Guest HungryJack Report post Posted December 5, 2003 Well aside from the fact that it'd be pointless to live in residence when the university is about 15 minutes away from my house, and even MORE pointless to pay ridiculous amounts of cash to move away and go to school.... yes i still live at home . It's CHEAP. Once I'm done school, you can bet i'm outta here, but for now, I'm all about conserving cash. How is that borderline? but yes, people over 22 should probably not live at home. Damaramu 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2003 Yeah I'm 19...OU is right up the highway from me...only a 10 minute drive. It's cheap...very cheap. Free actually. I don't have to pay bills, don't have to buy food, and I get to pretty much do whatever the hell I want. The only rule is really "Don't fucking wake us up." that's the only thing they're strict about. So I don't really see the problem with living with your parents. It's free, my College is only like 15 minutes away and my parents let me do pretty much anything i want, so i see no dire need to move out when i can stay and save up my money instead. Most people who leave to live on their own at 18 end up living in scummy apartment buildings that are robbed a lot, or their parents are so rich they can afford to have them pay their rent. Slayer 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2003 I do live with the folks, but I did live on my own for 3 years, so I have a good grasp on the world of rent and bills and such (I just couldn't live off low wage though). I moved back to finish my education, and hope to move out post-graduation. I've never understood the people that just HAVE to get out of the house as soon as they turn 18. I guess I just had really cool parents that made my life easy. For some reason, US society has accultured us to believe in the stigma of still living with your parents beyond even the age of 18. In plenty of other nations, it's not uncommon to have multiple generations of a family in the same home (I know there are factors behind this, like economics and real estate and such, but still...) Cartman 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2003 I'm 23, I live with my Father, and it's been just the two of us since I was 3 years old. I see no reason to leave, as we keep each other company. My dad is more like my best friend than a parent, so leaving wouldn't do either of us very good right now. I have a good job, I could afford to leave if I wanted, but I don't see the point really. I think most people who wanna move out when they're 18 either have strict parents or they just wanna say they can do whatever they want. Of course, they usually end up in crappy apartments that looked like they've just got robbed (or are about to be robbed). Even when I move on to the University here in the city (go to CC right now), I'll prolly still live here since it's not too far away and not much point in living "on your own" if you don't have to, especially when your parents are lax about what you do. Personally, I think the whole notion of wanting to live on your own or more specifically, live on campus in a dorm or something because you want to "be on your own" is hilarious, because while you've got more responsibilities, in more cases than not, your parents are still footing the bills for you to live there and that. When you're buying all your clothes, meals, perks, and paying all of your bills, then you're on your own. Until then, you're just not living with your parents, and you're in trouble without them. I'm 23, I've been out of college for a couple of years now, but I've been unable to land a steady job for more than 8 months so hence, I'm still at home. I'm moving out the first chance I get. The only reason I'm not on my own yet is because of the fact that I live in the middle of nowhere and have no car, so I haven't been able to keep a job. However, my family's moving to Long Beach in a few weeks, and I'll be moving in with my grandma in Springfield. Once I'm there, I can take a bus to work easily, or even walk depending on where I get a job at, and should easily be able to afford to move out within a few months. Guest stardust Report post Posted December 5, 2003 I don't. Right now, I'm living in the dorms (it's much cheaper than an apartment around here). I am, however, paying for everything. My mom will every now and then randomly put like 20 bucks in my checking account if she knows I need it (since I've been getting all of seven hours a week at work), but she's only done that twice this semester, and once was for my birthday, so that doesn't count.
