Guest wayzing Posted June 30, 2005 Report Posted June 30, 2005 At Glasto I was wearing a labcoat with the lyrics to 'This Town...' on the back and some people not unlike my parents absolutely adored me for it. I finally got a copy of Pulp's This Is Hardcore, along with The Soft Boys' Nextdoorland Laibach's Anthems and The Replacements' Tim. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> "This is Hardcore"? Haven't heard it in ages. I'll listen to it right away to see if I like "The Fear" as much as I did when it came out. I seem to remember it as an underrated album that got forgotten because of a small Jarvis Cocker backlash.

5_moves_of_doom Posted July 22, 2005 Report Posted July 22, 2005 Nice Buckley trifecta. I too bought his first three albums in the span of one week, and I adore them all, but for some reason the TOWER Records nearby carries none of his other albums, and so my chronilogical ventures into the depths of his discography have been put to a screeching halt. And I hear pretty much everything he did up until the last two white-funk albums is great, too. Anyway, how do you think he compares to Jeff? I enjoy Grace on a personal level more than any Tim Buckley album, but Tim is just so prolific, it makes you wonder if Jeff could have done the same thing. I still haven't heard the "Sketches of somethingoranother" Tom Verlaine-produced second-album... thing. So I don't know.

I still haven't heard the "Sketches of somethingoranother" Tom Verlaine-produced second-album... thing. So I don't know. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> As a songwriter, I think Tim was much more complete than Jeff. Jeff did alot of covers in his brief career, which hurts him. Of course, he only had one full album and half of a second one done when he died, so I can't really fault him. As a vocalist, Jeff, I think is king. Tim was incredible as well, with great vibrato, pitch changes and the like, but Jeff's falsetto is untouchable, and I think he had a bit more soul than his old man. I saw both Lorca and Honeyman at the San Francisco TOWER, but I only had so much money, and I couldn't NOT purchase Zappa and Bird. I'm probably going to have to order the rest of Tim's catalogue online due to there only being Circuit City and sam Goody in my area, neither of which has a great selection.

ArkhamGlobe Posted July 26, 2005 Report Posted July 26, 2005 King Crimson - Red I also almost bought Captain Beefheart's Trout Mask Replica, but I didn't have enough money on me to buy both and the store was closing in fifteen minutes, so I went with the Crimson album as that was cheaper. Hopefully I'll have the time to stop by the store tomorrow and pick up the Beefheart album.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted July 27, 2005 Report Posted July 27, 2005 I adore that King Crimson album. No one in the band could even stand one another by that point, and they literally step all over each others toes as subtly as possible while still producing something coherent. From the first track to the last, it sounds like four talented enemies being forced to work with one another. The end result is a very cold album that's incredibly detailed and deliberate. Very different from the other two albums released during their mid 70's plateau of brilliance.
