ChrisMWaters Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 OK...back in the day on Nitro, they used to have that guy DJ Ran talking between matches about how he was all up in our area and such. My questions are: Who was he before Nitro, is he still alive...and why didn't WWE mention him on the Monday Night War DVD?
Guest Banders Kennany Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 I don't know who he was, but 20 bucks says he was a radio guy. I also have no idea why they *would* mention him on the Monday Night Wars DVD.
Zack Malibu Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 All I know is I'm glad he finally got the fuck out of my area.
ChrisMWaters Posted February 23, 2004 Author Report Posted February 23, 2004 I also have no idea why they *would* mention him on the Monday Night Wars DVD. Well, WWE could say that this was an idea to try to make WCW more popular with fans, but in the end it hurt them... Just a thought.
JoeDirt Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 That just reminds me of the whole "Rap is Crap" angle of spring 1999 in WCW. Horrible stuff.
Zack Malibu Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 Are you kidding me? I marked for the West Texas Rednecks. Cult favorites for sure.
JoeDirt Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 Are you kidding me? I marked for the West Texas Rednecks. Cult favorites for sure. Oh, I agree. I loved them because they were against the HORRIBLE Master P group, who were supposed to be faces, but even the fans turned on them and cheered the Rednecks. Remember Swoll and BA and Master P all with Konnan and Misterio? Awful.
razazteca Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 Master P involvement was a bad idea..............poor Brad Armstrong.

The fans would certainly be all up and about that there scenario. Word.
Guest Choken One Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 Isn't DJ Ran a prominent member of the Rap scene? I dunno but I gotta go DL "RAP IS CRAP" right now.
Guest Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 DJ Ran is a No Limit Soldier....whatever the fuck that is.
Guest Your Olympic Hero Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 DJ RAN ALL UP IN YA AREA
Youth N Asia Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 That was a great angle...I blew up like shit in their face by the fans supporting The Rednecks...but dumbass WCW didn't see it that way and still ran them as heels and Master P's suckbags as faces.

WCW being the southern wrestling company should know that people would side with country instead of hip hop. Wait, nvm, it was WCW. Common sense avoided them at all costs.
Youth N Asia Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 Yeah, I knew they lost all common sense when you saw Konnan's video every goddamn show...but when Disco superimposed himself into it to make it 100 times better...you only saw that once.

Jebus Posted February 24, 2004 Report Posted February 24, 2004 Funnily enough, I was singing West Texas Rednecks' 2nd hit "Good Ol Boys" in the shower today... ------------------ Southern born Southern bred When I die, I'll be southern dead We like to watch our wrestling every week on TV Our favorite show's Andy of Mayberry They're just good ol' boys Good ol' boys Good ol' boys They're just gooooood ol' boys We got American flags flyin' in our yard And every Saturday night, we like to party hard We got an old hound dog and a pick up truck We like long legged country girls that know how to love They're just good ol' boys Good ol' boys Good ol' boys They're just gooooood ol' boys We got an old hound dog and a pick up truck We like those long legged country girls that know how to... love They're just good ol' boys Good ol' boys Good ol' boys They're just gooooood ol' boys ---------- Wonder how many fans got the joke with that line? WCW: Family Oriented Programming R.I.P. Curt Hennig and Bobby Duncum Jr.
DCMaximo Posted February 24, 2004 Report Posted February 24, 2004 The best thing about the West Texas Rednecks, except of course the excellence that is Good Ol' Boys and Rap Is Crap, was the music videos, where Barry Windham looked like he was having the time of his life.

Nevermortal Posted February 24, 2004 Report Posted February 24, 2004 That whole summer of '99 was a weird musical time for WCW. DJ Ran, KISS, West Texas Rednecks, No Limit, and that country guy all on Nitro.

DangerousDamon Posted February 25, 2004 Report Posted February 25, 2004 This thread brought back several good memories(Disqo and the West Texas Rednecks) and several bad memories(No Limit and the fact that Perfect and Duncum are dead).

I....must....have it.
The Czech Republic Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 In my copy of DJ Kool's "Let Me Clear My Throat," he gives a shoutout to DJ Ran somewhere around the four-minute mark.
