Guest Choken One Report post Posted June 7, 2004 I loved Al saying this "2 minutes and some more and pistons are still in this...leading by seven at that" with this geniune shocked sound.

Damaramu 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2004 Uh...Id say this game is over.. I don't ever trust a game being over with these bastards from LA. But then again....who said it's be a 4-0 sweep!? Yeah......don't ever try to become an odds maker. You'd go broke.

And that's what all the assholes on The Lakers get for overlooking Detroit! Now you need to keep your homecourt Detroit and you've got it!
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2004 That was a thrashing. They let Kobe and Shaq score, and pretty much stuffed everyone else. Really impressive.

Kurt Angle Mark 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2004 Finally someone is using the strategy I would use of letting Shaq and Kobe score all the points they want and stopping the midcarders. It is always the Fishers, the Horrys, the Rushs that score the big shots in the playoffs. So stop them and you have a shot to win. I also liked the Piston chances because once you play those wars against a great defensive team like Indiana, playing anybody else is like playing the Magic. bobobrazil1984 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2004 *applauds* Good win, but Detroit can't rest on its laurels. LA is notorious for their comebacks. Still, it was a GOOD DEFENSIVE showing by Detroit. I never understood why people took the atrociously low scores in the Indiana series as some sort of gospel about Detroit's scoring. HELLO, Indy's a defense-oriented team. Detroit averaged high scores in the MIL series, decent scoring the NJ series (same as LA averaged vs Spurs), and they averaged 90.1 points in the regular season. Yeah well that was in overtime and Philly wasn't half the team Detroit is. I like this though.......hell even if Detroit loses the series they still shut up all the morons that said they were going to get swept and had no chance of coming close to the Lakers. And it's like the announcers said....if Detroit didn't have so many damn turnovers then LA would've been crying big.

I, too, hate to rain on your parade, but given the schedule of the Finals, the Pistons' prospects of holding serve on the home court look bleak. Unlike the other rounds, the Finals go 2-3-2 (like baseball), meaning Games 4-6 will be in Motown. Under that format, no team has EVER won all three of those middle games at home. Strangely enough, tho, the ROAD team has won all three.
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2004 I think Detroit has a chance to win 2 at home. Then they'd just have to win another in LA....which they've proved they can do. And Rip wasn't even on tonight....imagine if he'd been on fire!?
Guest Choken One Report post Posted June 7, 2004 I didn't say they had no chance... I was just telling Dama not to get all excited since it was only the first game and the Lakers are known to come back STRONG from these type of deals.
Just John 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2004 That was an impressive win for Detroit in Game 1. Only Kobe and Shaq even bothered to show up for LA and the Pistons had a solid team effort. Still, I can't stress enough, this does not mean anything. Absolutely nothing. Ask San Antonio what happens when you think you have the Lakers out of it and proceed to quit playing. If there are 4 games left in the series, don't count LA out.

Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted June 7, 2004 Damn good game until LA got stupid with turnovers and Detroit capitalized on it and turned it into a blowout. How does it feel to be facing a DEFENSE now, LA? Motherfuckers. Give credit where credit is due.. Kobe and Shaq played like they've been champs before and they want it bad again. Malone and Payton really played like guys that have never won a ring before. Malone didn't even score till 31 minutes into the game. I loved Kareem Rush taking his first shot beyond the line, that was great. Too bad he didn't come through in the 4th when we needed him the most. Where was Fisher? And what the fuck was that I heard that MEDVEDENKO has the THIRD most shot attempts on the team??? You guys get what I hate about him? The guy thinks he can actually MAKE those shots, and I'm jumping off my couch going "NO FUCKING WHITE BOY PASS IT!" Moron. I give Detroit huge props for coming up big in LA, something Houston, Minnesota, and the defending champ Spurs were all unable to do. One commentator made a good point though, and I agree, that neither one of these teams are going to get beat more than 2 times in a row. Does defense win championships? Motown says yes. LA says we hope not... I can see this series going to 7 games.
bobobrazil1984 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2004 regardless of who wins, i think we've officially got a SERIES on our hands, and I'm planning on enjoying it
The Electrifyer 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2004 What amazed me about this game is that Detroit is the first team to beat LA on there home court in the playoffs. I guess when you play defense that slows down the game to snail pace, the home crowd is completely out of it. Detroit needs to not get cocky though. I fear that with them being a young team, they'll think winning 1 game means winning the series. They needed this win to build there confidence, but not fuel any possible ego that could form. Shaq oughtta come back and now do a whole interview going "They will not win game 2".
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted June 7, 2004 Agreed. Isn't it great when Laker fans and non-Laker fans can live in harmony? I don't think it would be fair to either team if the series was a blowout. Both teams deserve better.

Damaramu 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2004 Well the thing is that Shaq and Kobe were seemingly forced to play 2 on 5 basketball. And as Spreewell and KG proved...you can't win when you play like that. So if LA wants to win they need to figure something out. And Detroit needs to do the same thing. Imagine if they play exactly like this on Tuesday but Rip shoots 60% throughout the game? Jeez......
razazteca 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2004 I expect Rasheed & Rip to shoot 75% and Prince getting the rest.
The Electrifyer 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2004 Kobe played good defense on Rip though. It'll be a little difficult for him to shoot 60%.
Guest TheArchiteck Report post Posted June 7, 2004 Great game, great showing from Da Stones. C-Bill really stepped it up and I'm extremely happy they didn't adopt that hack a shaq bs. Shaq is going to make his shots no matter what, no reason to have all your guys in foul trouble over it. Whats funny is that all these so called NBA experts short changed the Pistons offense. I mean even the regular fan should realize that the Nets and Pacers are two defensive teams. Well, I'm excited but like some of you guys stated.......this is only getting started, since LA loves to come back strong on teams. I can't wait to see what LB brings to the table on tuesday. NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2004 I was actually suprised Detroit was able to keep out of constant foul trouble, being their aggressive style Defense, and the fact that game was in LA, where aggressivenes could go punished. It will be interesting to see if Game 2 is going to be called similar, or if suddenly you see patty cake taps called as fouls. If somehow the Pistons can go up 2-0, it will be REALLY interesting to see if they take their aggressiveness up one more notch because in Detroit they SHOULD get the benefit of the doubt on judgment calls. I really am suprised at the results of game, but it was definately a more important game for the Pistons because I think they key for the Pistons is to make sure they are NEVER in the position where they have to win 2 in a row to win the series. I think the Lakers are a lot more comfortable down in a series, then Detroit would be, but hey that is just my opinion.
