bobobrazil1984 0 Report post Posted March 4, 2004 Picked this link up off of Drudge. Get ready to start sniping folks... http://www.fmqb.com/Article.asp?id=20252 Stern Feels Bush-Whacked End Is Near March 3, 2004 Howard Stern Howard Stern says the end of his career is closer than the two years left on his contract. "I know that it's over for me," Stern said Wednesday morning. "I have been really good at predicting my career and I know when I'm outmatched. It's over for me as a broadcaster. I'm checkmated. All they gotta do is fine us and then we're gone. And there's nothing we can do about it." But even with comments like that, Stern is not going down without a fight. For the past two days the syndicated morning man has been attacking those he feels are his oppressors - Clear Channel, the FCC and the Bush Administration. Yesterday (3/2), he was pondering the idea of a Million Moron March on Washington with a legion of his faithful fans. "Can you imagine CNN having to cover this and putting the Million Moron March up on the screen?" he joked when the idea was hatched. Stern has also started to question ties between Clear Channel and the Bush Administration and now suggests his change in heart about his support for President Bush is the real reason for him being suspended by Clear Channel. "If you don' t think me going after Bush got me thrown off those stations, you got another thing coming," said Stern. "This has nothing to do with anything I said." Stern laughed and was miffed at the perception by the mainstream media that he wasn't on Clear Channel stations because of indecent content on his show. Discussing a clip from The Sharon Osbourne Show where she said "Apparently the talk got very raunchy when Paris Hilton's boyfriend was on," Stern stammered: "Wrong! It wasn't that raunchy. I mean, I asked some questions. I said, 'Did you ever have anal sex?' But that's nothing out of the ordinary." "Nothing that hasn't happened here every day for the last ten years," added Robin Quivers. "My days here are numbered because I dared to speak out against the Bush administration and say that the religious agenda of George W. Bush concerning stem cell research and gay marriage is wrong," Stern continued. "And that what he is doing with the FCC is pushing this religious agenda. And also the fact that the guy takes more vacation than any President ever. It's time for him to leave. Having said that pushed me off the air in six markets." Stern says the end game of him being thrown off the air is already set, predicting "the FCC in a matter of weeks will come out with a trumped up list of things I said that they find offensive that Infinity will have to fire me." Later in the show Stern said he was "tempted to shut my mouth about all of it, because it will go away." He then added "I don't think we can stop it, short of me calling up President Bush and saying 'Look man, I'm going to support you, so don't do this.'" Supporting President Bush's Democratic opponent isn't attractive to Stern either. "Unfortunately, when they asked [John Kerry] about it, he completely skirted the issue, so it leaves me little recourse in terms of going to him." As for celebrity and media support of his free speech rights, Stern doesn't expect it. "Most of Hollywood and most of the media will be happy to see me gone. They will not fight for my First Amendment rights, because they don't like me. I make fun of them. I goof on them. I'm dangerous to them. Everyone wants me to go down. They've been praying for this for 20 years." Stern lit into Clear Channel on a couple of occasions. For two days now he has been questioning why he was suspended over a caller using the N-word, and asking why the new zero tolerance policy wasn't used on Ryan Seacrest. "How come the F-word and the S-word are going out on other shows? Don't they own KIIS-FM in Los Angeles? Didn't Ryan Seacrest's first day have the F-word and the S-word? Why was the guy not fired?" Stern also brought up the hiring of Michael Savage at CC's KPRC/Houston. Savage was fired from MSNBC for saying a caller was a sodomite who should "get AIDS and die." "Clear Channel had no problem hiring him after comments like that, because he's pro-Bush," Stern alleged. Not sure what to think. It's true that Stern's show has had much worse on the air for years, and the dumping happened just days after he made a very vocal anti-Bush turn (Stern was a supporter of the iraq war and bush in the past). But otoh the stupid Janet controversy has also been sending waves of stupid decisions across the media...
Styles 0 Report post Posted March 4, 2004 Ridiculous. You can thank Janet and Justin for their stupid display at the Super Bowl that has turned the FCC into a witch hunt. Bush has more important things to worry about (OMG LIKE PERSECUTING GAYS!!!!11LOL2004)....
Guest Cerebus Report post Posted March 4, 2004 Yeah...I like Stern but he just wants to galvanize some outrage to get support to overturn the decision. I seriously doubt it has anything to do with Bush.
