Silence 0 Report post Posted July 12, 2004 i have loved all the smackdown games, but the glaring problem with hctp was the fact that in my game everytime i would call a person out .steph would show up and book a match between me and her or i would be in the back and be attacked by steph,so i quickly lost interest in it,so i hope that the next game changes that, other than that the games have been awesome Wow. I obviously haven't noticed that in my game because that's the first time I've read about anyone with HCTP having to face Stephanie in a match after calling someone else out. So it's not just Vince or Bischoff that you have to wrestle as far as authority figures go?

DangerousDamon 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2004 July 16, 2004 - Though THQ is going to reveal the majority of its feature set for WWE Smackdown! vs. RAW in the upcoming issue of PSM Magazine (yes, that's a plug for my boy Kaiser and crew), representatives for the Toy Headquarters revealed plenty of new information exclusively to IGN this afternoon. Namely, bits on the planned roster, an all-new match type, some graphical facts, and it even addressed the rumor of online play. Online play, in fact, was the first order of business. As several IGN readers have reported to us that they have received Beta Test requests from Sony to participate in a Smackdown! vs. RAW Internet trial. And while there have been plenty of arguments among fans today as to whether or not this request is real, we can confirm that the emails are definitely legitimate. "Sony has begun the online beta program for Smackdown! vs. RAW," said THQ's Head of Media Relations, Liz Pieri, in a comment to IGN earlier today. "But THQ has yet to announce online play as a confirmed feature in the game." Now in the off chance that you don't speak videogame lingo or aren't familiar with the beta-testing process, an online beta test for Smackdown! vs. RAW doesn't necessarily confirm the feature 100%. Instead, it means that the company is looking into the possibility of adding it to the final game and is evaluating it to see if it works. If the online feature doesn't work exactly how the developers want it to, then it won't make it into the final game, could be scaled in terms of size, or be re-worked into something else entirely. Those possibilities are why THQ hasn't officially announced online play up to this point and still won't -- as even though the feature is now more likely going to happen than not, THQ is still not sure if it will make it all the way to the end of the development process (see Uru: Beyond of Myst for the PC as a good example of this). But now it's time to move into the realm of what definitely will be in Smackdown! vs. RAW: The Parking Lot Brawl. Announced as the only new match type this year, the PLB is pretty much just what it sounds like; a specialty match that takes place in the parking lot behind the arena. While in this match, players will be able to interact with and destroy just about everything in the environment -- be it cars, trucks, limos, or whatever else happens to be hanging around. The level of destructibility of these objects is still being determined, but Product Manager Devin Knudsen did confirm that doors, hoods, and other similar pieces can all be smashed around like crazy -- which is a pretty promising start. Knudsen also confirmed at least nine superstars who will make the final roster whose number is still not finalized. The nine confirmed grapplers are: John Cena, Randy Orton, Booker T, Ric Flair, Batista, Triple H, Chris Jericho, Rico, and Charlie Haas. Additionally, we learned that Jim Ross, Jerry Lawler, and Eric Bischoff will also be in the game in a greater capacity than they were before. Whether or not that means that they'll be playable as active members of the roster or have a more prominent mode in career mode remains to be seen. Finally, THQ touched on some of the more presentational aspects of Smackdown! vs. RAW and revealed that for the first time in the series' history, the game will receive all-new music for the menu screens and in-game wrestling matches (thank the heavens!). What makes this musical enhancement even more interesting, though, is the fact that it will boast licensed tracks from established industry stars. Who these bands or individual singers will be, however, have not yet be revealed. Another new presentational tidbit that's sure to please fans is the fact thay all the transition screens from Smackdown! and RAW television programming (ie: the graphics used to illustrate championship matches, the 'tale of tape' versus screens, and similar pre and post-match visuals) has been included as well, and the championship belts can finally be used as a weapon during matches. Even better, is that in an effort to add even more realism, Yuke's has implanted a new blur filter effect for submission moves to illustrate the pain or grogginess associated with the pain (it's also possible that this effect will be used for powerful blows to the head as well, but THQ still hasn't finalized that yet). Unfortunately, that's all we have for now. But it's definitely the most about Smackdown! vs. RAW that's been revealed so far. Before we go, though, be sure and click on our image above to view a handful of brand new screenshots taken from the most recent build. They're pretty sweet too, and illustrate the fact that Yuke's has increased each character's polygon count by 25%. Expect us to return with more on SvR in the coming weeks and look for a definite answer as to whether or not the online mode will stay by watching this space. -- Jeremy Dunham Credit: IGN I have no clue why they would put in a freaking Parking Lot Brawl match when I can just do that in a Hardcore match. The idea of having licensed music is quite interesting, however.

