Jingus 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2004 Looks like a fairly decent set. I wish they'd put commentaries on more of them, but oh well, you take what you can get with these deals. I'm guessing that the last three Jason movies aren't included because of some copywright/ownership problem?
MrRant 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2004 Yeah... Jason X and Freddie vs. Jason was done by New Line.
Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2004 Awesome work with this. Mad props to Paramount.
Guest Mindless_Aggression Report post Posted June 30, 2004 Finally. I'd rather each movie had it's own individual disc with extras included, but the 5 disc set up should keep the price from being too outrageous.
Ravenbomb 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2004 shit, that's only $7.50 per movie. They charge that much for shitty barebones DVD's
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2004 That is a good price for 8 movies. I am torn, do I just give in and buy this, or do I hold out hope that ONE DAY, they may finally release the unrated versions!?! I remember reading a long time ago, how much more gore and impact that death scenes had before they were cut down for an R rating...... I have parts 1-8(minus 7) on VHS.......so looks like I will get to make my gf's dad happy when I hand over all of the VHS copies to him when I buy this...... Placebo Effect 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2004 ::creams pants:: I've seriously been waiting for this since the creation of DVD. God damn, I absolutely love that cover, and the discs look badass. The lack of commentary for the original is pretty fucked up. My only guess is that since Cunningham (dir. of first) produced the past three Jason flicks, he has a deal with New Line that prohibits him from "working" for the competition. I have no idea why Miner wouldn't do a commentary at least for Part II. It's not like the guy has gone onto such better things since. If I remember correctly, he does TV directing, and did Halloween H20. I don't think the director of Part V has done ANYTHING since being on the receiving end of the fans' wrath in the 80s, so I can understand that they couldn't track him down. And none of the cast ever want onto do anything, aside from the black kid joining the cast of Family Matters. If I don't get to see the gore, big deal. I'm in love with this set now. Guest Staravenger Report post Posted June 30, 2004 (also creams pants) I have copies of the OLD VHS's and thank God I will own them all on DVD. I wonder if it's Widescreen or fullscreen...
eiker_ir 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2004 all of them are in the OAR, so, Widescreen. The cover art is nice but i would have liked that the covers for the movie discs used the original posters, like in the Nightmare Collection. Still i'll be getting this cuz i doubt we'll get anything better for a loooong time
dubq 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2004 Thank god they didn't include that horrible Jason Goes To Hell movie... OR Jason X... Christ those were horrible.
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2004 Jason X did have one good bit: -black guy gets stabbed through the wall "takes more than that to stop me!" -gets stabbed again "that'll do it" -dies how can you NOT love that kind of shit?
Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2004 Damn, my barebones dvds are worthless now. Well, these things happen.
Boner Kawanger 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2004 I have no idea why Miner wouldn't do a commentary at least for Part II. It's not like the guy has gone onto such better things since. If I remember correctly, he does TV directing, and did Halloween H20. He was supposedly difficult during the production of the Halloween II DVD. Maybe Paramount heard this and decided not to even attempt to deal with him. I'm a little worried about having two movies per disc. This could dip the quality on some of the discs. I'm glad Part VI is going to have a commentary, since it's one of my favorites. I'm really surprised this is coming out, though, since Paramount HATES the series. Guest Mindless_Aggression Report post Posted June 30, 2004 I thought the kills in Jason Goes To Hell were pretty fun in general. Jason X also had the hilarious "Freeze bitch's head and crush on counter" kill which cracked me up namely because of the brief pause Jason has before smashing her head all over creation. Good times. Guest El Satanico Report post Posted June 30, 2004 I'll be buying this the day it's released, but I'm still disappointed by this box set. They could've done so much better with it and could've at least faked respect for the fans of the series. Freddy got a 8 disc box set release, so there's no reason why this couldn't be 8 or 9 discs. They've treated the movies like shit, but at least there's some good extras.
Ravenbomb 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2004 best part of Jason X: Virtual Crystal Lake. The girls going overboard with the slasher clichés would've been enough, but when it cut to Jason beating them to gether in their sleeping bags...

Oh I know, I was more referring to it not being unheard of to do one movie per disc for a long series and that you can keep it decently priced.
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2004 I was just ready to appreciate Jason X for what it was...just another Jason movie, which I'm ok with. But... I as skimming the DVD with commentary...this writer shit was soooo damn proud of himself for what he'd done. He comes off like the movie isn't the most scary movie every, but it's also hysterical. I think it's absolutly retarded to have just about everyone run off a one-liner seconds before impending doom. 1) they didn't come off as funny. And 2) it can't come off as scary if they're cracking jokes about this guy who wants to kill them...when he's got his machette raised an inch from their heads! FUCK JASON X! eiker_ir 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2004 I'm a little worried about having two movies per disc. This could dip the quality on some of the discs. the Transfers on the box set are the same ones from the single movie discs already out, all of which had pretty good quality so i wouldn't worry about that. Oh, good. I have part 3 and part 4, and I loved the transfers. The thought about money did go over my head, but I am a little suprised they were kind enough to revisit it and put this much effort into it. This is Paramount, one of the worst studios for DVDs. Guest JumpinJackFlash Report post Posted July 1, 2004 Freddy is New Line, though... they seem to have a lot more respect for the Horror biz than Paramount ever did.. The reason they have so much respect for the Nightmare series is that New Line is "The house that Freddy built." Paramount didn't gain too much by making 8 Friday the 13th films. Besides, some of them didn't even take place on Friday the 13th. Why call it that when it might take place on a Tuesday? But this is still an awesome box set worth getting. Guest Big_Jay101 Report post Posted July 1, 2004 Jason X was actually much better written but it was rewrote to hell. Most people like Todd Farmer's original Script, even he said it was fucked with beyond repair. JGTH was not included because it along with JX and FvJ is New Line as mentioned. Guest Dynamite Kido Report post Posted July 1, 2004 Glad to finally hear some details on it, I am also dissappointed that this one wasn't a 8 or 9 disc set like it has been said in this thread. But I have been holding out on buying them all seperately to instead just wait for this set so I'll be buying it on the released day for sure.
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted July 7, 2004 According to the specs listed at www.dvdreview.com There is going to be a "cutting room floor" feature where they discuss a lot of scenes they had to cut. While I wish they would just restore them into the film for this DVD release, having the scenes on the DVD is the next best thing. I can't wait.