BUTT 0 Report post Posted March 5, 2004 I don't think he's actually saying Bush himself had anything to do with it. Many top Clear Channel executives have donated large sums of money to the Bush campaign, and Clear Channel sponsored many "patriotic" pro-war rallies last year, so Stern seems to be suggesting that Clear Channel took exception to his criticism of Bush and pulled him from their stations. Guest Krazy Karter Report post Posted March 5, 2004 Howard's fighting the good fight. I started listening again last week for the first time since 2001 and he brings up alot of good points. It's common knowledge that Clear Channel is heavily influenced by the Bush Administration. He'd be smart to do the "Million Moron March" during Spring Break. I would definitely drive down and support him.

Vyce 0 Report post Posted March 5, 2004 Howard's completely lost his mind at this point. Trying to pin this on Bush is a new level of absurdity even for him. Stern laughed and was miffed at the perception by the mainstream media that he wasn't on Clear Channel stations because of indecent content on his show. Discussing a clip from The Sharon Osbourne Show where she said "Apparently the talk got very raunchy when Paris Hilton's boyfriend was on," Stern stammered: "Wrong! It wasn't that raunchy. I mean, I asked some questions. I said, 'Did you ever have anal sex?' But that's nothing out of the ordinary." Howard is, of course, completely ignoring the comments that got him kicked off - when a caller phoned in to ask Hilton's ex, and I quote, "Have you ever done any famous n*gger chicks?" MSN had a great article about this situation yesterday; it pretty much stated how Howard is a broadcaster in the utter twilight of his career who's essentially become irrelevant but is unable to acknowledge that. So he has to concoct this bizarre conspiracy theory in order to make himself seem the victim. Bullshit. This FCC business has been building for a good couple years now, and if he didn't realize that sooner or later it'd be his time in the crosshairs he's even more out of touch than I imagined. Didn't Howard used to have a KKK guy on there, Daniel Carver, who would use that word 40 times during the course of a conversation? I am more apt to agree with Howard. To kick him off the air because some of his program is raunchy or homophobic or racist........well where the fuck have you people been since 1980?
Guest BDC Report post Posted March 5, 2004 point fingers and get blind support no matter what. If PETA came out saying Bush killed and ate kittens, how many would flock to it? For the record, it's not anyone on this board I'm accusing, but mainly idiots on my campus that were spouting today that Bush ordered Stern off the air for anti-Bush remarks. I wanted my tire iron... Guest JMA Report post Posted March 5, 2004 This has nothing to do with anti-Bush comments (obviously). This has everything to do with the FCC being censoring, Puritan bitches. We NEED someone like Stern on the radio. It's important we have someone willing to test the boundries of what's acceptable and what isn't. And have girls show their tits. To kick him off the air because some of his program is raunchy or homophobic or racist........well where the fuck have you people been since 1980? That only strengthens the argument that the Clear Channel response was merely a knee-jerk reaction to governmental scrutiny, a showing of goodwill to get into the FCC's good graces by sacrificing radio's number one offender, and, ultimately, just a business move. It just further shows how much Howard is full of shit trying to make this into some sort of Machiavellian politcal conspiracy against him. As for "needing" Howard - there will ALWAYS be people testing the boundaries. Howard stopped doing that a LONG time ago. It's just easier now for him to go out of the business claiming he was forced out - making him seem like one of his idols, Lenny Bruce - because it seems to add some relevance to a career that's long since ceased to be just that. He becomes (at least in the mind of his lemming-like fans) "Howard Stern, victim of governmental oppression" rather than what he truly is: a washed-up shock jock who has become everything that he once hated. Guest cpac Report post Posted March 5, 2004 You know it sucks when Our Constitution right now is being pissed on by a bunch or religious fantatics who take the bible far too seriously. Gone are the days when actual parenting would regulate what comes on in the household on tv and the radio. Now we have an organization which was set up to regulate pricacy on the radio and tv airwaves telling us what we can and cannot watch. So far today Howard has been comparing our govt to that of nazi germany. I would much rather see Howard go out on his own terms when he has become tired of doing radio. Instead we are going to see Howard become a Martyr because a bunch of hypocritical jesus fantatics find it offensive when Howard says penis or vagina. Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted March 5, 2004 Newswire stories have said the FCC has been pondering going after pay services as well, such as HBO or satellite radio. Guest thebigjig Report post Posted March 5, 2004 its the conspiracy theorist in me... but for some reason, I get the sneaking suspicion that the top neocons in the government (not naming names) were just LOOKING for the right time and incident to start their morality witchunt
