Matt Young 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2004 A few days ago, I made a decision. Some of you know about how badly the last year of my life has gone from reading my previous posts in LSD, and after doing a lot of thinking, I decided it's time for a change. After living in central Illinois for my entire life, nearly 2 decades... I'm leaving. I've decided to accompany my family to Southern California. I'll be moving to Moreno Valley, which is right near Riverside (where one of my best online friends of 3 years- LJSexay, who posts here sometimes- goes to school. At least I'll have a friend there) and is around an hour's drive from LA, Long Beach (where my stepdad now works) and Anaheim. We have a sweet new $250,000 house with a pool and 2 jucuzzis, which will suit me nicely until I can move out on my own. I really think it'd do me a world of good right now, and besides, if I don't like it, I can always come back at any time. I'll be leaving my girlfriend Kate, some other good friends, and wrestling (although I can train someplace there anyway), but otherwise, there's not much reason to stay here. The movers are coming out here in a few hours, and for the next week, I'll be staying at my grandma's house in Springfield. Thus, I won't have any net access, but I should be able to get online once or twice at my cousin's house. We'll be flying out on Monday morning to LA, and soon after, I should be back online. If I don't get a chance to get online beforehand, I'll see you all then. Wish me luck... or don't. It's time to enter a new chapter of my life, and for the first time in a while, I have hope for the future.

Guest Plushy Al Logan Report post Posted January 21, 2004 Matt, I have a question for you. Will you be attending RCC Moreno Valley anytime soon? Just in case you are wondering why I'm asking this, I have plans to attend this Fall. Right Now, I'm just floating back and forth between MV and L.A. County. If you stand on my roof and you cut down the tree in front of my house, you can see the ocean. I'd cut the tree down myself but its not on my property. Guest DVD Spree Report post Posted January 23, 2004 Matt Young, strangely enough I made the exact same move to California from Illinois. Currently in San Diego. When I finished high school I packed two suitcases and bought a plane ticket to LAX... from Gloucester, England. I had nowhere to live, nowhere to work, and I didn't know a fucking soul. Cali's cool, but that was a fucking scary thing to do at 18.

Sass 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2004 Congrats Matt. As a fellow Californian, I wish you the best and hope that you enjoy your time here. Be sure to hit the beaches in summer and make sure you bring *lots* of sun block. Also, steer clear of Oakland. Just saying.
OldSchoolWrestling 0 Report post Posted January 26, 2004 There are parts of Oakland that are very cultural and nice to see. Then there are the crack infested areas you should stay away from, aka the black hole section at the Raider games.
Guest DVD Spree Report post Posted January 27, 2004 I've got to ask, Jay. Why? Why on earth did you go to England instead of other location in the U.S.? Have you picked up the British accent? What was the transition like? Dames Sorry homeboy, haven't been able to get on with all the board madness... Dames you silly billy, you got it mixed up. I moved to LA FROM England (although I've since moved back), and I'm English. Although it was a challenge KEEPING my British accent, since a lot of Americanisms and colloquialisms started sneaking into my speech patterns. If you're still curious as to why I moved, well, I was having some problems here in the UK and just wanted to get away from all the sheet. There's a couple of hints here - http://forums.thesmartmarks.com/index.php?...opic=48893&st=0 I love the States, and I wanted to go somewhere warm and sunny. Plus I'm into acting, so I wanted to go to acting school. And basically LA's just a cool place. The transition was pretty okay - Eng;and is basically a satellite state anyway, and I've always had a pretty good knowledge of American culture, so it wasn't a culture shock by any means. I made some cool friends and settled in okay, but I remember arriving at the airport with my two suitcases and nowhere to live. I picked up a phone book and started ringing around motels in Sherman Oaks for a free room for a few nights, and then took a $60 cab ride to a Motel 6. I sat down in my little crapbox room and it suddeny dawned on me: I didn't know anyone. I didn't have a car. I didn't even know where there was a grocery store to pick up some dinner. I wanted to call home SOOOO bad, but they had to remove the phone restrictions before I could make an international call, which wouldn't be until the next day. I felt so fucking lonely, I just buried my head in my hands and cried for a while. But then, and I swear to god this is true, I turned on the TV and saw Smack!Down on UPN. We didn't get S!D in the UK at that time, and for a couple of hours my problems didn't seem so bad.

Matt Young 0 Report post Posted January 28, 2004 Thanks for the kind words, everyone. I don't have much time, but I'd like to make a few comments. It was really hard saying goodbye to my friends, but after 12 long hours of travel, I arrived at LAX around 12:30 AM Pacific time last night/this morning. I was so excited... I don't know what it was exactly, but I just felt right at home. I feel like I have a new lease on life, like I'm starting over with a clean slate, and I have an opportunity to make all my dreams come true. I love it here- the people, the area, the weather- all seem wonderful thus far. I feel so at peace with the world sitting by my pool looking out at the mountains. It's beautiful, and it gives me an appreciation for life and desire to live, two things I haven't had a strong sense of for a while. Oh, and to Plushy Al- Yes, I plan on attending Riverside Community College either in the summer or the fall. I'd like to check out UC-Riverside and maybe transfer there after a couple years, but that's a ways off. I'll hopefully get to check out the campus soon though, because I plan on meeting LJSexay as soon as his schedule allows, and I'd damn sure love to go to a party or 2 out there this weekend and meet some more people. Anyway, I have to sign off, but I should ahve my own computer up and running within a day or two and will be back to posting normally (which hopefully will be more enjoyable for you guys to read than my depressed rants of the recent past). Thanks again to all you guys for your encouragement and comments in general. EDIT: And that's #500... nifty.
