Open the Muggy Gate 0 Report post Posted April 16, 2004 I watched the Mordecai promo last night. At that same time it was on, my mom walked into the room and saw it.... and she was freakin' offended by it to say the least. She is a big Christian, and she doesn't even want to see him... she might be hypocritical though... she likes Eugene... Anyways... do you think Mordecai will offend a lot of people like Eugene did? Open the Muggy Gate 0 Report post Posted April 16, 2004 Well... what about Christopher Daniels? That gimmick works well. Don't mention Reverand D'Von and Deacon Batista though... Never...
chaosrage 0 Report post Posted April 16, 2004 For people who don't watch Smackdown, who is Mordecai? Sounds cool.

JoeDirt 0 Report post Posted April 16, 2004 I wouldn't be too worried until he starts crucifying people or something like that. I really don't see how last night's vignette would be seen as really offensive unless you were REALLY religious and taking things a bit too seriously. He's a BAD GUY, afterall. Nevermortal 0 Report post Posted April 16, 2004 The vibe I got off of Mordecai is that he's over-the-top religious, not anti-religion.
SinToxic 0 Report post Posted April 16, 2004 In the end it will be his skills or lack of that will offend people and not his gimmick.
Downhome 0 Report post Posted April 16, 2004 As a huge Christian, I wasn't offended at all. I also have a cousin with down syndrome, and Eugene doesn't offend me. Some people are just too tight assed about wrestling. Some Christians (and other people) complain about stuff in wrestling offending them, then go off and watch a movie, TV show, etc... with the same type of stuff it in, and accept that as "just a character". TheBigSwigg 0 Report post Posted April 16, 2004 I used to run an fantasy wrestling group with the help of my old roommate. We're both Christians (he's way more conservative with it than I am) and he actually used a similar gimmick in the e-fed. He's heard about Mordecai and is psyched about it. Anyone who's a Christian and is offended by it takes their Christianity a little TOO seriously.
TheBigSwigg 0 Report post Posted April 16, 2004 As a bit of clarification, I do take my religion seriously. But anyone who gets offended by a character on a TV show being religiously oriented is a little over the top in my opinion

Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Report post Posted April 16, 2004 C'mon folks, we had Steve Austin nailed onto the Undertaker's symbol. Which is more of a disgrace as they replaced the cross, which is fairly sacred in my book, with a stupid wrestling symbol, and put Steve Austin in the place of Jesus. now THAT is offensive. Talking about religion happens every day.

Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Report post Posted April 16, 2004 I think people were offended that Mordecai flat out called himself "the right hand of God." Bah. I've heard many humans call themselves that. Religious fundamentalists deserve to be mocked.

Guest M. Harry Smilac Report post Posted April 16, 2004 When all else fails and you have all the tools to make a great wrestling show but are too stupid to figure out how, play the controversy card. Ala the revolutionary(not) attitude era

Just John 0 Report post Posted April 16, 2004 I just think it's funny that when Mordecai feuds with the Undertaker, the Satanic "Lord of Darkness" will be the face while the "Right hand of God" is the heel. I'm not offended in the least, it just struck me as odd.
Open the Muggy Gate 0 Report post Posted April 16, 2004 I'm not going crazy over this. It's just a couple of marks that I know, and it made me think about it for a moment. I'm fine with the gimmick.. as long as no one has sex with a mannequin named Katie Vick, I'm fine with the gimmick. I don't care.

Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Report post Posted April 17, 2004 I hope Seven/Mordechai pulls this gimmick off. Doesn't sound like anything like what Jesus went through.

It's your choice to be spiritual and religious, and it's your choice to believe what you read in the Bible and to pray to a guy who you believe exists in an alternate plane and chooses whether people have eternal happyness or live forever in flames and death and pain and suffering, etc. If you choose to believe in that, you should have the skin when someone take it as seriously or belive in it as strongly as you do. Kardo 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2004 Anyone know where to get this promo for him? They didn't show it with Smackdown over here and I was only watching the show to see this!
Guest Deviant Report post Posted April 17, 2004 Heh, I came here to request the same thing as Kardo. If anyone has a video, screenshots, transcript, anything really, I'd appreciate it. Let's face it, this guy is going to suck in the ring, so I'd like to be able to see the only part of him I will enjoy; the vignettes.
DokDoyle 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2004 I think people were offended that Mordecai flat out called himself "the right hand of God." haVoc 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2004 Mordecai better pick a religion because he's getting buried by the Undertaker right out of the gates of OVW Hell. This character is made for an old school Taker feud.