bobobrazil1984 0 Report post Posted March 5, 2004 I'm reading the recaps of Stern's show from marksfriggin.com and he seems legit scared that he's gonna be off the air completely in like 2 weeks because of the fines. Despite personal opinions on Howard (mine are not very high), what's happening here is bullshit. I'm not saying its because of anti-Bush comments, it may just as well be simply his raunchy behavior and how it offends the big companies' sense of morality... but whatever is going on is bullshit. whats darkly funny about it is that Stern obviously isn't politically savvy... he just sorta goes off on whoever he thinks is acting like a douche (as he's always done) without really thinking... only this time the people he's going after happen to be immensely powerful, i mean he's going on about Bush, congresspeople, delving into the religious sect of the right, I mean wow... hell you dont hear some of this stuff from liberals. http://www.marksfriggin.com/news.htm has the recap of today's show. he spent like an hour begging people to vote again Bush, going off of the religious right, and especially the FCC, accusing them of basically racketeering, and on and on. 1234-5678 0 Report post Posted March 5, 2004 "Howard said that the FCC will probably issue the fines over the weekend. He went on to say that this Senator from Kansas by the name of Brownback, wrote a letter to Mel Karmazin and asked him why he hasn't taken Howard off the air yet. This is a guy who Howard claims, lives with some other politicians in a million dollar townhouse that's paid for by a religious organization. Howard said that this is disturbing to him and anyone living in a place like that has to bow to the pressure of the group. Howard said that the name of the group is The Fellowship. He read an article and said that these guys are out of control. They are in congress and in the senate. He said that the house is valued at $1.1 million and the people living there pay just $600 a month for rent. Howard said that the religious organization is actually the C Street Center which is part of The Fellowship. " Paranoia or interesting and disturbing fact? bobobrazil1984 0 Report post Posted March 5, 2004 http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&cid...00148&printer=1 "NEW YORK -- Amid a widening and increasingly politicized campaign to clean up the nation's airwaves, regulators are proposing fines against many of the nation's major radio companies for carrying well-known "shock jocks," Federal Communications Commission (news - web sites) officials told The Wall Street Journal. About a dozen cases are being finalized, these officials said, and one target is Howard Stern, one of the nation's most popular and controversial radio hosts. The FCC (news - web sites) is deciding on penalties against his employer, Viacom Inc. (NYSE:VIA - News)'s Infinity Broadcasting. Also facing further scrutiny are Emmis Communications Inc. and Clear Channel Communications Inc. (NYSE:CCU - News) , the nation's largest radio owner, which last week took Mr. Stern's show off six of its radio stations and fired a controversial -- and oft-fined -- Tampa, Fla., radio host, Todd Clem, known as "Bubba the Love Sponge." Stupid Kansasians......... There is nothing more dangerous then a bible thumper with power. If religion and government are supposed to be kept seperate, what are these fuckers doing in that house? Why is Bush always mentioning God? I think Howard is right. Within 20 years this is going to be a religious state. I'm moving to fucking Canada........maybe Amsterdam. Styles 0 Report post Posted March 5, 2004 Why does everything have to be equated to religion? Because someone is offended that Howard Stern offers graphic details of anal sex at 7 in the morning and allows his callers to ask about "fucking n****r chicks" you must be a religious fanatic?! It's called having some common decency. I'm not the least bit religious but I have enough common sense to realize that stuff is not appropriate especially for children who very easily could listen to the radio, especially at such an early hour before school. Now, you must have been living under a rock for 20 years if you're just now realizing Howard Stern is offensive. But, he can thanks Janet and Justin and MTV for their ridiculous display at the superbowl which created a shitstorm among outraged viewers and advertisers. Howard should have the common sense to realize that the FCC is on high alert and to not unleash some of his most brazenly offensive material ever at this time. It has nothing to do with any type of religious conspiracy. Religion=morality so of course religious leaders are going to be offended by immoral behavior. I hate to tell some of you this, but on issues like cencorship the left meets the right anyway. Just like the religious right, the PC left is just as outraged by this stuff and both sides meet in the middle. And again, this is a movement of normal people who don't think the aforementioned content is appropriate on over the air radio at such early hours. But if you want to run around like beheaded chicken yelling that the sky is falling and we're headed down a road of religious absolutism, save it.
