Yeah. I watched the whole thing on TV today. I think more shit is going to hit the fan before this is resolved.

Only things like this happen in Jersey. Why can't I live in a boring and unnewsworthy state?

It was an extramarital affair, there was a lawsuit coming out of that affair, and a shitload of scandals that he was facing as well.

Besides, having worked in Atlantic City, the man's name was used as a profanity by A LOT of people --- most of them not conservatives.

His career was in pretty bad shape.

MCGreevey is resigning this way to save his political career in the future.

He is a student of Bill Clinton, who was advised by Dick Morris during the 1992 campaign to ignore the draft dodger question, and focus all his energies on talking about the sex (then it was only Gennifer flowers) accusations - that way, more people think "Oh, Clinton had an affair, who cares it was his personal life" - and they forget the charges that are more serious.

In 5 years, Frank Lautenberg's senate seat is up for grabs, I doubt at his age that he'll run again. McGreevey can run for the seat, and everyone will remember him as that brave man admitting his wrongdoing in front of the world and apologizing for it. If he stays in office through this term, he'll keep getting hammered on these corruption things. McGreevey is from Middlesex County, NJ, same county I'm from, and believe me the Democrats in Middlesex county are as corrupt as any group of politicians I have ever seen. All it will take is for one person on a town council somewhere to screw up and get caught and the whole thing could come crashing down. If he does this now, no one will be interested in looking at McGreevey because he's not in power.

That being said, I had also heard rumors he was gay. I know some people who know some State Troopers that had seen some, shall we say, suspect behavior.

For all we know, maybe she knew and just enjoys the money.

Fuck, if I was a closeted gay politician, I know I'd have my own trophy wife.

Well, McGreevey was divorced once already - I would assume that his sexuality may have had something to do with that break-up as well.... No proof, obviously, but who knows.

Part of the problem is that he appointed the person he was having an affair with to an office in his administration.

Part? IMO, that's the MAJOR problem.

If it was just him coming out of the closet, he could have skated by on this.

The fact that he hired his boyfriend as part of his administration is what's doing him in. It doesn't matter what your sexuality is, when you use the taxpayer's money to give your side piece of tail a job, you're inevitably going to get caught - and then you're screwed.

I know, I was just being subtle.

The problem is that he is a son of a bitch, he has kids and he cheated on not only his wife, but his family, even lying to them about who he was. Politically, the issue is the pending lawsuit and the appointment, but anyone who does such a thing is on a whole other level of asshole than even someone who cheats on his wife with another woman, he cheats, yes, but he doesn't put up a charade in order to keep his public persona "pristine".

Makes you wonder if the only reason he married a woman and had kids with her was to get into public office.

And if that is the case, he is a sick fuck.

So you think she knew about all this, Spiff? Being gay, I mean, not necessarily the affair.

Personally, I hadn't heard any rumours about his orientation, but then again, I haven't really been following his administration.

I find it a little offensive that he claims he is resigning due to an affair to try and paint himself as a martyr to a "homophobic" electorate --- rather than the more accurate "I kept my sperm receptacle on the state payroll" reason.

I had a crazy idea before I went to bed last night. Pull out a sheet of tinfoil and form a hat, folks.

What if this is all a stunt to get rid of him? I mean, it sounds like the Governor wasn't really popular, and we saw what happened in California when the Governor isn't really popular.I can see it now: "Perhaps what we need is a way to get him out while allowing someone from the same party to step up and replace him and, I know! Rumors are about that he's gay, right?"

... You can see where it goes from here.

Ok, Golan Cipel claims he was the victim of sexual harassment. Just announced by Cipel’s lawyer, in a news conference, minutes ago.

Hell hath no fury like a man scorned .

Well here we go, the Democrats and the media deflecting things away from the real issues again. Namely corruption. Harming America’s security by giving a 110,000 dollar per year job, in the war against terror, to someone completely unqualified.

Sounds like a compromise has been struck between the media, the liberals, and the gay lobby. Lets make it a lovers quarrel.

Even better is that even though McGreevey ADMITTED that this is has severely compromised his ability to actually DO HIS JOB --- he'll stick it out until 11/15, when a special election for governor won't be necessary.

He's quite a guy.

..."Hmm, your qualifications for this position are...uh...you can do WHAT with your tongue to my balls?"

Just out of curiosity, how do you know his boyfriend wasn't qualified? I find it hard to believe that he's not at least, say, as qualified as Ashcroft is to be AG.

I think the bigger problem is what if there were more qualified people who didn't get the job because Golan was in his afffair with the Gov. I don't doubt he might have some qualifications (It'd be pretty hard to spin it past everyone if he had no skills to speak of), but better people may have been passed up because of their relationship.
