Bands you miss

Same goes for Shannon Hoon

Were you guys aware that Shannon Hoon was Axl's boy from his hometown in Indiana and that Axl got Blind Melon their big break? Hoon also co-sang "Don't Cry".

Yeah, I knew that. One thing I didn't like about Don't Cry is that his singing was so low on that track.

I wish Cream woulda stayed together longer...I guess. But then we wouldn't have gotten Derek and the Dominos.

I wouldn't have midned seeing the Band in their ancient greatness. They were quite marvelous.

I actually got the link off StabbingWestward.com, which is still updated every so often with what the guys are doing now. Hall's new band kicks ass, their website has a link to their myspace profile, and there are 4 songs you can listen to. They're selling the EP for $5 as well, so I'm gonna pick that up ASAP.

I haven't really been alive long enough to name many picks... but I'll choose a few anyway, and then a few that I feel like I miss even though I wasn't necessarily around during their peak...

Pavement

The Ramones

The Jesus and Mary Chain

Joe Strummer

Rage Against the Machine

Tool (in album releasing form)

The Spice Girls

Faith No More

Weezer (the old Weezer, I mean)

Echo and the Bunnymen

(good) REM

Talking Heads

Thank you 5 moves of doom for mentioning Rage Against the Machine. I was shocked and disappointed that a two page thead on this topic had no mention of them on the first page. Rage was the best band to come out of the 90s. If I could choose between seeing the Beatles live or Rage live, I would choose Rage, and I like the Beatles more than I like colby cheese, and I LOVE colby cheese.

Government Issue

Phish (well, it's still too recent for me to 'miss' them but it won't be long until I miss seeing them live)

Black Flag

Flipper

Even though it's cool to hate Nirvana and Sublime these days, I'm curious to know what kind of stuff they'd be putting out right now.

I think "You Know You're Right" was a nice indiction of where Nirvana was going to go. A little more rock based then punk based.

Considering You Know Your Right was about 25% completed upon its release, I don't think it was an accaurate portrayal of where the band was going. Hell, the song probably would've stayed as a demo.

Ever hear the live version?

No. But bands often test out songs live to see how they sound, it doesn't necessarily mean that is how they would've wanted it to sound recorded.

It's still an interesting indication of their possible direction. And I liked it better then most of In Utero.

I just found that song very annoying, especially his vocals, and really, would it really matter if Kurt didn't die, I mean most likely the band would have faded away, and he probably would have died of an overdose.

Far and away I miss Alice and Chains. I would even settle for new material from Jerry Cantrell. I enjoyed Degredation Trip a lot.

I also miss Candlebox. I have the cd with You and Far Behind, and the whole thing is great.

I forgot about Stabbing Westward! "Haunting Me" is my favorite song from them. Wish they were still around.
