Guest Redhawk Report post Posted May 4, 2004 When ESPN aired Pat Tillman's memorial service, I was wondering why they hadn't aired any other similar memorial services. Granted, no one else in Iraq/Afghanistan was a pro athlete, but I'm sure there were some former college athletes fighting overseas. I usually turn on ESPNews when I'm going to sleep, so I don't really care what ESPN does. I also don't like the fact that ESPN promoted itself as the man's channel, and now they are showing women's college basketball and have women anchors on Sportscenter. You haven't LIVED until you hear Joe Horn LEGITIMATELY bitch that he gets punished for his grandstanding, while the NFL licenses Street, which heavily features taunting in it. It might well replace om Jackson's post-Rush diatribe as the most surreal yet asinine thing I've ever heard on that network. Could someone explain the video game segment? In short, Slugfest teaches kids that violence is OK --- and they found some player to agree with the assessment. Ballers teaches kids that women are property and can be bought. It'll help hone their defensive driving skills for later in life and lets them practice their hooker pickup lines. Gotta love the "It's not MY job to raise my kid" brand of parenting. And why isn't ESPN pimping the hell out of their own game franchise? They kind of paint themselves into a corner when some of their shows (NFL Matchup for one) are sponsored by EA and use EA's games to illustrate different things. I've had the ESPN-edited version of the McNabb stuff ingrained in my head (basically where they cut out anything on NFL Gameday that made themselves look bad -- i.e. Michael Irvin saying that Rush Limbaugh had some points) so could someone explain the whole "ever....ever" thing? Whenever I or someone else (usually MikeSC) says this line, it is usually followed by "I was just asked by *insert name of group* if it would be OK for them to *insert what this group wants to do,*" which is making fun of Tom Jackson's "I was asked by little black kids if it was OK for them to be quarterbacks." I mean, I want to find out about sports, not who starred in "My Baby's Daddy". Oh, and Stephen A. Smith is a fucking moron. Between him bitching saying "We as fans don't pay to see players play defense, we want to see then score alot. We are paying these players salary, and we ain't paying for defense." and his "Lakers let Minnesota win" crap last week, it just gives me more ammo to go in the 26 book series on "how many ways does Stephen A Smith suck." goddamned moron. Oddly enough, my opinion of him really changed during the whole Rush resigns from ESPN fiasco. He was on O'Reilly's show talking about this and made sense, but then I read his column on the matter the next day and it was almost a complete contradiction of what he said the night before.
