Guest Deebo Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...nnel_stern_dc_6 How long before he jumps to Satellite Radio? Any bets?
Slayer Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 Damn the FCC is cracking down on radio... Don and Mike have had to really tone down their show in the wake of that as well as letting "bullshit" get out uncensored twice in one show
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 Isn't this a few stations who carry his syndicated show? I don't think its the radio show itself which is being pulled. And I didn't see a single passage in the article referring to the FCC.
Guest Cerebus Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 What was this incident? And shouldn't this be in the "Movies etc." board?

Sandman9000 Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 In addition, Bubba The Love Sponge was pulled from Clear Channel stations today. These guys won't jump to satellite radio unless the money is obscene, simply because satellite doesn't have the audience (and ad revenue) that over-the-air stations have now. Another media company will pick these guys up in a heartbeat if Clear Channel doesn't want them.
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 That's really stupid. The people on the Stern show are beyond anal about conforming to the rules and not taking it too far.

The guy on the button for that show is a maniac and bleeps anything and everything that could even be remotely offensive.
Downhome Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 I don't know one way or another, but this was on the WC board. Apparently what got Stern kicked off was during an interview with Rick Solomon (guy from the Paris Hilton tape), a caller asked Rick if he had ever slept with any n-word's. Now I heard this interview and I've heard this caller call-in a few times in the past. Stern laughed at him, Robin mocked him, they hung up on him and Stern asked Rick if he had ever slept with any black women.
Guest HHH123007 Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 ...and how would that be different from any other Stern show?
MarvinisaLunatic Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 If satellite Radio could lock up a deal with Howard Stern, Im fairly sure they could get away with murder on it. I mean, theres a playboy channel on one of the services. Satellite radio doesnt need as much ad revenue because they charge $10 a month. If a big name personality like Stern got a show on Satelite radio service, it would be a huge sucess for that service because Im willing to bet there are still people who want to hear the show even if the Radio Stations they have wont air it. Stern could still do the regular syndicated show and then have a special 1 hour uncensored after the show (or replace an hour) on the Satellite. I don't know how many people subscribe to a sat radio service but Im willing to bet the number would at least double as soon as Stern signed with one of them. People always complain about how Clear Channel is running everything and how radio sucks, but from what I hear, people like Sat radio (both XM and Sirius). Heck, Id be sold on the fact that there are no blackout restrictions on Sports games on the Sat Radio services. Sirius has all 4 sports.. but I digress..
Downhome Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 I miss Don and Mike, I haven't been able to listen to them for years, the station here changed format and since then I've been Done and Mikeless. I was last able to listen to them in 2000 or so. How much have they actually changed?
teke184 Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 Good riddance to Bubba the Love Sponge. As for the rest of them, I wish that Clear Channel hadn't come down as hard on Stern and hope that Walton and Johnson (southern radio program based in Houston) doesn't get in trouble. They don't do stuff that's TOO over the top like Bubba and company, but they do play songs like Denis Leary's "Asshole" and others that may get the FCC pissed at them.
Vyce Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 If this were anyone but Stern, I might feel a pang of sympathy. Don and Mike have had to really tone down their show in the wake of that as well as letting "bullshit" get out uncensored twice in one show Speaking as a lifelong Washington D.C. resident, I can honestly (and accurately) say that Don and Mike were NEVER any good. Or anything remotely resembling "funny."
Dr. Tom Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 Stern is syndicated by Infinity Broadcasting. Clear Channel carries him on six stations across the country, so I doubt he's sweating this. If anything, he'll spin it to his favor like he's done all the negative press he's gotten in the past.
Guest thebigjig Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 This country is going F'ing NUTS after the janet jackson crap... there's only one question left to be asked... how long before the Moral Majority and Jerry Fallwell become a force again??
haVoc Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 What's next? Clear Channel and the FCC going to tell bands they can't swear or do anything sexual during their live shows?

I'd tune in every now & then to see if they somehow got funny, but no such luck.
Youth N Asia Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 I just wish he was pulled here in Michigan...my local talk station keeps pulling decient shows and replaces them with crap.

Or he'll just spin this as a conservative conspiracy against him, as he's done for the past 20 years. *tunes into Stern this morning* And I'm right. Pretty remarkable, even for Howard - he even managed to imply that Bush is in on this little conspiracy as well, to silence him because Howard, of course, has the overwhelming power to decide elections.
Dr. Tom Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 I don't think he was trying to imply that Bush was in on some big conspiracy to get him off the air (I listened to Stern this morning, too). I think he has a point that the country and the FCC are flipping out since Janetgate, and he seems to be a target now. This is despite the fact that his show isn't as "shocking" as it used to be. Clearchannel is supposed to go before Congress, though, so this issue might not be over.
jimmy no nose Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 I only listened to the show once in a while, but the show is no longer on here in Pittsburgh which sucks. I guess now my radios will just stay tuned to ESPN radio at all times, not that I use them that much.
Jobber of the Week Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...nnel_stern_dc_6 How long before he jumps to Satellite Radio? Any bets? I'm sure both listeners will be excited. The FCC has suddently been cracking down on morality with the same rationale that government always uses when it moves quickly. If people are talking/outraged about something, their elected officials will move swiftly on it to try and look useful. Nevermind that this doesn't need legislation.

Clearchannel is supposed to go before Congress, though, so this issue might not be over. Actually, Rush had one of the better defenses for Stern out there. His argument, basically, was that things that would get you Emmys on TV get you heavily fined on radio. It's ridiculous that radio is held to such a different standard than other entertainment media. -=Mike

Yeah, and one of them happens to be in Pittsburgh. It took years for this town to get Stern's show, now it's gone. Damnit. I can't listen to Jim Quinn during an entire morning commute...
Slayer Posted February 27, 2004 Report Posted February 27, 2004 Don and Mike talked about the Stern incident at the beginning of their show, and they went off on ClearChannel and Infinity Broadcasting, talking about how guys like themselves, Stern and others of the sort were put on the air to do a certain type of show for a particular type of audience, but now that a minority is crying up in arms, CC and IB are not sticking by their guns but rather are trying to change their programs and thus screwing the very large particular audience of said shows Fuck the tightasses and fuck the FCC for not telling them to fuck off

Well a woman called in complaining about the language months bak(they say doushbag and stuff along those lines) so Big-O told her "I have an audience that is 85% males ages 18-54, women are 5% of my audience. Do you think I care that you're offended? Go turn it to your lite-rock station." Then Fred Smurlas who is a regular on the show chimed in with "Ya, you dooshbag". Greatest moment ever. However just about a month ago they brought in some new corporate woman to help clean shit up. I hate them changing something 99% of the audience enjoys because the 1% complains. Its absurd and just bad bussiness.
