Guest MikeSC Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 He never gets the praise for it --- but the past few weeks, Eddy Guerrero has shown that he is REALLY good on the mic. I mean, REAL good. He never really gets the praise he deserves, but I am glad that when given the chance to work the mic recently, he's delivered in droves. -=Mike

It's just that he's sometimes overlooked because he wrestles in the same promotion as the greatest mic workers in the history of wrestling do (Or did at one point in his WWF/WWE tenure). But I can't remember anyone ever saying he's bad on the stick.
Spaceman Spiff Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 If we're going to give out props for mic work, give them to Brock. He's gotten much better as a talker. But, yeah, Eddy's promo tonight was *AWESOME*
Downhome Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 I've always liked Eddy on the mic, but I have NEVER thought of him as a guy who could cut a main event PPV selling promo, untill last week. This week confirmed it.
AndrewTS Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 If we're going to give out props for mic work, give them to Brock. He's gotten much better as a talker. But, yeah, Eddy's promo tonight was *AWESOME* Well, Brock HAD to get better on the mic. Unless he fell on his noggin again, of course. He still sounds a bit odd at times (Money Night Raw).
RavishingRickRudo Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 Missed both of the "big" promos, but does he still say esse and holmes? I just can't get passed those.
Guest Choken One Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 Yes but he's imbedded into his flow that it doesn't distracr you anymore like it once did.
razazteca Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 I've always liked Eddy on the mic, but I have NEVER thought of him as a guy who could cut a main event PPV selling promo, untill last week. This week confirmed it. That is because Eddie in WWE has been the most exaggerated stereotypical character, it was not until recently that he has been able to expand the "Latino Heat" character beyond the silly mamacita lowrider citrus selling mexican.
Michrome Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 Eddy is a fucking god on the mic, always has been.
Vyce Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 Yes but he's imbedded into his flow that it doesn't distracr you anymore like it once did. I have to disagree completely. While I do think tonight's promo was good, I was VERY distracted - and annoyed - by the constant use of "esse", "holmes", and "vato." Eddie gets my respect, but until he drops the retarded Spanglish, he doesn't get my full love for his mic skills.
Guest Choken One Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 I'd take Eddy's Vatos and Esses over HHH's Uh's.
RavishingRickRudo Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 I'm watching the promo right now, and Brock can't just stop saying "Eddie". And I like Brock's promos. He said "Eddie" as much as Eddie said Esse.
Guest Choken One Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 I never took Spanish... What does Vatos mean? The way eddy says it, it sounds like means MAN or something along those lines
RavishingRickRudo Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 Man, Eddie fucking SCHOOLED Brock in that ring on the mic. ...Shame Cole had to ruin it. Fuck, I'm back on the Fuck Cole bandwagon.
Guest Choken One Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 J.R groomed Cole right? and Isn't the new guy being groomed by Cole? How fucking bad will he be?
RavishingRickRudo Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 Well, *remembers Chris Leary*...
Guest Choken One Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 Honestly, I'm shocked since Tough Enough is dead to the world (and thank god for that), they haven't stolen the ESPN "DREAM JOB" concept and have a TV show searching for a new announcer... Surely, It won't go on MTV but I can't see how it wouldn't be a bad addition to have to that new Third block of time they apprently have now, Throw that show with a FTV/Interview show (like Byte This) and we got something.
FroGG_NeaL Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 I never took Spanish... What does Vatos mean? The way eddy says it, it sounds like means MAN or something along those lines Vato is a slang term, it means the same thing as esse, holmes, dude, man, bro, homie, or pretty much any generic word that you would use to adress someone like that.
Guest Brian Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 I've always been giving Eddy credit on the mike, and think that his ability to work a crowd are the primary reasons they should push him, not even factoring in his wrestling ability, experience, and his knack for making everyone he's in with look good.
Guest Suicide King Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 Vatos means "cats," does it not? Just a slang way to refer to your friends. Back in the sixties it was done in english, when you would refer to cool cats and such.
haVoc Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 I'm watching the promo right now, and Brock can't just stop saying "Eddie". And I like Brock's promos. He said "Eddie" as much as Eddie said Esse. I've noticed that before with Brock. He says the person name too much. He does that with everyone, Eddie, Goldberg, Paul (Heyman), Kurt, Big Show, etc. I like Brock's promos, though. At least he acknowledges the person by saying their name instead of brushing them off like another certain world champion. Also, I think Brock/Eddie is going to be really good after seeing them mix it up a little in the ring last night.
Guest Choken One Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 Some might say by repeating Eddy, He's building the guy up in sorts.
RavishingRickRudo Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 I'd say he just is nervous and goes "back" to a "safe" word.
Guest Choken One Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 as long as that said "safe" word isn't "Noggin", I am fine with it
Guest Goodear Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 Vatos means "cats," does it not? Just a slang way to refer to your friends. Back in the sixties it was done in english, when you would refer to cool cats and such. Upon going to an online Spanish to English (and vice versa) dictonary... Cat = Gato Vatos = 'word not found'
Guest Deviant Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 Eddy cut similar "get my life back on track" promos when he was briefly with ROH. Only in ROH, he didn't have to do the accent and "vato", "esse" and other assorted crap. "Eddy" is excellent on the mic. "Eddie" still has that talent, but it's hidden behind the stereotype.

And by the way Brock still sucks at cutting promos, he makes Benoit look like Ric Flair.

I'm buying No Way Out because of it.
Austin3164life Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 Eddy has been a good talker in his career, it's just that a lot of his WWF/E promos have always had the "Mamacita, Latino Heat" fluff. Lately, he's been adding depth and emotion to his promos, and they make for one hell of a segment.

He plays his paranoid and often time weird character quite well. Overall, he probably isn't very good, as I can't really see him ever being able to cut a good face promo, but the improvement is there.
