst. I mean seriously, what show exist that the MAIN characters don't look better than the one shot, bit part characters. Oh and the Tracey Morgan show...well...his wife on the show is fine to all hell and back but no one else on the show can act...at all... All of the lines just came out like a college film class project. But I will watch the begainning just to oggle the woman playing his wife. Much like I watch the beganing of the Parkers to oggle Jenna Van Oy, the begganing of Girlfriends to stare at...well...all of them, and the beginning of the Hugleys reruns to see his wife on that show. So combined, black sitcoms get about 45 seconds of viewing time from me a week.
NoCalMike Posted December 3, 2003 Report Posted December 3, 2003 I didn't watch it because from the commercials aired here, it looks to be another family sitcom that is driven by the "wise beyond their years" wisecracking kid(s). I could be wrong, and there could be more depth to the show, but until I hear otherwise, I shall pass.

Yea thats the only reason to watch "The Parkers" so I can peep out Jenna Von Oy and Professor Olgubee's Girlfriends especially the one that was on there in the beginning. "Girlfriends" I like all them accept Ross. I watch black upn shows maybe once a month.
