Guest Markingout Report post Posted July 13, 2004 The reason behind the transfer of power in Toryumon to Dragon's Gate is mainly because Ultimo Dragon is planning to return to the WWE in November. The plan is for Dragon to return to WWE without his mask and wrestle under the name "Asai", his real last name. Credit: Liveaudiowrestling.com Yeah.... Wow, killing tradition of the mask, again. Quite sad, not because he is only getting unmasked, but because he is going to get unmasked, pushed for 2 weeks, and then forgotten.
Steviekick 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2004 Maybe he figures going maskless will at least make sure the WWE doesn't make a mockery of it.
Guest Staravenger Report post Posted July 13, 2004 NOOOOO!! I know to most people it doesn't matter, but he is NOT The best looking person to put on T.V. without a mask, especially when the only people WWE seriously push don't look like they had an accident on their face. This isn't even good news. He won't be U.D., and he won't even have his fucking mask. His gimmick is what he is, and WWE wants to strip him of it because they didn't create it. It's fucking pathetic. Why not just tell Rey Mysterio to change his name to Rey Hernandez or whatever hispanic last name they decide on and make him wrestle in a speedo.
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2004 well the good news is that if he is on Smackdown I won't have to bare witness to him being unmasked.

Guest Staravenger Report post Posted July 13, 2004 He refused to lose the mask late last year/early 2004, so I'm going by that information.
Guest 5.0Fanatic Report post Posted July 13, 2004 Anyone else see him as Kenzo's bodyguard?
Guest Nelly's Bandaid Report post Posted July 13, 2004 This sounds to me more like his idea than the WWE's, because I'd have to imagine given the choice of pushing a person as opposed to a established character they'd take the easy option.
razazteca 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2004 What's next will WWE sign Hijo de Santo just to unmask him?
Steviekick 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2004 Anyone else see him as Kenzo's bodyguard? That would make Kenzo more tolerable than he is now.
Scroby 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2004 Has he wrestled unmasked before or would this be his first time? I also wonder if he'll be smart and alter his style or keep it the same way?
Tawren 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2004 If it is WWE's idea: fuck them. If it is his idea: he's a retard. He won't get pushed any more than he was the first time around and all he is doing is tarnishing his legacy.
Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2004 ^^ Aiyeeeeeee it is a sad day for kayfabe. Anyway, I don't really believe this yet. Vince thought he was getting another Rey Mysterio with Ultimo, and was shocked to find he got another Jamie Noble. I suspect he'd rather be happy to clean his hands of the guy, than bring him back. EricMM 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2004 Neither is Chris Benoit, Jericho, HHH, The Rock... Whats your point?
AlaskanHero 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2004 I think he meant that Jamie Noble doesn't have the appeal (and depending on who you ask, talent) that Rey Mysterio does.
EricMM 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2004 And I nominate that he never got the push Mysterio did either. Lets be honest, Rey Rey get more than Noble ever got, and I wish Noble could get the opportunities Rey did. I'm sure he could get over if booked in the right position, same as Dragon. I mean, I imagine he's been over in Japan, right?
Tawren 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2004 I think the Jamie Noble comment means that he is more ground based, and most people don't expect that out of a cruiser - they expect Rey's wacky high flying.
Guest MikeSC Report post Posted July 13, 2004 He refused to lose the mask late last year/early 2004, so I'm going by that information. WWE, unlike WCW, actually seems interested in possibly making a bit of money selling masks. I can't imagine them asking him to unmask. Heck, they saw the wonders doing that did to Rey --- and when he worked maskless early in his career, Dragon didn't exactly LOOK like a wrestler. -=Mike
EricMM 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2004 So odd to me that the WWE wants its Heavyweights to cut out the flying and the Cruisers to cut out the groundwork. Wrestling isn't this cut and dry, people, is it?
razazteca 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2004 If Ultimo Dragon works maskless as Asai then he has to stop doing the kicks. Why was'nt Ultimo Dragon vs Rey Mysterio booked for Wrestlemania when he first showed up? It was the match up that everybody wanted but it never happened on WWE PPV. Masked Man of Mystery 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2004 I can't freakin' believe this. He's the ULTIMO DRAGON! Would ANYONE recognize him without his mask? Urgh this just absolutely sucks and I hope somebody regains their sanity and he keeps the mask on
Guest Soylent Green Is People Report post Posted July 13, 2004 What's even the point? It's not like the WWE will push him or use him in any meaningful way, it's just seemingly removing the mask for the sake of doing it, without any real reason.
Mecha Mummy 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2004 Just a minor pet peeve: Why is it that Japanese wrestlers almost NEVER have first names when wrestling in America? Except for Kenzo. I mean, Akio, Sakoda, Miyamoto, Minnamino, and now Asai. Jesus.
Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted July 13, 2004 imagine a possible storyline to this. Ultimo hints his return the WWE does a production over it, storyline wise it leaks back to Kenzo who wishes to destroy the legendary masked wrestler on WWE tv to prove his dominence. Along the way he fights some unknown unmasked wrestler from japan on Velocity and absolutely squashes him. This wrestler then swears allegeance to him. Kenzo agrees and this wrestler stands by Kenzo's side as they go from Smackdown to Smackdown. Each time the Ultimo promo plays and Kenzo demands a match with him at a PPV show.... Weeks go by This unnamed wrester working with Kenzo tries assisting in his matches but always seem to messup, moving either too slowly or too fast getting Kenzo to lose matches and pull DQ's. Kenzo berrates him and abuses him verbally in japanese...all the while unbeknowst to Kenzo the other Japanese wrestlers all bow to this wrestler and snickers at Kenzo behind his back... Finally a Smackdown promo shows Ultimo under the mask answering the challenge to Kenzo. The day comes, Kenzo tells his servant that he doesn't want him out at ringside because he is bad luck.... The match comes... and Kenzo comes out. Ultimo's music hits and out he comes in his mask. then..stops at the ramp....Pulls off his mask revealing himself as the man Kenzo been traveling with. Asai then Mops the Floor with Kenzo totally outclassing him in the ring. To Finally beating him.

King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2004 If it is his idea: he's a retard. Didn't everyone say that about Dinsmore? Look where he is now. I agree though that Asai's either stupid or too deluded by his dreams to realise this won't work. But hey, you never know. By November, things might have changed enough for Asai to fit in. Plus, he won't be the ugliest man in the company anyway. Luther Reigns has already got that honor.
