1234-5678 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2004 Here GUNS N' ROSES Fans Protest Release Of 'Greatest Hits' Collection - Feb. 17, 2004 A number of GUNS N' ROSES fans are protesting the decision by Universal Music to issue a GNR greatest hits album without, what they say is, the approval of the band's lead singer Axl Rose, according to Australia's Undercover News. The irate fans have started an online petition via the GNR fan site Here Today… Gone To Hell!, claiming the album's projected track listing is simply not strong enough and that it contains no new material. According to posts in the online forum discussing the release of the greatest hits package, fans also seem to be under the impression that Universal is responsible for holding up Axl's long-awaited new album, "Chinese Democracy", even though the label had the album publicly listed on their release schedule as far back as September 1999 and had to withdraw the release when Rose failed to deliver the master. Read what the fans have to say about the release at this location. As previously reported, GUNS N' ROSES' "Greatest Hits" CD (view cover here) is scheduled for release in the U.S. on March 23 through Geffen Records. "Greatest Hits", originally due last November before being pulled from the release schedule for reasons that were never clarified, will contain the following track listing: 01. Welcome To The Jungle 02. Live And Let Die 03. Knockin' On Heaven's Door 04. Sweet Child Of Mine 05. November Rain 06. Patience 07. Paradise City 08. Civil War 09. You Could Be Mine 10. Don't Cry (original) 11. Yesterdays 12. Ain't It Fun 13. Since I Don't Have You 14. Sympathy For The Devil

1234-5678 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2004 GNR fans need to realize, that they were just a hair band, that survived a bit longer than the rest. I'll have to disagree. Appetite For Destruction is, overall, probably in the top ten rock albums of all time. Even GNR haters have to admit that. But then again some people hate Led Zeppelin or The Doors too. As far as Chinese Democracy existing........well the crazy old bastard has to have done something in that studio for the past 8 or so years. And with musicians as varied as Moby to Zakk Wylde talking about how great the material is......why would they lie?

Guest Krazy Karter Report post Posted February 17, 2004 GNR fans need to learn that Chinese Democracy NEVER existed. Dizzy said in a Chicago radio interview about a month ago that the album was undergoing "minor vocal tweaking" and that he would have a copy in his hand next time he dropped by the radio station. It exists, but Axl is trying to make the final product live up to "Appetite For Destruction", which is an impossible task. Finck said in December that "70% of the tracks are mindblowing", or something to that effect.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2004 When are GNR fans not pissed off? Besides GnR is like Avril Lavinge. Both pop bands, with that whole "anti" schtick. Riiight. Appetite was NOTHING like any of the 80s metal scene. Not even close. The closest they ever came to hair metal was Axl's look during the Welcome to the Jungle video. UYI 1&2 were even lesslike the shit of the late-80s. Sorry guy, just 'cuz they had long hair and played during the same era doesnt make them hair metal. Christ, thats among the stupidest things Ive heard today. Mike Patton came up in the late 80s with FNM...they rocked...he had long hair...was that hair metal too then? Is Tool a nu-metal band? You know who was hair metal at one point though, and later went on to be one of the greatest and most influential artists of my generation - Layne Staley. 1234-5678 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2004 You know who was hair metal at one point though, and later went on to be one of the greatest and most influential artists of my generation - Layne Staley. A great artist? Yes. Influential? Yes. But he influenced a whole lotta crap like Godsmack, who I liked at one point, but their 2nd album.....POOOOOOOOP. You know what pisses me off? And this is kind of a side topic, but Staley reminded me of it. It pisses me off when just because an artist dies, they are remembered as so much better then they actually were. Take Cobain. If he wouldn't have died, there is no way he would be as worshipped as he is now. The only thing Axl did wrong was live. If he died instead of Cobain, there would be a whole lot more people hanging off of hit nuts instead of Kurt's.

I'm sure not only will we gets a hits package, but probably another live album before Democracy comes out. I still don't see why they didn't just release something, EP style with "Chinese Democracy", "The Blues", "Madagascar", "Silk Worms" and "Rhiad And The Bedouins" on it. Most of the hardcore GNR fans have already heard that stuff, as well as anyone who say them in concert in the winter of 2002. That would've shut me up for a bit. Or at least put two or three of em on the Greatest Hits. At least Axl doesn't seem to be at fault for this one. They are putting it out without his permission. Red Baron 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2004 Its a pretty ridiculous saying, but the fact its true. Almost every hair band had solid albums (Motley Crue; Shout At The Devil, Dr. Feelgood. Poison; Open Up And Say...Ahhh!. Bon Jovi; Slippery When Wet.) And yes, it came into a time, where Hair Metal was popping all over the place, and when GnR comes out, it was the anti hair band, that was still a hair band. (hence the Avril comparison) I'm not saying GnR was a second rate hair band, like Warrant, Winger, Cinderell, etc... GnR was better.

ZGangsta 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2004 GNR fans need to realize, that they were just a hair band, that survived a bit longer than the rest. Definately one of the stupidest music statements I've ever heard. That's like saying U2 is a hair band because they realeased a huge albumn in 1987 and Bono had sorta long hair. Guns and Roses was way closer to Metallica then any of their other comtemporary hard rock/metal bands.

Use Your Illusion 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2004 I don't understand all the uproar. If anything, a greatest hits compliation will give casual rock fans of today, that have heard of GNR but never really taken it upon themselves to buy any of their records, to get a taste of what the band is all about. Basically, Axl could use this as a publicity boost to give Chinese Democracy a jump start in sales, as it wouldn't be just the hardcore GNR fanbase buying his album. The way I see things, Axl will reveal everything very soon - everything seems to point in the direction of a release date, with the tour, the greatest hits album etc. However, logic need not apply when discussing Axl Rose, so who the hell knows. I've more doubts now than ever, though, as Dizzy Reed said that Chinese Democracy would *DEFINITELY* be out in 2003, and GNR fans got jack. Time will tell, I guess. You're reaching now buddy. Even with your "anti" theory, it's still way too flawed to hold up, I'm not even gonna bother. AFD was a great album, the rest is bleh. Vyce 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2004 I don't get the fascination with GNR. I would have figured that any goodwill fans of the band have would be gone after 10 years of Axl sitting with this thumb up his ass instead of making / releasing music. But then again some people hate Led Zeppelin or The Doors too. As far as the latter goes, those people have good reason for their hatred. Dizzy said in a Chicago radio interview about a month ago that the album was undergoing "minor vocal tweaking" and that he would have a copy in his hand next time he dropped by the radio station. I'm convinced that definitive proof of Sasquatch will be found before this album will be released. The only thing Axl did wrong was live. No, he lived and sat around with his thumb up his ass for 10 years before deciding to release another album, and still expected us to buy into hype which was dead and buried long ago to all but the most hardcore of GNR fans. Axl may be a selfish primadona with bad plastic surgery but he fronted one of the most dynamic rock bands of the 90s. I just wish the old crew could all make nice and get back together...
