DMann2003 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2004 I picked up "Get Born" a few days ago based on the first 2 singles and I really like it, it's a nice mesh of 3 chord rock and Oasis-ish ballads. Or am I once again liking a band everyone here thinks stinks?
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Report post Posted May 1, 2004 I was intiruged by their retro rock playing style...and the Drummer trying to look like Ginger Baker. But I listened to the album and hated it. huzzah.

Adam 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2004 Jet is AWESOME. 'Get Born' is one of the best albums from last year, and definately in my top 3. I am yet ot see them live, but as soon as they come down to my state, I'm there with bells on. My favourite Australian band.

Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2004 Agreed. "99 Problems" is going to be the next single and I'm happy to hear Rick Rubin production back on the radio. On Jet: I don't know if the "they're a glorified cover band" criticism that everyone throws around is fully justified, but they don't do a helluva lot for me. There are some definite chinks in their retro-armor. "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" was a bit catchy at first, but then I listened to "Lust for Life" three times in a row and forgot about it entirely. Cuban Linx 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2004 I'm largely indifferent to Jet. That puts them above the majority of current music acts as far as i'm concerned, but i still don't particularly care for them. Living in Australia i have to hear them all the time too. NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2004 My sister had on MTV, and when the music started up, before I looked at the screen, I seriously thought it was AC/DC with a new song or something. The vocals tipped me off that it wasn't AC/DC though.
Use Your Illusion 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2004 Jet is AWESOME. 'Get Born' is one of the best albums from last year, and definately in my top 3. I am yet ot see them live, but as soon as they come down to my state, I'm there with bells on. My favourite Australian band. It's not hard to put Jet above the rest though, considering all of Australia's main bands are fucking shit. *Espicially* Powderfinger, Grinspoon and all the other fine pieces of mediocrity. I have insanely high standards though, so maybe it's just me. UYI
Adam 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2004 I don't mind Powderfinger at all. Grinspoon are reasonable, but nothing special. Silverchair have turned into a bunch of easy-listening pussies who make shithouse music. They were much better when they were young, angry kids.
Use Your Illusion 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2004 Amen to that.
Adam 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2004 I mean, I bought Diorama. I listened to it ONCE. ONE TIME. I haven't heard it since. It is the biggest piece of shit have ever heard, and it won all the ARIAs. Hell, Delta F'N Goodrem shits on that CD (and I HATE Delta Goodrem). Vulture Street by Powderfinger was a great album, it deserved its awards. But Diorama didn't. Use Your Illusion 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2004 Vulture Street is great, if you like music that sounds like it was recorded in some random pub from around the country. Agreed, some of the tunes are pretty catchy, but their appeal wears off (at least on me) very quickly.Powderfinger had an alright debut album, and it's been downhill ever since. I didn't understand the Diorama love either, as I thought everything on that album was just watered down bullshit. UYI
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted May 1, 2004 I think they're terrible and dull.
Adam 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2004 How so? They're sound is very old-school, but its refreshing in these days of generic rock (ie. Grinspoon) and stupid rap. They are a balls-and-all, sex drugs and rock 'n roll band. They remind me a lot of ACDC, very cool riffs, and great words.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted May 1, 2004 They don't do anything that hasn't been covered by middle of the road classic rock bands ad nauseum. They're fine if you like regular whole wheat radio rock.

Guest I Got Banned for Sucking Report post Posted May 1, 2004 If it wasn't for bands like The Hives, and bands that try to revive 70s punk, i.e. The Strokes, Jet wouldn't even be in the charts. I'm not saying that I don't like them, because they've written some damn good tunes, but it just sucks that as soon as they surfaced, it was in the mainstream. jimmy no nose 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2004 I first heard that Are You Gonna Be My Girl song in the car a few times and would think it was Lust For Life every time it came on then the vocals would start. I heard some more of their albums and it turns out they copy a ton of riffs on there, some aren't quite as noticable as Are You Gonna Be My Girl, but it's still annoying to me. A funny thing I saw one time was MTV2 had a list of top 100 guitar riffs and had that Jet song at 72 then Lust For Life right above it at 71. How did they decide which one was better? haVoc 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2004 Jet is pretty much the only band I like on current rock stations with the exception of a few songs here and there by others.
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted May 1, 2004 A funny thing I saw one time was MTV2 had a list of top 100 guitar riffs and had that Jet song at 72 then Lust For Life right above it at 71. How did they decide which one was better? I sure as hell hope that list means list of top 100 guitar riffs of songs being played on MTV/MTV2 today, or in the last year-5 years, because I sure as hell don't think either of those belong in the top 100 guitar riffs OF ALL TIME. Can't you pretty much just do a switch with an AC/DC song anyways?
Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2004 Way too much Beatles imitation (especially "Look What You've Done"), but considering that Jet was also the name of a Paul McCartney song, I guess I shouldn't be suprised.