Masked Man of Mystery 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2004 Backstage Assault anyone? Seriously, that new match sounds like a mix of Revenge mode from Wrestlemania 19, Backstage Assault, and the backstage area in No Mercy

AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2004 U have to love how they "confirm" Rico like he is some big star or something Your point? Say what you will about his WWE work, but in SYM Rico was quite bitchin' to play as. Too bad the new stat system demolished the fairly level playing field or he'd be worth using... Additionally, we learned that Jim Ross, Jerry Lawler, and Eric Bischoff will also be in the game in a greater capacity than they were before. Whether or not that means that they'll be playable as active members of the roster or have a more prominent mode in career mode remains to be seen. Whooptie ****!~ What makes this musical enhancement even more interesting, though, is the fact that it will boast licensed tracks from established industry stars. Who these bands or individual singers will be, however, have not yet be revealed. "...established industry stars..." What does that mean? More carbon-copy nu-metal junk? Yuke's has increased each character's polygon count by 25%. Surely they've fixed the clipping by now...they had to, right?

It's probably better than the generic music we've been gettin since Smackdown 1, although some of the BGMs (or is it BGM songs?) weren't that bad on that version. Silence 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2004 You would think that Yukes would confirm Chris Benoit, since he's the World Heavyweight Champion on Raw. I guess they'll just announce him at the last minute as some "late addition" and give him fucked-up stats, which would piss me off. Edit: Off-topic. I just noticed that I have "Jeff Hardy" listed under my name. What the hell?
Guest combat_rock Report post Posted July 17, 2004 That parking lot brawl thing is stupid. So far the addition of online play is the only thing that really means anything to me, although I might by it, just for the roster update and new season storylines. Use Your Illusion 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2004 Um, I could have 'parking lot brawls' in Shut Your Mouth, so this is hardly revolutionary. It is obvious that THQ is fresh out of any new concept. They should have fans vote for a match type they want included then have a public vote on the most popular suggestions. UYI

Guest Askewniverse Report post Posted July 17, 2004 The blur filter effect doesn't do anything for me. I'm not a fan of special camera effects in WWE games, unless they can be controlled (like in SYM). One of my biggest complaints about HCTP was that the camera effects were automatic. The Tino Standard 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2004 Parking Lot Brawl sounds like a match made more to please video game programmers than it is for people actually buying the game. We want realism and things that we actually see on TV. They want to create a match that has a bunch of interactive things that go BOOM, despite the fact that parking lot brawls rarely, if ever, happen anymore on TV. That blurring effect on submissions sounds like they're trying to adapt the "stadium noise shakes the screen" concept from NCAA '05. I will say that looking at that picture of Evolution, the character models look unbelievably good.

Exslade ZX 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2004 Damn..I was 'freaking out' when I saw a lot of the screens for Day of Reckoning, and was trying to get a Gamecube as fast as I can, but damn seeing these screens...it might change the mind of people who were saying it looks like DoR might look better then SDvsRAW. Looks like they're still adding on to the two...they look a little different then from the first set of screens with those two in them.

DangerousDamon 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2004 Is Triple H slugging Jericho in the background of the JR/King shot? Yes, he is. I wish they would add realease Dragon and Tiger Suplexes in this game. EVERY wrestling game has those moves. Since they aren't really adding anything new, they should really work on adding more moves and tidying up all the animations that've been in since Smackdown 1. Vyce 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2004 Commentary. Yay. CM, is anything truly worthwhile mentioned in the article? Does it say how complex Create-a-PPV will be or anything? I hope like hell it's not just a return of the old PPV system found in SM2 (for PS1), just slightly updated. If they're going to make it a special feature, go all the way with it. The screens look really good, though. I'll be picking this up come the fall - probably along with Rumble Rose too.
El Psycho Diablo 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2004 One thing I've always hated? The stupid blue "picture" they always give your CAW in every game. You'd think it wouldn't be that hard to make some snapshot feature so you could have a face like the rest of the roster does.. I'd have much rather had that than the pathetic looking "divas" and Bra and Panties matches HCTP had..
Silence 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2004 Commentary. Yay. That means we'll be hearing Lawler screaming "Show me the puppieeesss!!" during matches again and JR saying "Lahke him or not, this man deserves respect!" when talking about HHH. Ugh.
Skywarp! 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2004 Nooooooooooooooo! When they ditched commentary, that was an UPGRADE! DON'T bring it back! Also, I bet the long-forgotten match will be a big letdown, like a Brawl for All. Hopefully, they finally can fit 8 guys into a match and we can have Survivor Series matches and more chaos in the rumbles.
