Match-wise: Bret / Nash, Entertainment-wise: Shawn / Sid

 

I'm stuck on Team Piper Vs. Team Flair and the Wildcard Match

 

The Hulkamaniacs (1989 version with Hulk Hogan, Demolition, and Jake Roberts) or Team Piper (Roddy Piper, Bret Hart, The British Bulldog, and Virgil)

 

Either The Perfect Team Vs. Flair / Ramon or Undertaker / Mankind from SSeries 96

 

The Lesnar / Goldberg Confrontation, it literally sent goosebumps down my spine.

 

The Perfect Team Vs. Flair / Ramon finish, Hart / Backlund (Sorry I just could not get into the match and after 35 minutes, Bob goes over), Shawn winning the Elimination Chamber.

This is a tough one since I mark out for most of them but I think special praise needs to go the women's elimination match in 1987. Great work by just about everyone involved.

The Visionaries --- The Model Rick Martel, The Warlord, and Power & Glory

Perfect Team vs. Flair/Ramon . . . Great chaotic brawl

 

5.) Favorite segment?

 

Obviously the hatching of the Gobblygooker.

 

6.) Things you hated besides the Montreal Screwjob?

 

While 1992 had a good card, they absolutely raped tradition by having only one elimination match which consisted of 2 tag teams vs. 2 tag teams and once one man was eliminated, his regular partner was gone as well. Crapola!

The 4 doinks vs Headshrinkers, Bastion Booger & Bam Bam Bigelow. Almost a squash, really dumb elimanations.

1.) Favorite world title match at the PPV?

Bret/Diesel is the winner here. It was the best match, plus it finally got the title off of Nash.

 

2.) Favorite SSeries team elimination match?

Team Demolition vs. Team Powers of Pain from 1988. This was a highlight of the top teams of the era. Demolition, The Brainbusters, The Bulldogs, The Hart Foundation, The Rockers and the Rougeaus. Only Strike Force is missing, due to Martel's injury. And among all of these guys, the Conquistadors last until the end after the big Demolition face turn.

 

 

3.) Favorite face / heel (or both) SSeries team assembled?

Face - Randy Savage, Jake Roberts, Ricky Steamboat, Brutus Beefcake & Jim Duggan from 1987. This is like an All-Stars team of the top faces in 1987.

Heel - The Teamsters. Shawn Michaels, Diesel, Jeff Jarrett, Owen Hart & Jim Neidhart. Jeff Jarrett was my favourite wrestler in 1994, and with him you get the current tag champs and the current main rival of the WWF Champion and his lacky. Owen Hart main evented Summerslam that year, with Neidhart as his support. Michaels/Diesel were about to embark on a WWF Title feud. Jarrett was on the verge of winning his first IC Title. Unfortunately, they lost to a joke of a team (aside from Bulldog & Razor).

 

 

4.) Favorite non-world title, non-team battle match other than Austin / Hart?

Easy. The WWE Tag Title Match from 2002.

 

 

5.) Favorite segment?

I hardly remember anything besides the matches. About the only thing to come to my mind is Virgil in 1992 warning Bret after getting squashed by Yoko.

 

 

6.) Things you hated besides the Montreal Screwjob?

The entire team of the Teamsters jobbing to Razor 5 on 1 in a lame CO.

The end to the Team Yoko/Team Vader match in 1996.

Shawn winning the Elimination Chamber.

Randy Savage not replacing Sid in 1991.

Austin getting run over by a car after people had already paid to see him in the main event.

Shawn replacing Lawler in 1993.

Since I just watched the show last week, I'll go with Razor / 123 Kid / Marty / Savage vs Martel / Adam Bomb / IRS / Diesel from 1993. I'm sure there are better matches, but I was jsut really getting into that match.

THe Foreign Fanatics and the All Americans from the 1993 show, just for the childhood memories

Those matches with the tag teams they did at the first 2 shows that everyone seems to love. They have very little flow, and are generally just very very long.

Long list here: Santana getting pinned by Martel in '89, the finish to Vipers-Visionaries in '90, the finish to Flair's team-Piper's team in '91, the fact that they scrapped the elimination matches in '92, Doink's team getting squashed in '94 (hey, I liked the midgets), the finish to Yokozuna's team-Vader's team in '96, Chyna beating Jericho in '99, HHH getting dropped to his apparent death in '00, Misterio/Edge-Angle/Benoit-Guerreros not getting the time it deserved in '02, almost the entire '03 show.

A: Bret Hart vs. Diesel (1995) - Diesel's best match ever that wasn't with his boyfriend...I mean best friend.

A: 1992, 1998, and 2002 having zero "traditional" elimination matches, 1997 pretty much in general, the "Myster Opponent" from 1998, and the 1996 Team Savio vs. Team Faarooq finish all stand out.

Favourite Segment: The build up to the Flair/Razor v Perfect/Savage match, shown throughout the card, is great. Flair and Razors promo is one of the all time great WWF interview segments.

I can barely think of any, so I'll just say the first two that come to mind. Firstly, the pre-match interview for the Wild Card match in 1995, where Cornette and DiBiase are arguing, and HBK comes in and shuts everyone up, "Ladies, ladies..."

 

Secondly, the finish to the tournament in 1998, with Rock celebrating with the McMahons, Mankind trying to comprehend what happened, and Austin running in.

Everyone except Flair being DQ'd in 1991. Lame ending to a GREAT match.

Pretty much everything that's been said. Especially Team Yoko vs. Team Vader in '96.

Sid vs Shawn Michaels from 1997 - an absolutely superhuman effort by Shawn Michaels.

My favorite was Austin's Team vs Bischoff's team from last year. Once again, HBK stole the show in this match, and nearly did the impossible.

 

3.) Favorite face / heel (or both) SSeries team assembled?

 

I've always been partial to the larger wrestlers, so my favorite team is easily Brock's team from last year. I know it had that 7 foot tall walking pile of suck Nathan Jones, but that team was imposing as hell. Plus I think it helped but over the smaller guys on the face team when the giants were beaten by them.

 

4.) Favorite non-world title, non-team battle match other than Austin / Hart?

 

Ah damn, this was my favorite. I'll go with the 3-way Smackdown Tag Title match from 2002.

 

My next favorite was Brock vs Big Show. I hated it because Brock's run with the belt was killed off so quickly, but seeing him Overhead Belly-to-Belly the BigShow, then German Suplex him, then finally F-5 him like he was a sack of crap was at the time, the most impressive display of power I had ever seen in WWE.

I'll probably get crucified for this, but the Gooker debut is my favorite.

Brock's first World Title run was killed off so quickly with the loss to the Big Show.

I agree with whomever talked about the Big Show vs. Brock match. Heyman's turn was utterly POINTLESS.

LOD/Boss Man vs. Disastors/IRS was NOT the Main Event. The Main Event is the match that the entire show is based around, and the match that is expected to draw in ratings, buys, and ticket sales. The match in question would be the Gravest Challenge: Hulk Hogan vs. The Undertaker for the World Title.

I'll go with the 1998 SS as a whole. If only for the first viewing, as subsequent viewings took a great deal of shine off, it was compelling storytelling.

Shawn Michaels apologising to Austin for losing the match and costing Austin his career. Also, Shawn and Vince both juicing like crazy that night.

 

6.) Things you hated besides the Montreal Screwjob?

 

First and foremost, the utter, total, and complete stupidity of Brock losing to Big Show in 2002.

The lazy ass booking to Team Flair v Team Piper in 1991.
